Totally forgot about that. It turned out much better than the original. It was also Johnny's last single.

When it comes to covers of "Redemption Song", it doesn't get better than Joe Strummer and Johnny Cash.

I love that version too, because I'm a fan of both guys, but I think Cornell's was better.

BTW, I love Redemption Song. I've been trying to get all the versions around. I got 10 so far. They include: Chris Cornell, Johnny Cash and Joe Strummer, Joe Strummer alone, U2, Ben Harper, Pearl Jam, No Use for a Name, Reaçao em Cadeia, and others.

Wyclef Jean has a cover of that as well. If you don't own it, PM me.

I think him being as old as he was at the time gave the song more meaning. I liked the Nine Inch Nails version but Cash's version was amazing.

I still get goose bumps when I see the Cash video

Oh c'mon...the correct answer is Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah. Actually anything Buckley covered was totally amazing. RIP.

Other good ones I can think of right now:

Talking Heads - Take Me To The River

Didn't know it was a cover.

How about Jeff Healey doing "While my Guitar Gently Weeps".

I hadn't heard that one, thanks for the link. I will try to download it. I'm not sure it is better than the original, but it is definitely worth listening to.

I've always loved Neil Young's " After the Gold Rush" and his cover of "Oh Lonesome Me" is one of my favorites.

I remember the 'redneck' version but somehow I never thought about the original while listening to Neil's version. His version was totally different and much much better.

i believe if we're talking Nirvana covers....their cover of Leadbelly's "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" would be the winner.

it's a brilliant performance from Unplugged. his voice like barbed wire, the crazed look in his eye right at the end. amazing.

I actually think Ryan Adams version is better than the original. But then again, I think Oasis is one of the most overrated bands of their era.

I STRONGLY disagree with this.
