Camp Kobe: How Kobe Bryant taught NBA players the Mamba way

Quote:
“Kobe called me a modern stretch big, and I wanted to be, ‘Oh my god, Kobe just called me a modern stretch big.’ I couldn’t do it in the moment because there was a film session,” Collins said. “I was like 'Holy hell, Kobe actually knows me.' It made the camp for me. After the camp, he called my agency and said, ‘I really didn’t know too much about Collins before but I’m damn sure happy I invited him to the camp.’ I couldn’t be any happier.”

Quote:
Handy helped organize the mini-camp, and invitations were sent to some of the NBA’s best players: Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving, Paul George, Tobias Harris, Jamal Murray, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Aaron Gordon, Isaiah Thomas, De’Aaron Fox, Norman Powell, OG Anunoby, Bobby Portis, Buddy Hield, Malik Beasley, Rodney Hood, Josh Hart, Stanley Johnson and Collins.

“For me, it was drop everything on the schedule and make it happen,” Harris, a Philadelphia 76ers forward, told USA TODAY Sports. “Just to be able to learn from my idol. Once I got the call, I was all in."

Quote:
“Kobe was hands-on with everything. Everyone who left there left there knowing they were impacted by Kobe.”

Bryant’s demeanor permeated.

“Confidence,” Gordon said. “ I got a lot of confidence from Kobe. The way he carries himself. His presence.”

Quote:
Players rotated station to station, had access to Bryant for one-on-one instruction and each day’s on-court sessions concluded with five-on-five games. In one session, Murray, a Denver Nuggets guard, wanted the challenge of guarding Irving, a six time All-Star.

Quote:
“It was super competitive to the point that Kobe, being the guy that he is, is always stirring up the pot,” Handy said. “My greatest memory of it was how much he encouraged these dudes to really compete against each other and not be afraid to take the challenge of guarding each other and going at each other.

Quote:
“It was an honor and a blessing,” Harris said. “To have those moment, to interact with your idol and see him up close and know how much he put into the game and how much he wants us to put into the game, that’s important."

The world hasn't been the same ever since Kobe's death.... RIP

I found a video collection of ESPN, ABC News and media talking about Kobe's death 1 year ago. It's a historical moment in sports history. In 10-20 years, people who didn't lived through Kobe's career won't truly realize how massive Kobe's tragic death was.

Here's the full list of the video collection within this torrent file.

- ABC News Kobe Bryant: - Death Of A Legend

- beIN Sports HD 11 English: Kobe's Farewell

- ESPN Hoop Streams: Remembering Kobe Bryant

- ESPN SportsCenter: Kobe Bryant Tribune

- TNT Inside The NBA: For Kobe Bryant

- NBA Extra France

- NBA The Jump (27th-31st January)

January 26th will forever be a day of infamy in my book. Easily one of the worst, tragic days of my life. One year later and I still find myself having a difficult time processing Kobe and Gianna's death.

It's a waste of time and maybe a bit unhealthy, but I always think of these 'what-if' scenarios with them. Gianna was going to be a WNBA star. Also, somehow and someway, Kobe was so gifted in story telling that he was going to eclipse everything he did on the court. So impressive for a retired icon to transition so smoothly into a new passion. What a brilliant mind.

It pains me to know that Kobe thought he had so much time on the back end after his basketball career to be with his family and they thought the same.

Time will slowly heal these wounds. LIVE ON KOBE AND GIANNA.

Remembering Kobe and Gianna one year later 🖤 Number 24 will never again be worn by a Dallas Maverick.

Our thoughts are with the Bryant family today and always.

Man this one hurts no matter the passage of time. Rest in peace. Kobe once said he thought his scars were beautiful. This is a major scar for all Lakers fans but let's enjoy the memories as best as we can.

The Dallas Mavericks have retired #24 to honor Kobe.

You can't say anything bad about Mark Cuban. He also helped get Delonte West off the street and into a treatment center that he now works at. What a nice story.

Kudos, Mr. Cuban. Kudos....

