this can't be a coinsidence.
you know where i'm going with this...
too bad. |
Wasn't it known from the beginning that the Pistons would move one of those guys (or Dale Davis) in case they got Webber? Why is them preparing to do what everyone thought they'd have to do mean it's over? |

If he is going to Detroit, it is bittersweet. Would have loved to see him here, but if he can prevent D-Whistle from going to the Finals again cool 8)
He should have come here though |

Chris Webber is headed to Motown.
Quote: | Chris Webber told ESPN.com that he has chosen to sign with the Detroit Pistons and is flying home Monday to spend Martin Luther King Day with family members.
He can officially sign with the Pistons on Tuesday after clearing waivers.
Webber has been at the center of speculation since being waived by the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday, with the Lakers, Pistons, Heat, and Mavericks listed among the top candidates for Webber's new home.
The Pistons are 21-14 and in second place in the Central Division. |

hehe, someone should familiarize your ex with the concept of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Like a waiter who thinks you won't tip well because you're under 30, so he gives you shoddy service and then doesn't get tipped well. Then he goes to all his buddies. "See?" Nobody has the balls to tell him that the reason he got gypped is because he screwed up the order and let their drink glasses sit empty for 15 minutes, not because the customers were lousy tippers.
Anyway, I'm not sure that applies here since nothing that we can say here is likely to have any effect on the proceedings. But I see what you're saying. _________________ Game recognize game, Granddad. - Riley Freeman, The Boondocks |

His attitude should be one where he's wanting to come in to the team and contribute "regardless of how many minutes he's getting". He's looking out for #1, and he's looking rather selfish to me at this point. Honestly, I don't want that kind of attitude on the Laker team. If he signs with Detroit, it wouldn't upset me in the least. |
I am not really understanding the resentment here. Webber is looking out for himself, so he is selfish? If I take a higher-paying job because it benefits me more, does that make me selfish? Why would he come to a situation where he is sitting the bench and not contributing? This a pro-athlete, and what athletes want to do is play. There aren't many I can think of who would rather sit the bench and not get any minutes.
I think this is good for Chris. Go where his skills will be best appreciated, where he can actually contribute. Why go to the Lakers just because we fans think it is best and will be mad at him if he doesn't? He should come here for other reasons.
But there is no reason to be so mad and emotional about this whole thing. |
For the record, I am not mad or resentfull about this. I appologize if the tone of my comments led you to believe this.
However, just as PJ himself said, if a player can contribute to the team, then that is all he (the player) can really want. Read Phil's comments carefully. He's trying to say that the amount of the minutes really shouldn't matter. It is the "quality" of the minutes that really matters. At least, that is my interpretation of it. |
Fine, once he is with the team, he should be worried about how to best help the team. But when he hasn't signed with anyone yet, he needs to look out for himself.
As far as I have heard, VladRad has not complained about anything at all, even though he did sign as a free agent, and that is the model others should follow.

I hear ya encina. But I promise you, I'm not resentful toward Webber at all. If I had to sum up my emotions at this point, I'd say I'm more puzzled than anything else. Clearly, LA is the better choice for Webber. I may be biased, but I really don't see Detroit as the right place for him. _________________ If you meet the Buddha in the lane, feed him the ball. ~Phil Jackson |

I was saying that what the Pistons were doing in negotiating a trade to move a guy that it was known they would have to move was not indicative that a deal was done. I thought that was pretty clear. _________________ Game recognize game, Granddad. - Riley Freeman, The Boondocks |

He was going to sign with Detroit from the beginning, there never was a "choice". Aaron Goodwin and C-Webb just wanted to feel like they were wanted like freakin drama queens.
Goodwin pulled the same BS with Antonio Daniels and Derek Anderson. |

If he really sucks with Detroit, will we want him? If he really sucks with Detroit, will we even offer the MLE?
I'd rather save that money for someone else. Who else will be a free agent? I know it is probably impossible to do so, but perhaps Billups? _________________ Courage doesn't always roar.
