Welcome, Wes Matthews. Please don't dribble in the half-court.

ESPN's DRPM ranked Matthews as the #2 defensive sg in 2019-20. Link. Overall, he was ranked as the #11 sg (adding ORMP and DRPM together). Personally, I believe that this is a great pickup.

Yeah, for the price it's a great pickup. Gives us that grizzled hungry veteran 3&d guy to replace Danny Green. Hopefully we still bring KCP back and if that's the case with Rondo going somewhere else I still believe our guard rotation will be anywhere from a decent amount better to WAY better depending how all these pieces end up coming together and playing along side each other but Rob is grabbing some nice logical pieces that look to actually mesh.

This is a real nice signing. I was happy to spend 4mil on him, so the BAE seems about right

He'll take a starting spot and play around 25 mins a game. Pretty much a 3&D guy, good fit next to Bron

Some links for intel regarding Wes Matthews. The intent here is to inform. Like many of you I had limited viewing of Wes. Folks like to toss things out like "injured", "achilles", etc. Obviously could be concerning, but that injury was in 2015, and focusing just on this past season, this is what we see:

1. Discussing Wes positive impact on Bucks D, including solid play vs Kawhai:

https://behindthebuckpass.com/2019/12/16/milwaukee-bucks-wesley-matthews-turning-back-clock-defense/

2. Review from a Grizzlies site re their take on Wes. Conclusion: Solid 3 and D guy:

https://www.grizzlybearblues.com/2020/10/12/21512157/grizzlies-free-agency-profiles-wesley-matthews-memphis-nba

3. Video, Wes taking on the best player in the league, our LBJ. He's not afraid and stays after it:

4. From a Heat fan on Fan Sided re Matthews. Really believes he'd be a great fit with the Heat, points out his D and floor spacing:

https://allucanheat.com/2020/11/04/miami-heat-wesley-matthews-hand-glove/

I will look for more and post, but in sum: Solid defender, has shown he can guard the bigger wings and be a pest. Solid 3 and D guy.

I'd say so far, so good.

Wonder what Mike's thoughts are on the signing. I know he was worried about missing out on Danny's defense.

Matthews coming for Danny Green's starting gig per blue check reporter. Schröder's coming off the bench, I bet.

Check his twitter feed.

Matthews is a better, more physical on-ball defender than DG and the drop off on off-ball defense isn't too significant. I'd call it a wash and then Schröder is a big upgrade over Regular Season Rondo.

Real good signing at that price.
The one year deals are interesting.

Schroder 1 year deal left
Wesley 1 year
Caruso 1 year
Kuzma 1 year
McGee 1 year

Wonder if we will keep KCP .... I have my feeling we’re aiming for cap flex in 2021.

No metric tells the whole story of what happens on the basketball court. Still, metrics can tell a story. Here is the RPM story for the Lakers guard changes (link):

**Out**
Danny Green, ORPM:0.03, DRPM: 1.14, RPM: 1.17, ranked #22 sg
Rajon Rondo, ORPM:0.82, DRPM: -1.81, RPM: -0.99, ranked #56 pg
Avery Bradley, ORPM:-1.12, DRPM: 1.26, RPM: 0.14 , ranked #37 pg

**In**
Dennis Schroder, ORPM:2.07, DRPM: 0.30, RPM: 2.37, ranked #11 pg
Wes Matthews, ORPM:-1.01, DRPM: 2.88, RPM: 1.87, ranked #11 sg

From an RPM perspective--which is not the complete perspective--the Lakers have upgraded the guard position. We will see what it really means once the new season starts.

By the way, Marc Gasol was the #10 ranked center last season. C'mon Rob, make it happen!
