Negative, , now you are extremely overestimating Jordan to the point of sillyness. Unless the world ends tomorrow, there will always be someone that will come along and be better. The only problem is that there will be incomparable factors, errors in judgement and bias when people try and compare differents era's and styles of play within a given sport. It is basically all subjective, which makes this speculation and discussion fun. To state that Kobe (or anyone for that matter) will not be better than so-and-so before he (or that player) is even half-way done with their career is sillyness. For one, 5, 10, or even 15 years from now the standard of judging greatness for a respective sport may and most likely will change. Varying factors will have greater influence on someones opinion during one era than another factor that was prevelant in another era. As a basketball fan, I will never say that someone does not have the chance to be better (or considered better) than Jordan, or Wilt, or Kareem, or Magic, because Jordan even said so himself, that there will be someone who will come along and be better than him...it is inevitable, and it will all be subjective and perspective when the time comes...

Good points. I've got to admit that any player being compared to MJ is a tall order? Why? Because was the only player of the modern era to place all the emphasis on himself while winnning at the same time.

With most great players, their individual accomplishments sometimes take a back seat to a ring. Jordan accomplished the impossible: Both....
1991 Finals MVP - Jordan
1992 Finals MVP - Jordan
1993 Finals MVP - Jordan
1996 Finals MVP - Jordan
1997 Finals MVP - Jordan
1998 Finals MVP - Jordan

Compare that with Magic who didn't seem as focused on the individual accolades:
1980 Finals MVP - Magic
1982 Finals MVP - Magic
1985 Finals MVP - Kareem
1987 Finals MVP - Magic
1988 Finals MVP - Worthy

Although I'd rather have Magic, one can always make the arguement that Jordan won all by himself.

Also people were talking about Jordan being the GOAT before he had won his 3rd ring. Which also kills your argument.

Negative, the true GOAT references did not start to come up and be a legitimate title of MJ23 until he began winning championships during his second three-peat (after coming back from playing a completely different sport). Nobody except Chi-fans and extreme Jordan fans thought that about him after winning only two championships.

Wrong because I remember when Jordan retired the first time, they were talking about how the great of all time may have retired too early. But ask for the rest of your argument you make very valid points.

I'm sorry The Mike, although you have made valid points yourself, I will have to respectfully disagree with your statement pertaining to MJ23 being referred to as GOAT after winning only two championships (even the first 3 in a row). I remember this time period in pro basketball, and Jordan without a shred of doubt was considered by most, if not all, the best basketball player on the planet by far, however, he was not seriously or widely considered the GOAT until he came back from playing a completely different sport, leading his team to a 72 win season, and winning 3 more championships in a row. Before the second threepeat, this notion of Jordan being the GOAT was NOT widely mentioned or considered by MOST basketball fans, basketball media personnel, or basketball historians. He was merely, for a period of several years, considered the absolute best basketball player on the planet and easily top 5 (ever). At this point (season 92 to 93) he was definitely not considered the GOAT...

There were many basketball fans who easily would have argued that Jordan (at this period in time) was still in the class of Magic, Kareem, Bird, Wilt, Oscar, and Russell. He had not quite separated himself from the pack of great ones until near the end of the second threepeat; and this is when it became clear to most fans, media personnel, and historians that what we were witnessing is the GOAT...This is when they started to call him that...
