Or the people voting "43 and under"
ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDING?
Sure, the Lakers only won 34 games last year and lost 19 of their final 21 BUT, unless you didn't watch what happened, Odom was out, no Vlade, Grant was no existent, Kobe was banged up, Chucky sucked, George sucked, Rudy T left 1/2 way through the season, etc. Oh, and they had no defensive structure put in place whatsoever.
Even if the Lakers made NO significant roster changes this off season, with a healthy Odom, and Phil teaching defense, this team wins 42 games just like that.
No far fetched at all.
With Kwame and hopefully a point guard that is somewhat solid, this team could win 50 games.
But win "43 or less"? Barring injuries, this team WILL WIN more than that. |

I can't believe how sorely overrated Kwame is on this board.
It's not an overnight thing; he's not going to come in and just start averaging 20/10 in his first season, (bleep), the Lakers would be lucky if he averaged anywhere near that by the time Phil's contract is up. _________________ Los Angeles Lakers |

A veiled attempt to claim inside knowledge of a trade of DG/Slava/Vlade/Mihm/possibly Sasha FOR J-Will/Tsak/Wright...
Ok...I'll bite...
I'd makethe trade but that STILL wouldn't be an ideal squad...

People seem to think he's Zeus or something.
I know that his previous stats aren't an accurate representation of his talent/skill/ability/potential level, but some people here are talking like he's going to be Tim Duncan next year.
In my opinion, 15/9 is a liberal estimate for next year. _________________ Los Angeles Lakers |

That's funny...
Wright is a downgrade to Mihm? First time I've seen those words used in a sentence, EVER!!!!!!
Wright is strong, more talented and a better defender...where is the downgrade??? |

For what it's worth I think it would be more like -
PG: Williams, Smush
SG: Kobe, Anderson, Wafer
SF: Odom, JJ, Luke
PF: Wright, Evans, Cook
C: Kwame, Tsakalidis, Bynum
and since we are in dream land I'll add Reggie Evans for 2 year MLE. |

I think with a healthy team - forget the coaching - the Lakers could have won 42-45 games last year. So, with MUCH improved coaching and a better situation down low - Kwame, although I have my doubts about his potential, should be a defensive upgrade to Lamar. And Lamar playing Point forward is a better utilization of his skills... So I picked 53-59, betting on the lower end. |

So did I.
Anyone who voted for under 44 wins could not have possibly been paying attention to the season last year.
I'm looking forward to the season and we still have one or two more moves to make. It's going to be a much more enjoyable season. |

40 to 48. Somewhere between there. That team is too weak defensively to go any further than that. |

I dont expect them to make it to the finals, but I expect and hope that they make themselves known as up and coming _________________ "99% of the players in the NBA would immediately have surgery to repair a torn ligament in their small finger, but

the lakers will not have white chocolate or swift in their line-up. williams is headed to miami and swift to houston. instead, we will end up with a poor point guard barring some amazing trade to go with out decent starting 5.
starters:
1 Tyronn Lue (unfortunately)
2 Kobe Bryant
3 Lamar Odom
4 Kwame Brown
5 Chris Mihm
bench:
1 sasha/ smush parker
2 wafer/ devean george
3 luke walton
4 brian cook
5 andrew bynum
ronny turiaf's unfortunate heart condition kills what i thought was going to be a very productive 3 player rotation in the post (brown, mihm, turiaf) and leaves us thin at nearly every position. one thing that is consistently overlooked is the sheer size of our team. probably the only thing lue will bring to the team is a solid defender to plug the hole in what i think will be a very good defensive team. two 7-footers on the blocks plus 6'10" odom and 6'7" kobe adds up to a team that looks very 90's bulls-esque. if kwame can put together a reasonable 15 and 10 and mihm can continue to improve into a 10-10 player and odom can step into the pippen role and become an all-around force then this team will have a dominating defensive front. add perrenial 1st team all-nba kobe bryant who still has yet to peak and if tyronn can take care of the ball and contain the point guards that have burned us for the past 5 years then were looking at a very solid team. hopefully walton will get some more minutes and bynum shows some promise along the way. and i hope to god that medvedenko never sees the court in a lakers jersey. |

I see this as a 45+ win club, maybe a couple more, but a fringe playoff team. I like the Kwame move and unlike many, didn't have a problem with the draft at all, but the Lakers lack getting immediate help from their drafted players (particularly the Turiaf situation) and there are too many question marks to rate them higher than that, IMO.
Kwame is the key. If he blossoms in L.A. (and that's a big "if"), this could be a 50+ win team very soon. The PG situation is another key. They've got to get that right, and hopefully that's the reason we're not seeing anything develop quickly on that front. It was good to hear the Lakers say "thanks, but no thanks" to Payton and a few of the other re-treads. I'm not solid on Williams, but whomever it ends up being needs to have a reliable shot and plenty of upside to his game. Or at least no major downside. |
