Shostakovich, Symphony 10, first movement. This is a huge movement with many climaxes, but my favorite is when the clarinet enters at 2:50. Just beautiful. The greatest instrument of all.
This thread's true motive is for people to start listening to classical music!
When I get the time, I'm gonna listen to those selections you gave us. In the mean time, try this.....
I'm guessing both men would have appreciated the other.
Just to add...
The trumpet was very limited in Mozart's time since it didn't have the modern valves. He used it mainly for harmony in his C major, E-flat major, and D minor works. Hence, it was even more difficult to play than it is now.
If you listen to the finale of the Jupiter Symphony from my previous post, you can see how he used the trumpets (and french horns, which were INCREDIBLY difficult to play back then) brilliantly throughout the movement. When the other instruments were playing the fugue, trumpets and horns supplied the harmony by playing longer notes in the simple keys of C and G. _________________ ¡Hala Madrid!