“It hurts me a lot because tomorrow is a day where all this happened and at the same time tomorrow is my birthday as well,” Harrell said. “So, it hurts a lot, because it’s like you want to celebrate your birthday, but it’s just such a tragic loss like this that you don’t know really how to. So, I was really thrown off and really didn’t know how to kind of go about it last year when it very first happened. I haven’t really thought too much about it being my birthday. I know more so about tomorrow is about Kobe.”

Rest easy, Mamba and Gigi, and all those who passed on with you that day.

I can't remember clearly how exactly I learned the news, or whose tweet Is aw first.

I just remember trying to figure out how I was going to call my boy away at college his first year... to tell him his hero had died. Worst and most vivid memory for me.

Rest easy, Mamba and Gigi and all of you. May you and your loved ones all have healing and comfort and love and peace.

One of the saddest days of my adult life. I've been through some tough times, emotionally speaking, so I am still shocked that I felt this way about the passing of someone I only saw in person once, from some 150 feet away when watching a Lakers game in January 2011. He was my childhood hero, though, and I followed him closely for his entire career. I have random bouts of sadeness thinking of the tragedy and I still can't bring myself to watch his highlights, games or even read articles about him.

Gone, but most definitely not forgotten.

NTSB says pilot in deadly crash that killed all 9 aboard, including Kobe Bryant and daughter Gianna, was disoriented in clouds

Quote:
LOS ANGELES -- U.S. safety investigators said Tuesday that the pilot of Kobe Bryant's helicopter flew through the clouds last year in an apparent violation of federal standards, likely becoming disoriented just before the helicopter crashed and killed Bryant and eight others.

Robert Sumwalt, chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board, said that pilot Ara Zobayan was flying under visual flight rules, which meant that he needed to be able to see where he was going.

Zobayan piloted the aircraft to climb sharply and had nearly broken through the clouds when the Sikorsky S-76 helicopter banked abruptly and plunged into the Southern California hills below, killing all aboard.

I think what hurts the most other than the obvious is just how avoidable all this was. I wonder if Ara had flown through clouds in the past and felt confident this was a piece of a cake situation? I mean clearly he didnt enter the fog thinking he's taking any major risks.

I also dont see Kobe pushing the pilot to do it but I wasnt there. I just dont see one of the best dads in the world taking that risk. Seems like the most avoidable tragedy in aviation and I say this as someone who lost family in a plane crash. It haunts you so much...the only thing you keep thinking about is exactly what everyone tells you to stop thinking about which is their final moments. I lost my aunt and grandma and it was devastating. Cant imagine what Vanessa goes through

18 years ago today, Kobe put up his 3rd straight game of 42+ points, vaporizing the Nuggets with 51, all part of what would become the greatest month of sports viewership in my lifetime. It began when Kobe possessed Latrell Sprewell

I remember hearing or reading somewhere that he went on the tear because he was amped about becoming a father. Happy 18th birthday to Natalia.

Kobe

As many on this site, Kobe, Gianna and the victims of the helicopter crash always cross my mind. The thing that continues to baffle me, is just how much Kobe evolved as a person from 1996-2020 right before our eyes.Laker fans literally watched him grow up & I think that's why alot of us are still affected by his death even though we didn't know him personally. Also, I want to add that Kobe was an AMAZING human being that just happened to be great at basketball.

As much respect to Kobe, that logo idea by Kyrie is absurd. If anyone should be the logo, it should be the jumpman Jordan logo. Also did not like the Black Kings built this league nonsense. This is the kind of racist rhetoric that needs to go away

What the hell was Kobe thinking not calling Garnett back???? The only real excuse is that KG was calling him when his heart was set on leaving LA when Detroit and Chicago were real options. There is nothing else that makes sense.

His heart is in the right place but Kyrie isn't much of a thinker (i.e. the earth is flat). Bringing this kind of attention to Kobe's memory can do more harm than good. He really should keep his mouth shut if he thinks basketball started when he remembered seeing it for the first time. There are many special players who have played over the history of the NBA.

Bill Russell has more claim to that honor than anyone.
