Loved it, so good. Just wish all 3 parts came out at once. (bleep) difficult trying to play on the hardest mode though. Some of the bosses are a complete doozy.

What do you mean about all 3 parts coming out? Did they split the game into 3 parts? Hope this comes out on PC...fond memories of my last year in high school playing this game.

Yeah, I’m on chapter select hard mode now. Skipped ahead to Chapter 8 and beat Reno and Rude after a few tries each. Took me like seven tries to finally beat Hell House in hard mode in chapter 9. Really difficult to do without being able to restore MP other than through soul drain.

They lengthened the first part (Midgar) of the original and made it its own game. The rest of the original story is coming out in sequel remakes.

Yeah. Game gets up to the point where you break into Shinra Headquarters and then ends right after.

I believe it launched for "free" with PS Plus today. "Free" as in if you are a paid subscriber. PS Plus has actually been pretty great with the game offerings recently.

Never really been a FF fan, but may give it a shot since people praise it so much. I wonder if it will hit the same if I have no nostalgy for the original.

Are you used to Japanese RPG's? The role playing aspect in them are pretty anemic. Story is going to be pretty much on rails and there's not really an open world like you'd find in Witcher or Cyberpunk where you can pretty much do whatever the heck you want. Combat is going to be done through menus too. If you're not accustomed to it, it's going to seem pretty primitive overall.

JB's right, but the combat system did change for the remake a bit. It's slightly more dynamic, although still done through a menu.

JB - check this, rumor has it that part II will be open world (i.e., the part after the team leaves Midgar, all the casino stuff, etc).

I've played turn-based RPG's before, but yea it's not a genre that I run to play. I've liked the old Kingdom Hearts games and Persona 4. To play a JRPG I feel like I have to be in a certain mood or I will just drop it after a day or two.

Combat system is live action now. When you build up enough of an ATB charge, you can make the game go slow motion and use the ATB charge on a spell or ability. Not turn based anymore.

Very cool. Might pick it up when I can get my hands on a PS5. The open world Cutheon said was going to happen in the sequel has me interested.

Saw videos on YouTube of people playing it because I played the original a bunch and loved it.

I thought it looked great until they changed the story too much later in the game, and the ending is horrible in my opinion. The old version looks so outdated now and I was hoping for a more modern FF7 version, not something that is better described as a sequel. I’m okay with it only being in Midgar though. I thought the game had too many “fetch” quests too. I was okay with many of the additions to the story, but later on the story changed too much. Also I thought the Whispers were stupid.

Yeah, the side quests feel like chores rather than actual fun. They’re all just “Find the cats/children” or “Kill some random monster that’s hard to find.”

The ending was disappointing, but it wasn’t really the real ending since it’s at least a three part series.

They have an updated PS5 version and a DLC coming out in June. I would just wait for that version.

This one felt too linear. Open world sounds awesome.

I think one reason the side quests annoyed me was the other parts of the game were more fun. I wanted to see the story and the game go on instead of seeing things come to a halt for a bit because of a side quest.

So I agree. When the side quests were completed, my feeling was “okay time to move on to the interesting parts of the game.”

I wish they could've opened up Midgar more. I wanted to explore all sectors in Midgar. It didn't have to be a full blown open world game but some non linearity and world building would be nice. When they said they were gonna concentrate on expanding Midgar, they didn't expand much at all. Things they did add was pretty boring, felt like padding the game with pointless stuff.

Agree with everyone, the side quests were such a chore and not interesting. I didn't like the new characters they added, they didn't bring anything to the story they were more annoying.

Played the game on normal difficulty, and replaying the game on hard mode feels like a chore in certain chapters.

But they did get the most important things right about the remake which was the battle system, music, characters(from original), and story right(mostly).

The game could have been a masterpiece in it's own right but some areas could have been done better.

I’m replaying on hard mode and the restrictions on recovering MP just make it seem like a chore as opposed to actually enjoyable. Now I just have to engage with random enemies and use soul drain to recover MP for Aerith. In Cloud’s case, I had to just run around in circles for ten minutes against the jerry-rigged cutters chapter 9 to wait for MP to regenerate.

The game could have been a masterpiece in it's own right but some areas could have been done better. The developers would better have a closer look at WoW in terms of attention to details and some other things.

Finishing playing the game. In my opinion it is awesome definitely worth playing.

Yes, I totally agree with you. This is a very good site that gives you cool emotion.

I especially love it when spam bots latch onto the posts of other spam bots. Maybe they can have an endless spam fest… somewhere else.
