|
|
Quote: | Meanwhile, the Staples Center's other occupants attempted to lift Jason Kidd several weeks ago, perhaps a month, according to sources on both coasts.
Presuming the Nets might want to distance themselves from their leader's marriage crisis, as well as unload Kidd's $40 million guaranteed over the next two seasons, the Lakers submitted a bunch of disposable players/expiring contracts - Chris Mihm, Aaron McKie, etc. The only L.A. player of consequence mentioned was rookie guard Jordan Farmar.
They figured wrong. That doesn't mean the Lakers have stopped trying to find a Kobe Bryant-compatible workaholic to lighten his everyday burden, the return to active duty of Lamar Odom and Kwame Brown, aside. Management's greatest concern is that the team's over reliance on Bryant ultimately will extinguish his flame seasons ahead of time.

I read that article this morning as well. I don't think we're going to trade JF anytime soon. |

However, Rob Thorn will do what's best for the club, and if that means dealing Kidd, he will do it,... hence why he's 'fielding' offers... |

The Lakers have always had an interest in Kidd. They hoped to pick him up on the cheap, in that the Kidd divorce promises to be an ugly public affair. I'm sure Kidd wouldn't mind, as it would put 3,000 miles between him and the soon-to-be-ex. |

He also knows what Kidd's value is... Kidd will not be cheap if he is moved. And he knows VC is scheduled to make 16.3 million next season, and is figuring nobody going to pay him that so VC will not opt out. |

That's a pretty standard response to trade rumors. |

He won't get the kids. The courts rarely ever grant the husband sole custody. Sadly, many of the child custody battles are actually a fight for money. I can't say this is the case, but it happens. |

Didn't Kidd also want to change things in Dallas 360 degrees? _________________ Courage doesn't always roar.

Not really a "pipe dream" if Laker managment actively pursued the trade.

Exactly. KG, Shaq and even Ron Artest were heard saying the thing. KG is the only one that hasn't turned the corner yet. |

It wouldn't just be Farmar. To make salaries work it would be Kwame + (ending contracts) + Farmar.
You'd do that? |

You'd think they would have mentioned Kwame as part of the expendable peices, because they can't get it done financially without him. Also, with Orlando improving and Charlotte's young talent, he has two teams that get him closer to home and his kids. Either can offer him the max, and opting out gets him one more year in his prime and the only real loss would be in the first year of the deal. Wouldn't he get about 12 mill? 4 mill is a small price to pay for a long term deal while he's "young" and healthy. With him leaving more realistic, they better deal Kidd for some youth while they can. Even if they win that division, they aren't a contender. |

I was thinking the same thing.
Mihm 4.2mil
Mckie-2.5mil
Shamu-1.75mil
Farmar -939,000
You still need about 7 million more salaries to make the trade work.
Vlad and Cook or Kwame's contract? Weird. |
