Any line or lines from a song...whether it has meaning to you, sounds cool or is catchy.

Mine right now probably has to be out of the song "don't forgive me" by the chili peppers.

"I'm the rainbow in your jail cell, all the memories of everything you've ever smelled"

People tell me it's a sin
To know and feel too much within.
I still believe she was my twin, but I lost the ring.
She was born in spring, but I was born too late
Blame it on a simple twist of fate.

She said I have to go home
cause Im real tired you see
But I hate sleepin alone
Why dont you come with me
I said my babys at home
Shes probably worried tonight
I didnt call on the phone to
Say that Im alright

Diana walked up to me,
She said Im all yours tonight
At that I ran to the phone
Sayin baby Im alright
I said but unlock the door,
Because I forgot the key,
She said hes not coming back
Because hes sleeping with me

A few faves:

Eleanor rigby died in the church and was buried along with her name
Nobody came
Father mckenzie wiping the dirt from his hands as he walks from the grave
No one was saved

I Wish That For Just One Time You Could Stand Inside My Shoes
And Just For That One Moment I Could Be You
Yes, I Wish That For Just One Time You Could Stand Inside My Shoes
You'd Know What A Drag It Is To See You

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Don't let them fool ya,
Or even try to school ya! Oh, no!
We've got a mind of our own,
So go to hell if what you're thinking is not right!
Love would never leave us alone,

A few that come mind immediately:

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain.
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.

---

You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to,
So that when they turn their backs on you,
You'll get the chance to put the knife in.

---

Walking side by side with death, The devil mocks their every step
The snow drives back the foot that's slow, The dogs of doom are howling more
They carry news that must get through, To build a dream for me and you

---

Wreathed in smoke in Lebanon
We burn the midnight oil
The fragrance of Afghanistan
Rewards a long day's toil
Pulling into Katmandu
Smoke rings fill the air
Perfumed by a Nepal night
The Express gets you there

First/every verse in Aesop Rock's "Daylight"
pinnacle of rap songwriting.

First and only verse in El-P's "Dear Sirs"
-best free verse poem/rap i've ever heard. sit down and read these lyrics, its disgusting how good they are.

Last verse of Andrew Jackson Jihad's "
People II: The Reckoning"
"so here's to you, mrs robinson..."

First verse of Nas's "New York State of Mind"
by far the grimiest, realest narrative in hip hop

Last verse of Elliott Smith's "Angeles"
perfect portrait of the artist.

and my favorite partial verses (because i don't really dig the rest of the song as hard):

But where was it when I first heard that sweet sound of humility?
It came to my ears in the (bleep) loveliest melody.
How grateful I was then to be part of the mystery,
to love and to be loved.
Let's just hope that is enough.
-Bright Eyes
...and also:

Oh welcome to this world,
have as much fun as you would like while helping others
have as much fun as you are having.
Be kind to those you love,
and be kind to those you don't.
But for Gods sake you gotta be kind,
and respectful because we're all one soul.
Be the best (bleep)-ing people that you could be!
-Andrew Jackson Jihad

You gotta keep one eye looking over your shoulder.
You know it's going to get harder, and harder, and harder as you
get older.
And in the end you'll pack up and fly down south,
Hide your head in the sand,
Just another sad old man,
All alone and dying of cancer.

You guys missed my lyric, which is the best part of that song. Then the lovely solo in D minor with the talk box. One of my all time fav songs.

No, I'm just too lazy a dog to quote multiple posts.

Sounds of laughter shades of life
are ringing through my open ears
exciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love which
shines around me like a million suns
It calls me on and on across the universe

--------

Ma il mio mistero e chiuso in me,
il nome mio nessun sapr No, no, sulla tua bocca lo dir quando la luce splender
Ed il mio bacio sciogliera il silenzio
che ti fa mia!

-------------

Apathy Their Stepping Stone
So Unfeeling
Hidden Deep Animosity
So Deceiving
Through Your Eyes Their Light Burns
Hoping to Find
Inquisition Sinking You
With Prying Minds

And Jesus was a sailor, as he walked upon the water,
And he spent a long time watching from his lonely wooden tower.
And when he knew for certain only drowning men could see him,
He said, All men will be sailors then until the sea shall free them!
But he himself was broken, long before the sky would open,
Forsaken, almost human, he sank beneath your wisdom like a stone.

