Scores are too low. Lakers' lowest score last year was 89 points (at Detroit sans Pau or Bynum). The last season in which they didn't have a final score lower than 89 was 1987.
On D
- Make Paul a scorer, not a facilitator.
- Keep Tyson away from 2nd chances.
- Limit open 3's for Peja/Posey/Peterson.
They will definately need to do those things. It will be a tough job keeping Paul out of the paint, and still playing good d on their shooters. Hornets are loaded with 3pt bombers. _________________ "It's just a job. Grass grows, birds fly, waves pound the sand. I beat people up."-The Greatest
THe hornet are a good test for us? I thought that was Houston? Interesting.. if the Lakers bring their A game, we got this. Kobe and Pau played 36 mins last night, don't see no reason why they won't be alert and ready to go today. Bynum played even less, and he is always so hyped for these match ups with other bigs. I say we got this, we still got the blooding pumping in our veins from last night. Let Paul get his, and stop the others.
Last night, JKidd was lighting it up, the Lakers focused on Dirk, because stopping him is the key to stopping the Mavs. Everyone got involved offensively but Dirk. You know he gotta get his for the Mavs to win. With NO its the same thing, let Paul get his and stop everyone else. Sic Sasha on his, to drain his "sick jumpers of death" on him!! _________________ New Beginings
Tonight will be the true test for our D. They will run pick and roll until they are blue in the face. We have done great thus far, but pick and roll has always been Phils achilles heel.
I say the matchup zone kills the pick and roll and we win going away by 7. 4th quarter D too much for NO!

Basically, on offense we need to make their frontcourt (Peja, Chandler, and West) work. This means more touches/pick and rolls involving Pau and Bynum, as well as more minutes for Ariza (because I'd love to see Peja try to hang with him).
On defense, make Paul into a scorer is obviously a good idea, but even more so, make sure we always have a body on Peja and Chandler. I do have a feeling though that we'll be trapping Paul a lot and letting David West take as many shots as he can.
The overall keys are really just 1) keeping Chandler off the offensive boards and away from the lob dunks, 2) preventing Peja from getting open looks from 3, and 3) on offense, to go inside-out instead of outside-in (i.e. make sure we play Gasol and Bynum a lot, hopefully also get West/Chandler into foul trouble). _________________ LakersGround's Terms of Service
Bynum will have a bounce back game. Kobe will try to do too much during spurts, but will regain his form. Sasha will hit 2 clutch 3s and Pau will have a quiet 18 pts.

QUICK START IS A MUST. NO SLOW START TONIGHT!
We can handle the pick n roll, it's the ball reversals to Peja or Posey on the weakside 3's that will be our weakness.
Fish hasn't really played well yet this season, but he normally gets up for Chris Paul. He had some very good games against NO last season, and even though he didn't really keep Paul in check, Fish definitely made him work offensively and was very physical with Paul. He also made Paul pay consistently for roving on defense. We need some of that from Fish tonight...
Big key people are missing: NO is very thin at C position. Gasol and AB need to attack, if Chandler gets a quick two fouls, he'll be NO factor in the game and his back-ups are horrible. Other K, like always, Lakers D,,,,
If they get behind like they did in Dallas, they won't be able to come back, they need to get off to a solid start...

Trevor 13/ 4 steals
Radman 8 pts
Fish 10/5

The Hair Band 8 points and 2 techs
Get Chandler in Foul trouble, they have no size at all.
Guard the perimeter, dallas killed us imagine the Hornets.
Last season at times Lakers made CP a scorer and focused on him not getting the others involved which worked really good.
We are better offensively, defensively, and are a lot deeper than them.
Lakers 111,
Hornets 103
I just think having the twin towers will cause a lot of trouble for them. Lakers will get off to a fast start I hope.
I'm curious if we're even going to make an attempt to play the new defense tonight. There's no way we can leave their shooters--you can't move away from Peja or Posey (who's ridiculous from behind the arc this year)--which means you can't form that wall you'd otherwise want to to prevent Paul from penetrating. That "make Paul beat you" strategy would force us to discard the new gameplan--which is too bad because it's in place to take out stars like him. But I agree that any previous success we've ever had against them depends on limiting their other guys. It will also be interesting to see how Kobe does against Posey--in the past the fact the Hornets had no one to guard Kobe was another one of our major advantages.
