Kid looks like a Garnett clone. Suprisingly athletic. Likes to finish with authority. Good mid-range jumper/fadeaway. Pretty good footwork in the post.

Thoughts?

The report was that he was overshadowed by a former Clipper, Wang.

Wang beat him on fundamentals and strength. Yi has an NBA game.

But, I have a lot of question marks about the kid. I don't see what the hype is about.

Right now he's compared to Pau Gasol. No way near KG and right now more like a young Pau Gasol. He's still projected to go lottery tho.

Except he doesn't have Gasol's high post game.

I'd say he's an Andris Biedrins with less mobility but made up with a jumpshot.

Worse rebounder than Biendrins though; Yi doesn't have the lower body strength to rebound traditionally. AB doesn't either, but Biedrins keeps his long arms up and swallows up rebounds, Yi doesn't have that kind of eye for rebounding, though he could improve (probably should watch videos of AB playing).

He's someone to keep an eye on. Who knows what it might take to buy Yi out. If he's not an early first round pick, it may take part of an MLE. Hence he could drop to very early in the second round... which is exactly where the Lakers are situated, thank you Charlotte.

I sent a quick scouting report to a fan who PMed me about him.

Upside: KG
Middle: Gasol (still a bit optimistic)
Downside: Milicic

Strengths: Agile, fluid athlete. Good explosiveness. Really resembles Gasol with footwork, agility, skill level, and length out of Euroball. Works well facing the basket and has good ball-handling ability to make him effective when he hasn't commited to a dribble from 15' out. Soft touch and plenty of length makes him a crafty finisher in the paint.

Weaknesses: Strength. Subpar shotblocker. Subpar rebounder. Gasol is 7' with a 7'6" wingspan and you can say similar things about him. Plenty of gifted offensive talent, but hasn't put all the other fundamentals altogether. Gets pushed around for position. Doesn't really utilize much outside of 8' from the basket.

Comments: Recall Milicic was drafted lotto for the same reasons. 7', 7'5" wingspan. Good-ball-handler. A bit slight of frame. 18 at the time, crafty finisher, very good athleticism, and a better shotblocker and rebounder against better competition against Yi. Like Yi, he hasn't gotten his game completely altogether. Yi, like Dirk has a similar issue. No true position on the floor. Too slow for SF. Too slight for PF.

And we're not really sure about his age, which makes it all that much tougher to project his ceiling.

In other words, he is nothing like Biendrins.