"Suzanne", Leonard Cohen

(no religo, just a superbly crafted verse)

People already covered Pink Floyd, so I won't go there.

Here's a couple:

Well I got this guitar and I learned how to make it talk
And my car's out back if you're ready to take that long walk
From your front porch to my front seat
The door's open but the ride it ain't free
And I know you're lonely for words that I ain't spoken
But tonight we'll be free all the promises will be broken

There were ghosts in the eyes of all the boys you sent away
They haunt this dusty beach road in the skeleton frames of burned out Chevrolets
They scream your name at night in the street
Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet
And in the lonely cool before dawn
You hear their engines roaring on
But when you get to the porch they're gone on the wind
So Mary climb in
It's a town full of losers and I'm pulling out of here to win.

--------------------

Beneath the city two hearts beat
Soul engines running through a night so tender
In a bedroom locked
In whispers of soft refusal and then surrender
in the tunnels uptown
The Rat's own dream guns him down
As shots echo down them hallways in the night
No one watches when the ambulance pulls away
Or as the girl shuts out the bedroom light

Outside the street's on fire in a real death waltz
Between flesh and what's fantasy
And the poets down here don't write nothing at all
They just stand back and let it all be

And in the quick of the night they reach for their moment and try to make an honest stand
But they wind up wounded, not even dead
Tonight in Jungleland

----------------------------------

Sweet the sin, bitter the taste in my mouth
I see seven towers, but I only see one way out
You gotta cry without weeping, talk without speaking
Scream without raising your voice
You know I took the poison, from the poison stream
Then I floated out of here

----------------------------------

If I could, you know I would
If I could, I would
Let it go
This desperation
Dislocation
Separation
Condemnation
Revelation
In temptation
Isolation
Desolation
Let it go
And so to fade away
To let it go and so to fade away

I'm wide awake, I'm wide awake, wide awake
I'm not sleeping

---------------------------------

For three nights running now, I’ve had the most unusual and disturbing dream
where I’m a nineteenth century French painter with a palette and paintbrush
and beret and an ill fitting black suit and I’m painting perfectly rectangular white lines on an endless snaking desert highway and people are yelling at me:
“You missed a spot.”

-----------------------------------

It’s got tattoos, it’s got a pierced hood
It’s got generation X
It’s got lesbians, and vitriol,
And sadomasochistic latex sex
It’s got Mighty Morphin’ power brokers,
And Tanya Harding nude
Macrobiotic lacto-vegen non-confrontational free range food
It’s got the handshake, peace talk, non-aggression pact
A multicultural interracial non-segregated historical fact

Say Amen. Hallelujah! Say Amen
It’s a certifiable number one smash
Hallelujah. Amen.
Certifiable undeniable solid platinum number one smash.

It’s got more hooks than a tackle box,
It’s got really loud guitars
It’s got a blasting cap in the fertilizer,
Got the secret anguish of the network stars
It’s anti-fur, it’s unplugged, it’s got an OK from the Pope
Got art nails and a Wonderbra, and
Dread lock blunt rolled Buddha dope
Got the head nod, the finger pistol,
The nose up in your crack
Montel, and Geraldo,
And the women who hate the men that hate them back

--------------------------------------

Grey is not the color I expected
On someone who is often touched by grace
The eyes that hold the promise of perfection
Will find the flaw that no one can erase
And though she hears the rumors of intention
And many times I've failed to hide my stare
She will not breach a hint of indecision
She will not ever bend to show her care

GNR - November Rain
I love the whole song but these lines mean the most to me.

And when your fears subside
And shadows still remain
I know that you can love me
When there's no one left to blame
So never mind the darkness
We still can find a way
Nothin' lasts forever
Even cold November rain

Surprised no one has listed these two classics:

What's Johnny doing out on a Tuesday night
Johnny can't read, Johnny can't write
Kids just don't understand
Johnny don't care about the world
As long as he can do his girl
And prove that he's a man..

