On the news, the sports guy stated that that LO-Gasol-Bynum will be the tallest frontcourt in league history. I wonder if that is true and if our starting lineup will be the tallest in NBA history (definitely would be if Yue started).
That is something else....

I would think Sampson-Olajuwan-Thorpe is right up there in the top 2 or 3...

Wonder if there's an official stat that could be looked up???

Sampson, Olajuwon, and Thorpe never played together on the same team.

I stand corrected.....

Thought they played a year together but Sampson was already at Golden State when Thorpe joined the Rockets.....

September 29th is media day, where the players come in uniform and take pictures, and answer media questions and such. Then the next day is when the real training camp, with running and basketball drills, starts.

So 22 more days until we see the team in the purple and gold, smiling, and answering questions about the upcoming season.

i dont want to see them smiling. i want to see them and read reports of them after sept. 30, so i can start judging what players games look like & figure out what improvement i should expect.

Most people don't watch pre-season, but I agree with you, I'm usually glued to the TV to see how the players are looking. I'm curious to see how Sun looks, but I'm more curious to see how Bynum and Gasol look together on the court.

yeah, first they have to prove jerry west wrong. he doesnt think they'll be good together because he thinks they'll be 2 slow guys running up and down the court.

in pre season i love watching 2 see how guys fit with each other too. unfortunately, we have to wait for rookies to get cut before we get a better look at the bench guys.

i'll be waiting to see trevor show he's a lot better than people think, see what sasha worked on and how good he does it, look to see what farmar did, and watch bynum's improvement. i think lamar may add a wrinkle or 2 to his game but other than that i figure the rest will be the same. mihm better bring some game or he'll be riding pine in his last nba season. my gut tells me that sun yue has a chance to sneak up and surprise a lot of people. he doesnt have to be a great scorer. if he plays d and passes well, pj will probably use him some because he's got heart and seems to be a smart guy. sun in the rotation is going to make it hard on a lot of pgs because of his length and hustle the same way tayshaun and bowen make it hard on team's top scorers.

Being new to LA, I have a question for the locals...

When a game is on, KCAL broadcasts them all? Does FSN have some too? If its showing on ESPN, does it show on a local channel too?

All road games are on channel 9. All home games are on FSN. These channels still broadcast the games even though the Lakers are on TNT or ESPN. Except when they play on ABC.

Unless something's changed, TNT has exclusive rights to the games they broadcast on Thursday nights. So if the game is on TNT on a Thursday night, you cannot see it on FSW or KCAL-9.

However, if its on TNT any other night than Thursday it will also be on FSW (if it's a home game) or KCAL-9 (if its an away game).

Except for months that end in "r". (j/k)

Hell, except for the Jazz, their opponents are a bunch of bloody wankers

you know that means they are probably gonna go lose all of their games in the preseason... but its ok, you know why?
because its the PRESEASON!!!

Exactly. The preseason is when the bad teams usually win the most games.

It's when teams play their rookies to see who they are going to keep and who they are going to cut. And teams with the worst records usually have the best rookies.

You'll probably see our starters for maybe 15 minutes a game, if that. And you probably will see even less of Kobe. Why risk injuring them in preseason games that don't count?

For the most part, the Lakers won't start playing to win until the beginning of the regular season.

It's still worthwhile going to preseason games to get a glimpse of the new players, however.
