So I bought a 26-inch LCD Samsung...

What do I need to do next?

I have Time Warner Cable, an XBOX 360, and a VCR

I will buy the TW Cable HD package... what else do I need?

You need a component cable for your XBOX 360. Does your TV have a built-in HD tuner? If yes, then you can use an antenna to watch off the air channels for free. But I still recommend getting the Time Warner Cable HD package. I think it's only $5 extra. Their package includes most HD local channels, but not all, for example, no channel 5 (CW), but you can get it off the air. Time Warner Cable HD package also includes ESPN HD, ESPN2 HD, TNT HD, HDNet, HDNet Movies, InHD, Universal HD, MTV HD and a bunch of other channels that I can't remember right now, but it's totally worth it.

Basic Setup
Xbox 360 = Component Cables
Over the air HD Channels

Alittle more of an investment

Xbox360 = Component Cables, Dolby Digital Audio & HD DVD Add on

The 5 dollars more really is worth though, the Hd channels are crazy. Turn on th discovery channel HD, and u wil be blown away. Also if you have a home theater setup already, all u need it the optical cable and bam u got Surround Sound, the xbox360 component cable has a small port on it for an optical cable (runs from 15 too 35 dollars). The HD DVD add on is about 200, cheapest way into the HD movies field, but their other things too consider when doing that. You can find it for like 150 though on the internet if u look around.

Also remember too flip that little switch on the Component Cable from TV too HD TV , and the dashboard.

That will help you pick an antenna so you can get OTA HD.

I think your Sammy has 2 RF inputs, 1 for OTA and the other for cable if needed.

However, since it only has 1 tuner, I think that when you switch inputs it has to rescan the channels.

You might consider getting a dvr recorder to use as a second tuner.

Never mind, just saw you have a cable box to switch channels, all you need is the OTA antenna hooked up to the RF antenna input.

Is an HDMI cable worth $100 more than the AV cables that Time Warner provides? Remember, I only have a 26-inch.

Damn (bleep) is expensive i know.

Costoco = Every imagineable HD cable, for $100 Bucks, great deal.
Sam's Club = HDMI cable for $24 Dollars or Component Cables for $13 dollars. This is assuming u have a membership or someone with a membership too go and get these things.

You won't notice a difference visually, but you might for the sound. Depends on the quality of your tv's speakers is good enough to hear the difference.

I noticed a major difference in sound with my HDMI cable. I noticed no difference when I switched from component to an HDMI cable I bought for $80 at Best Buy. I took that back and bought Costco's cable package that included two HDMI cables and noticed a major difference in picture quality. That package at Costco, as mentioned above, is $100, but it includes every cable you need for all devices.

Get the HDMI cable if you have an HDTV. Also invest in a home theater system so you can get surround sound and also because TV speakers suck.

I jus picked one up a a couple weeks ago, it crazy. Batman Begins, Matrix Trilogy (May 22,nd), Harry Potter was a great transfer too , u have too import it though, but its on sale on amazon uk, so same price with shipping. LOTR's set is supposedly due out at the holidays ,so is the harry potters set. Star
Wars is going too be released eventually too, not sure when. But ya the movies selection isnt the greatest right now, especially if you only buy really good movies.

Warner Bros. Coupons - 30% combined, apply it in this order

10% off: USD
20% off: WBNews

http://whv.warnerbros.com/WHVPORTAL/Portal/browsesearchtitles.jsp?functionmode=11&formatType=Hd-dvd

When u go over 60 bucks too its free shipping, applies too pre orders too, so i picked up the matrix set

Warner Bros online store has 30% coupon off purchses, no guarantee it works i ordered like a week and a half ago.

I saw that the other day... I need to take my $69 cable back. But I wonder if there is a huge difference between the $19 cable and the $119 Monster cable.

Depends on you, its like can u tell the difference between 1080i and 1080 p, some rave about the difference, some couldnt care less. Its all opinions I guess, maybe check around, like amazon. See some reviews on the cheaper cables and some on the monster cables.

I bought the 24 gauge hdmi cable from monoprice for $18 to use with my plasma and I'm very happy with it. I'm sure the 28 gauge cable that's only about $5 is probably perfectly fine as well.

Monster is way overpriced and is an incentive based sales push by sales reps from the chains like Best Buy and Circ City (kind of like what extended warranties are).

I'm not saying that some cables may or may not make a difference. I do think analog interconnects, power cables, and speaker cables may, at times, have a significant affect on sound quality, but I think, for the most part digital cables, as long as they are not defective, will be pretty similar.

Yea Ciruit City and Best Buy push "big brand" on you because they make more money. Ask one of them too compare, "sony" !! get "sony", probably is the response. They also dumb down cheaper tv's too make them lose worse than a big time brand. When is reality their are some really good HD TV's out their well priced outside of a sony etc.
