Of course, I have to qualify this since folks get pretty uptight about discussing trade scenarios. This is total speculation and for entertainment purposes. Bottom line: I'd hate to see Kobe traded, but here's my stab at what I would consider if I were the Lakers' FO. I could get behind Arenas, an L.A. guy, coming home.
Anyway, the trade works on RealGM Trade Checker.
Lakers lineup:
PG: D-Fish/Farmar/Crittenton
SG: Arenas/Mo.Evans/CobyKarl
SF: Odom/Walton/Radmonovich
PF: Jamison/Turiaf/Cook
C: Mihm/Bynum
Not exactly balanced since there's a glut of PG's. (Although, why not move Arenas to the 2, granted he is 6'4 and a little undersized at the position. But maybe having one of the biggest frontlines in the league makes up for it).
Not sure if we'll see much defense either. But, from a purely 'talent' standpoint, we would arguably be the deepest team in the league. Our starting 5 wouldn't look too shabby either.
As for Washington? Maybe we throw in Farmar or Crit so they get a PG back (this still works on Trade Checker). In fact, if they wanted some size in return, we could substitute Cook, Radmanovich, even Walton (after Dec 15th) instead of a PG.
They might even improve defensively with Kwame in the middle or at PF with Haywood.
Arenas can opt out after this season. How far are the Wizards really going to go with Arenas/Jamison? With Kobe, it might be a gamble worth taking. They get the best player in the league and sell out a lot of games. Washington needs an identity. With Kobe, you get one fast. (Anyone know how the Wizards' payroll situation might help or hinder them picking up free agents next off-season to try and entice Kobe to sign an extension?)
Why would Kobe go there? Re-unite with Caron. Play in the east, have a good chance to make a run in the playoffs.
If Kobe really, truthfully, wants out even if he is not going to go to a contending team, maybe this is the only kind of trade that the Lakers will do that Kobe'll accept.

| I could get behing Gilbert also. His shot selection is HORRIBLE and he shoots 42% from the field. He's from L.A. though and we don't watch him every game so I can get behind him. Quit taking Kobe Bryant for granted. He doesn't want to play with Caron again bad enough to waive his no trade clause. |

You do realize that Kwame is HATED in Washington, don't you?
And why would Kobe go there with only Butler. |

bleh. if im looking to win a title in the short term, im not looking for a gilbert arenas. i stick with kobe and overpay for somebody to pair with him.
otherwise, id rather get cap space, picks, and start over. _________________ -Most people learn by saying mother, numb, horse, angry... I learned mine by saying Lakers, add gas. - HRD. |

A great PG + Critt at Sg+ an allstar SF+ + LO at PF + Bynum + Suns system+ Don Nelson, Melchioni or equivalent= Suns> Kobe, PJ and the triangle. |

kwame hated arena's and MJ. with this trade neither would be back.
washington hates kwame, though i think they'd allow him to return if he brought kobe with him. _________________ regarding sasha

that looks more like a poor man's version of the wizards with rookies than the suns. _________________ -Most people learn by saying mother, numb, horse, angry... I learned mine by saying Lakers, add gas. - HRD. |

Eddie Jordan and the Washington GM already dealt with Kwame once. They do not want to do it again. _________________ Trust in ODB (Old Doc Buss)! |

Sigh.
Just one Buss interview of him being honest when it comes to the circumstances of trading Kobe and now this is what LG turns into.
Can we talk about the upcoming season perhaps? _________________ formerly 'boogieman2k5'
