I think it does, even if Artest re-signs without Yao the Rockets do not make the playoffs.

well i don't know about them not making playoffs because they're still a very strong team, but they'll definitely offer artest more money to stay

it very well could, but it's far more likely to affect the rockets' decision on artest...

The Rockets are in serious trouble. honestly i dont see Yao playing a full even 75% of a season and the playoffs anymore. he's too freakishly big and he has played alot of basketball these past few years. id hate to see Ron Artest the face of the Rockets franchise for some years to come. they better try and get some big name and FAST.

PostPosted: Tue Jun 30, 2009 9:32 pm    Post subject: Agent expects Lakers to pursue Artest if LO/Ariza don't pan out

Quote:
If either Ariza or Odom prove to be too expensive for the Lakers, one backup option could be Houston forward Ron Artest, a player Kupchak has targeted in the past.

Agent David Bauman said Tuesday afternoon that the Lakers, Cleveland Cavs and Orlando Magic were three teams he expected to join Houston in pursuit of Artest.

"Ron's tight with Kobe," Bauman said. "From a basketball perspective, the Lakers make perfect sense. Ron is a winner. His best fit is when he's on a winning team. He shoots the three, posts up smaller guys, and defensively he's a beast. Certainly those are skills a contending team would find attractive."

Bauman would not discuss salary demands for Artest, but few teams have the cap room to pay more than the mid-level exception, expected to be valued at slightly less than $6 million.

Artest has said his first choice would be to re-sign with Houston, a fact that Bauman said hasn't changed despite Yao Ming's foot injury being more serious than first believed.

"He's hopeful Yao is going to be healthy," Bauman said. "Even if Yao misses some time, Ron's confident Yao will be back on the court. It's not affecting his decision one way or the other."

Well, if you can't trust an agent, who can you trust?

After all, Ron is a winner. Look at all that winning he's done, and stuff.

Okay, so if its Houston, Cleveland or LA it comes down to timing. If he can't get a good long term deal from the Rockets, he takes a MLE deal. The Cavs won't commit past this year (keeping a max spot open next year) so they really don't have a leg on the Lakers, if anything LA would be favored between the two. I guess I'm hoping for a quick decision for Ariza and Odom, that way they aren't out of the running for all the backup options.

PostPosted: Tue Jun 30, 2009 10:18 pm    Post subject: Ron Artest Wants To Remain In Houston, With Or Without Yao

Quote:
Ron Artest's agent David Bauman said Yao Ming's condition has not changed his clients desire to return to the Rockets next season.

"Our first choice is to do a deal with Houston, Bauman said. Yao's situation doesn't change that. It has not affected us one way or another.

"He's concerned more for Yao than anything."

Bauman said that he and Artest are confident that if Yao does miss much or all of next season, the Rockets have the depth and roster flexibility to make moves without stepping back to rebuild.

"The beauty of what Daryl (Morey, the Rockets general manager) has done, is the Rockets are not just Yao Ming," Bauman said. "They are Ron. They are Aaron (Brooks). They are Shane (Battier) And they are (Luis) Scola. That's the great thing about this team. They can fire on five or six different cylinders."

If Ron is a worst case scenario I'd say we're in pretty good shape.

I really want LO and Ariza back but Artest isn't a bad plan B IMO. He has proved that he can behave when in a good situation. He respects Adelman and played for a contender and I think he'd respect Kobe and Phil and would be more than happy to play for a title. He'd be a good fit for us.

I would gladly take Artest. i think he would be a better fit than Ariza at the 3. he could guard the big 3's of the league (LeBron, Melo, Pierce...) he's a great 3 point shooter, and he's a load in the post.

if we resign LO, and sign Artest...i think we can win 3 more titles in the next 4 years.

I was thinking the same thing, Artest as our starting three would make us better, at least for the next two years or so, then with Ariza. Artest can do a lot more on offense and like you said can guard any wing in the league, remember what he did to LBJ in that Houston game, shut him completely down.

It really all comes down to Houston, if they make him their priority then he probably gets 7-8 million deal from them and stays. But if they don't give him a deal, or one that big and just an MLE like deal I think he will only end up getting a MLE offers from other teams, and I'm almost sure the Lakers would be his first choice, it just makes too much sense.

Resign Odom, drop Ariza and sign Artest.

Bynum-Gasol-Artest-Kobe-Fisher WOW!!

With Odom off the bench. Get it done.

Just think...if Artest joins the Cavs, Lebron would be free to guard the Rafer Alstons of the world all season long just like he did during the playoffs! Sweet!

Artest is an upgrade over Ariza for now at least .
maybe Ariza will be a great player some day, but for now, Ron has better offensive game, and his shot is a little better than Ariza's.
one more thing is that he can post up and create his own shots

The best offer the Lakers could offer Artest would be the full MLE...

Assuming the MLE is about $5.5M .... 5 yrs $32 million

I do agree if Ariza bolted, then Ron wouldn't be a bad backup plan.

So basically Ron-ron's agent just told us that neither Cavs, Lakers nor Orlando have pursued Ron, but he's hoping real bad that they do so he can drive up the price for Houston.

Especially since they lost their two best players (plus Deke) this season and they would be rebuilding around Artest if he stayed.

Until Adelman gets fired.

Not a knock on Adelman, but he was brought into to get this team to the Finals and it's going to be very tough without T-Mac and Yao.

Given that the Rockets are the only team that is likely to offer Artest more than the MLE, I'm sure that Ron and his agent are deeply infatuated with Houston.
