just got back to san diego from the game tonight.
in the fourth quarter we started a wave around the 300's at staples, it went around a couple times.
then the lower bowl people joined us and it went around five times.
thought it was pretty cool.
thanks for reading!

Doug Collins the longtime annoying commentator on TNT was confused by the wave of jubilation from crowd and erroneously thought that it was another cry for tacos at around 8:49 in the fourth quarter.

That was fun to see on the telecast, hope to see it again in the next series.

Laker fans are starting to piss me off.

#1 - Chanting for tacos in a playoff game.

and now...

#2 - Doing the stupid wave at a basketball game.

I agree. Don't do the wave at a basketball game.

come on fellas.......the lake show was up by forty. Id be doing the wave just to stay awake.

first they get bashed because they dont show any emotion. Then the hardcore fans upstairs start something that even the snotty fans downstairs join in, and we call it stupid?

Maybe after a 40 point blowout the fans should have just left.

Yes, they can do what they like.

First, I really don't like this classification of fans upstairs as hardcore and fans in the lower bowl as snotty. There are many hardcore fans in the lower bowl. Many of them post on LG. Personally, I practically always sit in the lower bowl. I am not snotty. I've sat in the upper level once and it was a terrible exerience. I sat next to a drunk guy who didn't really seem to know much about the Lakers.

The wave at a basketball game is dumb imo because it gets back to you in 3 seconds.

Cosign. The Lakers have been here before 1000x. Act like you have too. Leave the crowd wave at Dodger Stadium.

I sat in the upper deck last night. Suffice to say I won't do it again. There were 4 fights, I was seated next to a guy that wet himself and the fans had no idea what was going on. I'll take the conversations with the longtime fans I've had in the 10+ games I've sat downstairs this year any day.

I've sat 1st row courtside in the NBA Finals as well as last row rafters for the NBA Finals. Without a doubt, the more passionate fans are on the upper bowl. Whenever I sit down low, I always struggle to find people to high-five and cheer with. My best experience at a game was in the last row. I met the absolute best fans ever.

So of course...not everyone on the lower bowl is comatose, and not everyone on the upper bowl is the ideal fan; however, I don't think anyone can argue that the general vibe coming from the fans in the upper bowl is more electric.

You do realize that they put up a graphic on the big monitor that prompts them to chant that, right?

I just thought Laker fans were better than that. It shows a lot of disinterest and takes away from the action on the court. Maybe they should start bringing in beach balls too. Section 303 or 304 was where it was started last night. There were a bunch of animals sitting over there. That was the area where a lot of the fights started.

Some people are just way too self-conscious and demand everyone else be like them too... once they stop trying to control others and love themselves more they will be free

"Beat LA" -- "Kobe Sucks" -- Etc. Yet, a "Wave of Jubilation" is Classless?!

When you sit courtside there is nobody behind you to high five and cheer with. This isn't even a comparison. Lower bowl is a far better fan experience. I regularly sit in the same section there and everyone around me has had their tickets for years. Same people, same passion.

If passion = drunkeness and misbehavior, you've got it in the upper deck.

I agree that we can't classify people. I think there are great fans on both levels. It's just that too many people say that the real fans are in the upper level and the people in the lower level are rich people who don't care about the team. This isn't true. I was disagreeing with that statement.

However, my experience at games has shown me that a lot of people on the lower bowl are passionate while a lot of people up top are simply drunk.

edit: I don't think the wave is classless, just dumb because it gets back to you in 3 seconds and eventually people get sick of it after it goes around a few times.

Also it distracts from the game. This isn't baseball which has constant breaks in the action. Yes I know we were up by 40. It doesn't bother me that much. I just saw a thread about it and I agreed with one of the replies.

Laker fans at Staples seem to be really getting into it... very loud and supportive... to me it seems much more so than in Houston...

I'm really happy to see the great support from the fans at staple... LA is typically more lay back... it's sure got to help...

It was a complete BEATDOWN... the fans had one of the biggest highs they could get for their money... I am sure the Lakers were proud they played so well that the fans WERE EUPHORIC
