Fiinally.I hated when the lakers played on Christmas, they always lose. The second game is probably suns and spurs.

After three years, the NBA and ABC wisely concluded the novelty has worn off Shaq vs. Kobe/Heat vs. Lakers on Christmas. Instead, word is the NBA will have the Heat play in Cleveland on Christmas, creating a Dwyane Wade vs. LeBron James matchup.
Though the schedule circulating is tentative, Heat-Cavs is expected to be one of two ABC games that day, a league source said. The Heat is tentatively set to open at home against Detroit on Nov. 1. |

So are they sending us to the desert to play Phoenix instead this time? _________________ "I accepted their challenge. I accepted the doubt of everyone who spoke on my downfall and used their words as fuel. I have a franchise to resurrect, a city of fans to uplift." |

I predict suns and spurs.I do not want the lakers to play christmas day, they always lose.
I am curious to see how many national tv games the lakers get this season with kobes status up in the air.I know the heat and cavs will get the max.If kobe isnt playing, espn and tnt arent going to want to show the lakers much. |

Why do they make them play on Christmas? There's just something inherently wrong with that.
So glad no more Miami. _________________ I love LA........WE LOVE IT! |

I'll cast the dissenting ballot.
Though I felt the Laker-Miami match-up was a cynical marketing ploy, it did demonstrate the mass appeal of the Laker franchise. Now our team is taking a backseat to Cleveland and Miami? I don't care how you spin it, it is not a good sign. _________________ We are stardust

I have a hard time believing that the Lakers won't still be playing on Christmas. They are the biggest draw for the NBA. Maybe this year they actually get to play at home.
Not surprising they pinned Wade and LeBron for Christmas day though. |

GState / Dallas anyone?
Why would the league want two First round Flops playing eachother anyways.
LA - Chicago might actually be 2 big market teams and competative. |

I hope the Lakers play vs the Nuggets... Kobe vs Melo/AI
1st game: Wade vs Bron
2nd game: Kobe vs Melo/AI
Showcase the most popular superstars right now: Class of 2003 + Class of 96. That's just my preference, eventhough I know it won't happen. |

A good sign of what? That the Lakers might get a break from playing on Christmas? The team has played on Christmas Day for 8 consecutive years. If I was betting, I'd bet the Lakers play on Christmas again this year. But if they don't, let's not shed a tear because they get to stay home with their families. _________________ Game recognize game, Granddad. - Riley Freeman, The Boondocks |

Didn't the Lakers also play on another holiday this year? Easter or Thanksgiving? _________________ Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst. |

You know I always miss the Xmas game because the stupid In-laws are serving dinner right at the tip off. It never fails.
So if they don't play on Xmas that's fine with me. _________________ Think about how stupid the avg. person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

You missed the point entirely.
The marketing pull which is part of the brand equity of the Lakers, may be waning. That's perhaps the most tangible component of the Laker mystique. That is a concern, in terms of the influence of this franchise in both league matters and as a source for attracting talent. The Celtics had it, and now that it is lost, they have trouble drawing resources (talent and money). But no matter, the players get to take Christmas Day off to spend with their families, huh? _________________ We are stardust

I understood your point. Your argument was that them not playing on Christmas might be a sign that their perceived value is not as high as it was. My point was that they've played on Christmas Day for 8 straight years, so why make the assumption that the league doesn't value them as highly? If you're just looking at it from a marketing perspective, why would the league decide this after they sold more jerseys than any other team and Kobe sold more jerseys than any other player? I just don't see it that negatively. I especially don't see it that way because there's been no indication that they won't play that day, just that they won't play the Heat. _________________ Game recognize game, Granddad. - Riley Freeman, The Boondocks |
