Did I miss something? This is Carmelo Anthony, right?

Did Melo grow and can now be a viable option at center? Or found the fountain of youth and regained his athleticism to now play solid defense or finish on the break?

If not, then no!

I haven't read all the replies, but I say no. I had a feeling he wouldn't play that well with the Thunder, as he's a ball dominant type of guy. He likes to catch it, post up, dribble, and use a lot of clock until he gets his shot off.

Plus, his age.

Since Magic is signing nothing but a bunch of mental midgets I think Latrell Sprewell is available.

Did Melo change his tune of "I'm not coming off the bench?"

1. I'd rather us focus on getting a starting center (Lopez, please) instead of a no-defense-playing, ball-stopping, shot-hungry PF who thinks he's still a 1st option.

2. Kuz needs all the minutes he can handle.

3. See points 1 and 2

You’re trashing Magic. The Goat of everything. And you’re trashing Spree? The Lakers would kill to have Spree in his prime. That dude carried the Knicks to the finals.

And back to Magic. All these signings were with a purpose. Magic knew Lebron wanted to play off ball and gave him the best opportunity to do so. We are gonna play with pace and Lebron off ball is the best chance to do so. This team is going to be a lot of fun next year. Rondo to a cutting Zo. Rondo lob to McGee. Lebron in the post, kick out to Kuz. Lebron in the corner with a lob pass only BI can catch. Rondo driving the lane and a toss back to a charging Lebron. Can’t wait.

I don't get why people are so against Melo here. Career 35% 3-pt shooter at PF, was 36% last year on 6.1 3FGA per game. James is the alpha of his generation and Melo would know he had to fit in. It's kind of like the other signings. LeBron sets the standards and you get with the program.

That's part of the reason I expect him to go to Houston. Neither Paul nor Harden have rings and he can look at himself as one of three. The main downside is trusting D'Antoni to keep him in the rotation.

if he's cheap, sure. i do think last year was a bit of a worst case scenario; on the Lakers this year he'd be expected to score 20/game and be more engaged.

If he's not going to prevent the team from signing Brook, I'm fine (meaning 1 year minimum deal).

Mental midgets? Say what you want about Lebron and Rondo, but mental midgets they are not. McGee got a lot of flack over the years for his Shaqtin’ moments, but he was very effective in his role in GS which should be similar here. Stephenson is the only head scratcher.

Just ... say ... no to Car-mel-o.

Quickly too. This can't be an option worthy of long consideration.

If melo comes, there a good chance kuzma ball and ingram will all play from the bench.

Rondo
Kcp
Lebron
Melo
Mcgee

Honestly a lineup of

Ball or Rondo
KCP
Ingram
Lebron
Mcgee Or Lopez

already puts Kuzma on the bench. I doubt Lakers are thinking of Lebron or Ingram as your center. Not saying we won't do this just that signing Carmelo takes away minutes from Ingram, Kuzma and Lebron playing together. Which IMO is better than any variation with Carmelo. Pass

I think Lebron would love to have Melo here

We all know lebron is afraid of taking clutch shots, where as Melo, on the other hand, wouldn't mind take the shot

I'm told that Magic Johnson and LeBron James discussed the possibility of bringing in Carmelo Anthony at their July 1st meeting in Brentwood (L.A.). LeBron James approved. Other teams w/ interest include Warriors, Rockets, sources say.

I am not a salary cap guy or a wannabe GM. However, it seems to me that there might be an opportunity here for a three way trade involving the Spurs. OKC gets Deng and thus cap relief, the Spurs get Anthony and thus an expiring contract, we get Leonard. We would need to toss in some additional assets and cash, of course. The Spurs are going to want value, and the salaries need to balance within the rules.

That's probably crazy, and the details would be a nightmare. But it's something to chew on.

Crazy is right. We should just stand pat.

That was a criticism that was valid about Lebron 6 or 7 years ago, but in the last 5 or so years he's been a great clutch performer and hasn't hesitated to take important shots.

That said, Carmelo has always had a rep as a good clutch shooter, and while I haven't seen his recent stats he's probably still a good close-out guy even if his overall game has declined.
