You must understand how hard it is mentally under normal circumstances for a team to repeat. Given how far from "normal" this past year has been, it's not surprising at all that this team is struggling. My hope is, once they hit the playoffs, their championship mentality will kick in.

The Lakers can find IT this year if they get healthy.
Would just rest Lebron until his leg don't hurt anymore.

This just shows the need for a third playmaking guard.
Even if third string and a rookie.

But the parts are there to make a run if everyone gets healthy.

Gasol will just have to play the part of third playmaker until Lebron gets well or DS can play again.

If the AD that showed up for most of the night v the Nuggets shows up, this team will be a tough out. Glad to see AD challenging himself, especially on the mental/emotional side. I'm pretty sure at the end of the game he yelled "I'm back!"...perhaps an even better version?

I'm definitely encouraged.

Pelinka gambled on talent over fit after winning a title, and ended up not working out. Dennis, Harrell, & Drummond all complained about their roles and minutes, along with not fitting in on the court. The 71 day offseason, Covid, Hill taking out Bron's leg, and AD's injury sunk the Lakers and was too much of a hurdle to survive.

I don’t think any combo of old pieces could have survived the injuries to LBJ/AD.

exactly... all the mental machinations on how we lost or what we should have done better is nonsensical since both were injured for much of the season....

Health was the killer but also makes it difficult to analyze the true measure of the team. People have legitimate arguments about some of the (ill) fits.

Just look at game 3. We beat the Suns easily with a healthy AD and a 65% LeBron.

True. But that also doesn’t mean that Dwight/rondo/green would have been enough without AD and LBJ for long stretches of time.

I understand that injuries were hard to overcome. But my question, again, is what about the poor play of our players not named AD and Lebron? What about...

* Kuzma, who never seemed invested in the post season.
* KCP, who went the vast majority of the season missing wide open 3 pointers
* Alex Caruso, who has not improved his play at all
* Dennis Schroder, who turned down 84 million dollars only to go 0-9 in a critical game 5
* Gasol, who openly complained about his lack of playing time
* Drummond, who never got going offensively
* Trez, who went from 6th man to Invisible Man
* The Laker offense that couldn't score
* Vogel, who relied too much on the presence of the fragile AD
* Pelinka, who failed to keep our championship core together.

We started this year complaining about being tired instead of excited about repeating. There was no drive, no passion, no focus on being dominant. All the energy went into (bleep) about how short the turnaround was.

And then we had new players that, early on, seemed to diss being Lakers, or who didn't improve their games because they were still fat on last season's championship.

We never obtained an IDENDITY this season. The Lakers, as a team, seemed to never be truly invested in winning another ring. I knew that early on, because even when we were completely healthy, we were losing to the quality teams. Any success we had early on, record wise, was due to our beating inferior teams. I knew then this team was in trouble.

Yes, injuries screwed us up. No doubt about it. But injuries had nothing to do with role players playing horridly this season, players complaining about playing time, players not progressing their skill sets, players missing wide open shots from everywhere on the court, coaches not deciding on a good rotation.

Lakers just never had "it" this season. Never did.

Did any of our players this year have even an above average year? Everyone underperformed.

No it doesnt. You need defense and offense.
Dont go by last year's lucky win. We got covid break for our stars, played portland and nuggets who went through brutal games before playing us and gassed out. Then played hobbling heat and it took us 6 games to beat them where Adabayo and dragic were injured

They should have been able to make the games competitive, even without AD. Finished the year with no confidence at all, none. That's the disappointing part. Or maybe they really aren't a playoff team without both superstars in there. True championship or bust type roster.

Remember we are still talking about if Malone was healthy we would have won that year. A team that had Shaq and Kobe.

Losing AD? That was a lot of the “it.”

Lol about lucky win, we were too dominant last year. A lot of teams have to play great just to win a game.

The team didn't have enough mentally or physically to bring excitement in a loss. Would have been nice to see Kuzma score 25-30 a game guns blazing, team loses 120-115. The way they lost, it feels like they need to go back to the drawing board and start over. But like you mention in the end, the "it" really was the injuries to the foundation.

Not everyone is on the same page with this team. Few of them are me me me type of players . A championship team should never cater to these type of role players. At the end, they did not step up . It’s one thing to lose competitively with heart then lose decisively.
