PostPosted: Mon Apr 07, 2008 8:17 pm    Post subject: The Star Spangled Banner

Before games in major sports(here in America) or any game for that matter; teams always have a "singer" or some one play an instrument for the national anthem. Ever since I started watching sports, I have not heard the singer sing(or play) the song like it should be. People are always adding their twists to the song, which make it suck.

Don't you guys think that it sounds horrible that way? i do. Why dont they just ask the crowd to sing like they do at every soccer game. The anthem justs sounds soo much better.

Check this vid of the world cup 06 in germany. It just gives me the chills.

National Anthem

when america is serious about having a definitive anthem performed on the national stage they'll hire the only man who can deliver it.

Rick Astley.

due to the recent millions of hits on youtube, i wouldn't be surprised if someone hires him to sing it.

I was at England vs Portugal in the 2004 Euro's and to hear 15000 pf us singing God Save the Queen was really quite moving. I am anti-monarchy and I started singing myself.....

That was really good, and at the Forum! Whitney Houston's version at the Super Bowl is still the best for me. She had alot of passion.

Or they could just do away with the song altogether at sporting events

Gaye's rendition was terrible. Houston's was the best.

Stevie Wonder's harmonica version before the all-star game in detroit is another favorite.

Johnny Gill's rendtion before the Tyson/MacNeeley fight is quite good. Here's one by Gill before a showtime Lakers game

I personally think that the Oh Canada song is a much more beautiful song than the Star Spangled Banner. But I still like em both.

I am sick of the singers though who think it's "cool" to sing it like this...

"For the land and of the freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee and the home of the braaveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee."

I hate those with a passion. Just stop stretching it out... PLEASE.
