I don't think I will be able to cover them tonight. Please post your own...do the whole team or one player. Should be a good game.
Go Lakers! |

Is there a live stream of the game tonight? _________________ "To me he is the best player in the world right now. That guy doesn't know fear at all. He doesn't care. He would have won it for the Americans single-handedly." Dirk Nowitzki |

The Lakers really blew it in the last 5 minutes.
The good:
Decent, but unspectacular game from Kobe. I expected him to be more aggressive in the 4th. Seemed to be looking for calls, but got none.
LO had a very good game with a 3x2, but his errant pass late in the 4th coming out of a timeout was a real groaner.
Ronny brought the energy and intensity. He should've closed the game instead of Bynum.
Luke was quietly efficient.
JoFar did some good things on D. After Smushie was getting torched in the 3rd by AI, JoFar played him pretty tough. His vertical leaping ability bothered AI, I thought.
The bad:
Kwame re-injured. Ouch!
Smushie kept getting beat off the dribble by AI. He was twice given the ball to make a play in the corner. Instead of swinging the ball back around, Smushie took matters into his own hands and came up drier than dry.
Bynum  - just part of learning the game. Gave up a huge Camby O-board, leading to Melo's rebound dunk, then doinked 2 FTs with the game on the line.
There was some good playoff intensity at the beginning of the 4th, but then the Lakers went totally flat. |

Lakers finally played some defense, and went on a 20-8 run in the 3rd and had a 6-point lead.
That's when they should have taken control of the game.
But instead of keeping it going, they fould themselves down by 4 early in the 4th after the Nuggets 12-2 run.
They never got into rythm on offense or defense again.

Kobe - - Unbelievable most of the game. But why, oh why, would he pass to Smush or to Cook to shoot a game-tying three pointer?! inexcusable.
Lamar - - Finally! Lamar always gets his 18-11-9 games. Finally he gets a triple-double. If Lamar plays like this for the rest of this season and the Lakers can get others to step up to be the third and fourth scorers, the Lakers will be trouble.
Walton - 8) - Once again Walton is the coolest player on the court. He seemed to barely exert himself on the offensive end, but finished with 14 points and 5 rebounds. While Kobe might be the tire and Lamar is the spokes, Luke is definitely that little piece on the bike where the air pump goes.
Kwame - : - Another injury? Why?!? Why?! Before getting his leg landed on, Kwame had not played a very effective game. 6 points-3 rebounds-2 assists-3 terrible turnovers. He did have a 20-foot jumper taken away because of a shot-clock violation
Smush - - Worst player on the court tonight. While AI owns most opposing point guards, he OWNED Smush for a stretch in the third quarter. Phil benched Smush about 6 minutes into that quarter and didn't bring him back until about 4 minutes left in the game. Fans that sat around me kept yelling every time Smush got the ball, "Pass it! Get rid of it! Go get the ball, Kobe!" |

I agree with both of those. Our execution down the stretch had no purpose...none. Killed us. No purpose and intent to what we were doing during the key stretch. Not having Kwame probably also hurt quite a bit too on the defensive end since he has been making some big plays late in the games, too.
Regarding Farmar, it was absolutely his vertical that was bothering AI. This was Farmar's D at its best, denying penetration and/or recovering to his man to contest. AI thought he had a rook in his sights on that first possession and was caught off guard on his jumper when challenged. I think Farmar had two or three more of those. This, after AI was having his way with Smush. Excellent job by Farmar and Phil gave him a long stretch of burn. |

It was scary that when Smush got the ball in the corner that he was going to waste that possession.
Can anybody have any explanation on why Smush was going for steals when he was guarding AI - one of the quickest (if not the quickest) guard in the NBA?!?!? Could it be that he knew that he couldn't stay in front of him for any amount of time so he might as well try. Of course, this puts undue pressure on the bigs to cover his man. He then didn't try to follow AI (he just gave up) and/or didn't rotate to cover somebody else's man.
Conclusion: Can really place a lot of "hate" on Smush since he is really just a backup guard where cicumstances provided him the opportunity (?!?!) to start opposite Kobe Bryant.
Does anybody if Cookie played in the game (just joking?!?!) |

Sasha - Forced Melo to foul him since he was so unstoppable and was 100% from the field for 2 points and dished out one assist. |

Smush found out the hard way the last time we played denver in denver. that no matter what he does AI will have his way. He stays in front AI leans into him. Foul on smush. he reaches, misses, layup line AI.
farmar is a smaller therefore, quicker guy. so i guess the refs believe he can stay in front of AI more so then a 6'4 smush. but what i did notice is that all the good things farmar did on AI. it really didn't work. because of these rules. he got called for a bogus one or two. and AI threw lob, and got to the basket for a layup on another play or two. really wasn't much difference. it looked different but it didn't change anything defensively. what changed is when the other 4 guys paid attention to their men and AI and helped, then someone helped the helper. Your not going to guard AI with your pg. it takes a team to pull it off. but that means that everyone has to help everyone. NOT necessarily scramble. but hedge/show, then go back to your guy. play the passing lane when your guy doesn't have the ball. no reason to be all up in JR smith without the basketball. MELO thats different. deny him the ball at all times. deny AI the ball when he doesn't have it. But you know the kick out pass is coming.
we did force them into trouble when they dribble drove in certain points in the game. but we allowed them to throw miracle passes all the way back out to the 3 point line for wide open shots. because the entire team was guarding the 1 guy penetrating. at what point does someone say, "I GOT HIM, DONT HELP"?
thats the problem with this team as a whole. Realize and recognize we can't guard any PG's in this league. period. stop acting like we can. we can't. so adjust. we can complain about smush, farmar, sham or sasha, or everyone. it will not matter. bottom line is we can't guard anyone at the PG spot. So adjust to this. you clog the lane. but dont clog the lane with your eyes closed. pay attention to where the open men are. know that when you force a man baseline and you dont allow him to reverse it. he will have 2 passes. 1 to the corner he's heading toward, and a wrap pass back to the top of the key or 3 point line above the top of the key. its almost like are guys dont get this. you've been playing ball since you had a bib on. and you're telling me you dont know this simple routine?
this is why LO was stealing passes vs the Kings the other night. because he finally paid attention to where the passer had to pass the ball. we will mess around and play good de for 20 seconds, and then have a complete mental lapse. and it turns into a wide open layup, lob, or 3. thats a waste of energy. and this is when you see the offense fall to pieces. the more bonehead non thinking man mistakes we make on de, the more we suck on offense. |

Don't know. Didn't notice he was missing last night.
I'll check it out when I get a chance tonight. |
