Lucille's is way too expensive for what it is. I've eaten there once and while some of it is very good, some of it is also very mediocre. A few of the sides that come with your entree are down right awful. Definitely not a stop I'm willing to make again.

What's better in the area, Bigguy?

Phillip's BBQ USED to be pretty good. They're just ok now. They went up in price like 35% in the last 4 years and the quality isn't as great.

Which area are you talking about? I've only been to the Lucille's in Henderson, NV.

Not strictly BBQ but if you like Creole/Soul food Harold and Belle's is great.

Uncle andre's takes way to long. call ahead. like 25mins ahead. or else you'll be waiting for 25mins at minimum.

Phillips still gets the job done. but man, it aint like it use to be.

I usually hit up the one off Adams/Crenshaw and that one's truly slippin'. Which one one do you hit up?

I can't contribute, since I'm in Boston. The local Tennessee BBQ Ribs is decent, though I do a better job in my backyard.

I mix Roadhouse (Southern, molasses) with Scorned Woman (spicey), and a little red wine. I marinade the ribs overnight, and use copious amounts of hickory wood to smoke... and baste as I jawbone with guests.

Lucilles is OK. Overpriced, I agree. Memphis BBQ, and Daves in the LV area.

I tried Memphis and while the prices were decent, I didn't care much for the food. Some of it was tough and dry and underwhelming for being a BBQ Champ. The one thing that I really did like from there was their creamed corn, that was extremely tasty. I haven't tried Dave's but I'll give it a whirl the next time I'm out there.

Thanks for the heads up Zride.

Joey's (pretty tasty ribs and great Kobe beef burger) or Tony Romas Ribs are consistently good.

I don't understand making hamburger out of Kobe beef.

The reason Kobe is supposed to be superior is the way the fat is marbled in the meat. When you run the meat through a grinder, you destroy any difference Kobe had from regular beef.

A "Kobe burger," therefore, is nothing but marketing -- a way to charge more.

Ah, I guess I -do- understand making hamburger out of Kobe beef.

Most places in the US don't use "real" Kobe beef either.

I grew up in SoCal and then I spent a few years in Vegas.

I have a buddy that just went to the new Famous Dave's at Blue Diamond and he said it was damn good. Props for the suggestion on that one Zride.

I'm a fan of Robin's in Pasadena. It's just off the 210 by the Harbor Freight. There's a couple of other places I like... Barn Burners just off the 110, too. Also one other place I thought was decent was Dr. Hogly Wogly's. Yeah, its a jacked up name.

Yikes? Tony Romas? That's like saying McDonald's has the best burgers.

JnJ BBQ. Good BBQ at reasonable prices. Been there a few times so far and so far so good; no bad batches. They also have another side where they serve burgers etc.

i think lucille's (southbay area) is great, but that's because i like dry rub bbq. can't stand meat dripping in sauce.

in the compton area is bludso's is great. bludso, yelp

i haven't had the beef ribs yet since they only serve on weekends, but the rib tips were so good, and the brisket worked well for me, and that's not my favorite bbq.

both lucille's and bludso's give way too much food so unless you can polish off an entire plate, their prices aren't that bad.

Just tried Uncle Andre's that Mo'nique was praising on Oprah and it's ok. They have some pretty big baby backs though. Better to call ahead because that wait is about 35-45 minutes.
