|
|
I have just finished my two newest blog entries.
The first one explains how we can beat the strong-side zone against Kobe. Once you read it, you'll see that it is relatively simple in theory. But in practice, the Lakers have struggled at times against this strategy. When they struggle, the spacing is inadequate, there's little movement, and there is no passing. Consequently, Kobe holds on to the ball for too long and the offense becomes stagnant. As we saw at the beginning of the year, the Lakers used this same tactic against other teams on defense. It was successful for a while, but it is easily countered once teams recognize the gaps and adjust accordingly.

The second one explains how the system takes care of mismatches on offense. While other teams use set plays, we can do everything within our offensive flow, and all five players need to recognize the mismatch and exploit it as much as possible. As always, spacing, accurate passing, and good rhythm can quickly punish favorable mismatches on offense.

Nicely done too, Wilt. Thanks.
It's a take on the classic roll-baseline to the basket when zone-side defensive eyes are elsewhere, but as always, timing and quickness in execution are everything.
Garnett and Pierce sniffed this one out last year almost every time when we were slow or obvious in passing; they caught the pass mid-key so many times. In my mind's eye, it's how I remember the '08 Finals. |
