Holding the lead for most of the first half, the Lakers looked poised to take control of the game in the second. Instead, the pace of the game changed and they couldn't keep up. A 29-6 Grizzlies run was part of their 44-22 quarter. The Lakers were too stunned, apparently, to play much defense during the period.
The Lakers actually played fairly well the rest of the game outsocred Memphis 96-82. And they got a few good performances.
Kobe Bryant socred 25 with 6 assists, 2 blocks, 3 steals, 11 hv 1.21 prod, 28 eff.
Maurice Evans had a good showing off the bench with 21 points on 6-7 shooting, 1.09 prod, and 21 eff.
And Sasha Vujacic continued his hot shooting making 4-6, all 3-pointers, for 18 points in 23 minutes.

Also worth noting:
In the 3rd, the Lakers shot 38% to 72% for Memphis
The rest of the game, Lakers shot 45% to Memphis' 40%
Lakers hit an amazing 31-34 FTs for the game (91%)
30 3-point attempts by the Lakers (way too many)

Pop.
Thanks again for turning out the gameflow so quickly. Its real insight when you don't have NBALP. Lakes had no FTAs in 3rd quarter! Did we just stop going to the basket?
I was struck by FTA differential. I took a quick look and saw that it was the highest FTA diff of the 15 road games this season at -15. The average road game FTA diff is -3 (oppo take 3 more FTA than lakers on avg). It was even higher than the Heat game which was only -9.
I took a look at a shot chart and the Grizzlies only attempted 6 more layups than the lakers. They seem to be getting bailed out a lot by the refs. Or maybe Cook and Drew just can't cover the paint like Kwame.
BTW, do you know if there is a place to download box score stats for the season? I wanted to look at FTA differentials in more detail, but don't know an easy way to crunch the data. Thanks. |

I see that the Grizz had 39 fastbreak points to lakers 10. That probably explains the 3rd period a bit. |

Yes. Memphis was running up and down the court and the Lakers just looked kind of stunned.
And the zero FTs in the 3rd was mostly due to them trying to get back on 3-pointers alone, and not attacking the basket. They 4-11 in that period from beyond the arc. |
