Will anyone feel sorry for this guy when Phil leaves after next season and he doesn't get the head coaching job here?

I have a gut feeling that we'll see either Brian Shaw or Byron Scott on the sidelines for us in the future..

Im not really down with hiring Kurt. I wouldnt mind Byron. But I would rather and know im gonna get heat for this but I would love Jeff Van Gundy. He loves Kobe and Pau and has that relentless and tireless attitude that we sometimes wish Phil would have.

Do I dare sense that you do not like him as an assistant?

Wow... epic 9 year necro!

I will always love Rambis (though... as a head coach.... ew). If he can bring something positive in some minor role, I'm fine with that.

His resume stinks just like Scott but whatever Jeannie and Magic like him. Don't think he has much to offer at this point

Oh dear good, Kurt Rambis is like the poor family member that always comes around for leftovers and a hand out. Can't he find employment anywhere else or does it always have to be with the Lakers when all other options fail? Sometimes you just have to have some pride and cut the cord, Jesus.

He’s part of the Laker family, a hard worker, and generally seems like a good guy, I’m fine with him coming back. Also his wife works for the Lakers so it makes sense.

Welcome back. Never should have left Kurt unprotected in the ‘88 expansion draft.

He's generally done okay as an assistant but never in the big chair. I'm concerned if Jeanie (through Magic) is forcing him on Luke because of her personal relationship with his wife and whether he'll disrupt the coaching chemistry of Luke's hand-picked staff.

We all know Rambis is a die-hard Jeanie loyalist but assistant coaches need to be loyal to the head coach first. We don't need any snitches in the huddle.

Rambis is fine as an assistant just not a HC. I can't see this as a move to be a HC at any point that ship sailed twice.

This guy has a terrible track record at the coaching level. Please give him like a cushy front office consultant role.

I don't understand why we can't just be done with this guy.

He's been a good assistant. But I'd prefer him in the office for reasons you mentioned. He is one of my all time favorite Lakers. Maybe it was the mullet. Or the fact that he got clotheslined and got right back up to go at McHale. But sometimes a guy like that with a place in some fan's memory are not the best fit... like having a guy from yesteryear lookin over your shoulder. You never know what that relationship is like now. Rambis was an assistant while Luke won with the Lakers. Luke spent a lot of time on the bench with health issues... maybe they bonded.... or maybe it's like having your old coach lookin' over your shoulder.

I agree. This entire team smells so fresh and clean right now. I don't want to bring back dirty retreads to stink up the place.

I don't understand why we can't just be done with this guy.

Linda Rambis is an exec with the Lakers and reportedly one of the people Jeanie leans on.
It'd make sense to try to find a place for Kurt, however it shouldn't be on the coaching staff
We need some X's & O's guys, and desperately need a shooting coach more than we need another showtime retread.
