I am against any trade scenario that leaves Kwame as our starting center. The guy is just too unreliable, we can't depend on him to play anything close to 80 games a season.

OK, but you'd still have Mihm when he comes back as well as Gasol himself. If you had to, you could trade Lamar instead of Bynum to get Gasol. Either way, getting a true post player who can help us now is what this team needs to make the jump from 2nd tier to first.

I'm convinced. Do it Mitch.

I'm serious too. I don't want to become the Celtics or Bulls or Blazers that worry too much about the future and not about their current team. Bynum may become something real special, but so would those 3 players in our lineup. If we are going to take advantage of Kobe Bryant in his final year of dominant playing, we must deal Bynum now.

But perhaps we could just get KG or Jermaine O'Neil if we were trading Bynum. Who would be the best fit with Kobe and Lamar?

the lakers won't trade bynum for gasol - it doesn't matter what the fans think - it's not a consideration

Then they should just trade Kobe for young talent and build around Bynum.

I am just being sarcastic of course, but I have a feeling that the Lakers, without a trade to bring in a true second option, will not be winning a title for the rest of the time that Kobe is here. Seems like a great way to let the best players talent go to waste.

Like you said though, it doesn't matter what we think, I will just have to continue watching and hoping.

I disagree.

Right now, the Lakers have a clear #1 scoring option and two #3 scorng options (Lamar and Walton). Only one (Lamar) has decent low-post scoring capabilities and none of the three are shot blockers.

If the Lakers were to acquire Gasol in exchane for Odom, then you would have:

One clear #1 scoring option (Kobe);
One clear #2 scoring option (Gasol); and,
Three clear #3 scoring options (Walton, or Vlad, or Bynum)

Making things better is that Gasol would give the team the benefit of a low-post scorer with the added ability to play the mid-range game. And regardless of whether or not you consider him to be a good defender or not, he's a legitimate shot-blocker who undoubtedly alters other shots as well.

I think that we'd be a much better team.

BTW, when was the last time you saw Lamar "take over" a game? November?

But then who would shoot 3s and turn the ball over?

Bynum (young talented player), Mihm, McKie, and Shamond (all expiring K) plus a future #1 would get it Gasol IMO.

Next move Kwame and Smush (or Cook) and maybe bobcats 2nd rounder for Andre Miller and we are set.

Miller/Farmar
Kobe/Sasha (Kobe plays 40+ min/gm anyway)
Luke/Evans
Odom/Radman/Cook
Gasol/Turiaf

We can't stop phoenix so we might as well mke sure they can't stop us by having a consistent threat at every spot. This team matches up well with the elite 3 in the West. If we could pry Lawrence Roberts or Hakim Warrick from Memphis as well it would increase our team toughness, but this team is DYNAMITE offensively.