He got wasted, eating ludes
He's teenage and best of all
Getting high proving he's cool
Johnny hates to think that he's ignorant
He's a mindless brainwashed (bleep)
Ring a bell and he starts to drool

Degenerated
Degenerated
And our minds are vegetated
Degenerated
Degenerated
Our actions are imitated

He's got PCP in his veins
He's gonna put a bullet in his brain
Addicted to the TV
When he's old he's gonna have a son
I said they'll both be a deaf and dumb
What's to be come of young Johnny?

Degenerated
Degenerated
And our minds are vegetated
Degenerated
Degenerated
All our actions are imitated

Degenerate

What you gon' do with all that junk?
All that junk inside your trunk?
I'ma get, get, get, get, you drunk,
Get you love drunk off my hump.
My hump, my hump, my hump, my hump, my hump,
My hump, my hump, my hump, my lovely little lumps (Check it out)

I drive these brothers crazy,
I do it on the daily,
They treat me really nicely,
They buy me all these ices.
Dolce & Gabbana,
Fendi and NaDonna
Karan, they be sharin'
All their money got me wearin' fly
Brother I ain't askin,
They say they love my ass ‘n,
Seven Jeans, True Religion's,
I say no, but they keep givin'
So I keep on takin'
And no I ain't taken
We can keep on datin'
I keep on demonstrating.

My love (love), my love, my love, my love (love)
You love my lady lumps (love),
My hump, my hump, my hump (love),
My humps they got you,

She's got me spending.
(Oh) Spendin' all your money on me and spending time on me.
She's got me spendin'.
(Oh) Spendin' all your money on me, up on me, on me

What you gon' do with all that junk?
All that junk inside that trunk?
I'ma get, get, get, get, you drunk,
Get you love drunk off my hump.
What you gon' do with all that ass?
All that ass inside them jeans?
I'm a make, make, make, make you scream
Make you scream, make you scream.
Cos of my hump (ha), my hump, my hump, my hump (what).
My hump, my hump, my hump (ha), my lovely lady lumps (Check it out)

I met a girl down at the disco.
She said hey, hey, hey yea let's go.
I could be your baby, you can be my honey
Let's spend time not money.
I mix your milk wit my cocoa puff,
Milky, milky cocoa,
Mix your milk with my cocoa puff, milky, milky riiiiiiight.

They say I'm really sexy,
The boys they wanna sex me.
They always standing next to me,
Always dancing next to me,
Tryin' a feel my hump, hump.
Lookin' at my lump, lump.
You can look but you can't touch it,
If you touch it I'ma start some drama,
You don't want no drama,
No, no drama, no, no, no, no drama
So don't pull on my hand boy,
You ain't my man, boy,
I'm just tryn'a dance boy,
And move my hump.

My hump, my hump, my hump, my hump,
My hump, my hump, my hump, my hump, my hump, my hump.
My lovely lady lumps (lumps)
My lovely lady lumps (lumps)
My lovely lady lumps (lumps)
In the back and in the front (lumps)
My lovin' got you,

She's got me spendin'.
(Oh) Spendin' all your money on me and spending time on me.
She's got me spendin'.
(Oh) Spendin' all your money on me, up on me, on me.

What you gon' do with all that junk?
All that junk inside that trunk?
I'ma get, get, get, get you drunk,
Get you love drunk off my hump.
What you gon' do with all that ass?
All that ass inside them jeans?
I'ma make, make, make, make you scream
Make you scream, make you scream.
What you gon' do with all that junk?
All that junk inside that trunk?
I'ma get, get, get, get you drunk,
Get you love drunk off this hump.
What you gon' do wit all that breast?
All that breast inside that shirt?
I'ma make, make, make, make you work
Make you work, work, make you work.

(A-ha, a-ha, a-ha, a-ha)

Seriously though, here are a couple favorites, in their entirety:

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

I was born by the river in a little tent
Oh and just like the river I've been running ever since
It's been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will

It's been too hard living but I'm afraid to die
Cause I don't know what's up there beyond the sky
It's been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will

I go to the movie and I go downtown
Somebody keep telling me don't hang around
It's been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will

Then I go to my brother
And I say brother help me please
But he winds up knocking me
Back down on my knees

Ohhhhhhhhh.....

There been times that I thought I couldn't last for long
