|
|
Lakers, Pistons, Heat and Jazz have all had discussions with Luol Deng's camp
Quote: | First other teams are offering sign and trade packages that Chicago seems lukewarm on exploring. Those sign and trade packages could get Luol in the $13 to $14 million a year range, which is substantially more than Chicago's offer - roughly $9 million per year. Some teams are telling the agents of the restricted class to take the qualifying offer this year and get radically paid next year as unrestricted free agents; this includes Ben Gordon and Luol Deng. League sources suggested that the Lakers, Pistons, Heat and Jazz have all had discussions with Luol Deng's camp about the framework of a sign and trade. Luol's camp would not comment on the situation |
Deng is showing his "loyalty" to the Bulls and giving them two weeks to get something done otherwise "Deng will never again negotiate with them."
From what the talks are, the Bulls are offering less than what they offered
Deng last year. Deng is the perfect complementary player next to Kobe at
the 3, his "Pippen". If you recall he is also the player the Kobster vetoed,
when he was involved in any trade to the Lakers in Last year offseason
fiasco. He is young and Killed it in the playoffs last year, and would excel
next to Bynum.
Bynum
Pau
Deng
Kobe
Fisher
get it done Mitch!!!!!! _________________ "Nobody hates the good ones. They hate the great ones." - KB

Kobe is clearly a fan of deng. kup has to know that. deng with pau with AB would make IMO a no brainer for Kobe re-signing |

BYC would stop it from being a straight up deal. Other players would be have to be factor in. It would be hard for us to figure out what possible deals would be untill we know how much Deng will be signed for. |

Excellent. First, there's talks about Hinrich, and now there's talks about Deng. If Kobe can't go to Chicago, then bring Chicago to him! |

So does that mean we give up more on our end or on their end? This trade sounds really intriguing. It gives Kobe the perfect running mate on the tri. |

BYC makes it difficult to pull this off, but not impossible.
Odom, Mihm and Farmar for Deng and Hinrich can work if I've done the math right. But while the math works the player value doesn't, lopsided deal for LA. |

Deng is basically a 6'9" 2/3 who can play some 4 - but in a small lineup and not as a big rebounder
he can d up - better than average - doesn't have a perfect outside shot but creative in the post in a similar way to tayshaun imo
he'd be expensive - but we know LA wanted Deng with Hinrich (and Noah) for Kobe
I don't s how they could make a Chicago deal happen though where they get Deng and Hinrich - obviously that's a wet dream for the Lakers - although they'd need to find another legitimate 4 who can back up Pau
put this on the Lakers' pipe pile - something they'd love to explore - but don't have a lot of leverage to make happen at this point.
I've said this numerous times - watch the Deng negotiations - because I think Chicago is the most likely trade partner for LA
even though an actual Lakers trade happening is probably slim before the season. _________________ Salary Cap Strategist and Columnist at Bleacher Report and on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/EricPincus |

I think the Pistons, with offers based around either Tayshaun or Rasheed, would be favorites in a sign and trade. Though, its possible that the Bulls think that Odom would fit better than Rasheed, and would value his ending contract. |

Maybe a three-way can be executed in which we get a backup PG back, along with a filler big. |

Are you sure?
I think you can pull off Deng and Hinrich for Odom and Farmar. I'm assuming $57.5 million at 5 years. |

Deng for 14 million per? That is kind of steep for a player who had a lousy season. I think 10-12 is about his price range. I would trade Odom in a heartbeat for him.
Miami = The Matrix
Detroit = Prince
Jazz = AK47
Lakers = Odom
I would think Odom would have the most value only because he's still young and can play PF, which is exactly what Chicago needs. _________________ The great Laker Center Tradition continues.....Mikan, Wilt, Kareem, Shaq, Gasol, AD....Gasol. |

I'd love to to have Deng, but it will be complicated to get him. Wouldn't a Odom-Something Else for Deng-Gooden deal get it done mathematically?
As for the other suitors: Logically Detroit would have to give up Prince or Hamilton and I don't see the Bulls biting on either one. Heat could offer Marion, but that gets rid of their plan for cap room next year. Utah could offer Boozer, but would that really make them better?
On to Chicago, I don't think they want Ben Gordon back, so if someone offered him the MLE, I'm not 100% sure they'd match it. _________________

They would almost certainly have to make it a Deng+Gooden deal. Assuming Deng gets somewhere in the neighborhood of what he wants (say $12 million per--way too much, but we'll use that for now), he'd be worth about $6 million in trade, plus 7 million for Gooden=Odom at 14 million and change. Plus, Gooden fills Ronny's role as back up big for the next season.
That all said, Chicago would have to want to resign Odom next season, and he's going to be wanting about the same money as Deng is asking for. Maybe they think Odom is worth it.
On the Lakers end, I wouldn't go much above whatever Chicago was offering last season (which was starting him at $10 million). Great fit at the 3, very nice player, but he isn't worth superstar money (at least not based on his play last season). |

Contrary to popular belief, Odom doesn't have the youth factor going for him. He's 28, which makes him a year younger than Marion, a year older than Prince, and two years older than Kirilenko. |

It wouldn't be $14 million per season. It would start at $9 million, and as Deng's salary increases, Hinrich decreases.
I doubt Chicago would do it, even if we tossed in a future first and the Memphis second round pick. I doubt the Lakers do it, due to the salary commitments. It is worth a phone call though, and an important question fired off to Kobe about compromising on salary later. |
