|
|
Starters:
5 - SHOOTER
4 - Anthony Davis
3 - LeBron James
2 - SHOOTER
1 - SHOOTER
Bench:
5 - RIM PROTECTOR
4 - SHOOTER
3 - SHOOTER
2 - SHOOTER
1 - FACILITATOR
This is what Jazz, Suns, Clippers, Nets did and you can even put Mavs in there with Luka + 4 shooters was able to accomplish. These teams always have at minimum 3 and even 4 shooters always on the floor and they have shooters in all 5 positions whether a starter or off the bench.
Aside from AD and LBJ, if anyone else doesn’t fit the criteria above, trade them! _________________

With the Splash Brothers reuniting and Brooklyn looking like a dynasty with two thirds of their trifecta... we won't do anything without adopting this philosophy also.
Luka with his baby fat destroyed Kawhi and PG most of the time... good offense will almost always beat good defense.
We need shooters period. |

I'll take it a step further; look at what the Dodgers did. Pay that $$$ for power hitters and contact guys, shore up the bullpen and just outscore everyone.
Basketball is all about scoring points. To score points, you need players that can make baskets. I'm very surprised that we have so many players that simply can't make a wide open basket on this Lakers team. |

Get the rights of Micic from Thunder.
Maybe we can sign McDermott cheap .
Or maybe Redick given his age.
We just need at least one pure shooter on this team who may give us 10 -15 minutes when KCP is off. |

Lakers would be better off surrounding AD and Lebron with a bunch of 3 point specialists who play marginal defense. It would open up lanes and their offense.
Fact of the matter is Lakers do not have good shooters. I'll exclude Lebron and AD.
DS - never a great shooter
KCP- either hot or ice cold with no in between
Kuzma- lol, he thinks he's a shooter but he's terrible
Kief- never a great shooter
Caruso- not a great shooter
Matthews- percentages have been trending down as he's gotten slower and older _________________ 17 time World Champions |

Kief Morris, KCP, ex-Laker danny green, reggie bullock, etc etc etc were all good three point shooters before came to the Lakers. and once they don the Laker uniform they all become very inconsistent shooters. not sure what the problem is, but this trend is very obvious. |

LAL did that. Shooters that can't do anything else, don't stay on the floor.
Gotta do better than just getting shooters. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

I believe someone like Micic can help us right away even in limited minutes.
How about Larkin? |

Micic can play immediate minutes. What I mean is, OKC has ties to Micic and they have an agreement about his future.
Larkin makes too much money overseas and isn't the gravity threat the NBA respects. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Without LBJ/AD commanding that attention as a duo, our shooters were cooked in the playoffs. When they can't create off the dribble, even worse.
Everyone wants long, 3/D guys who can also create off the dribble.
But we only have a mini MLE of 6m...yikes. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Actually, LBJ got tons of wide open looks for the guys. Guys didn't hit.

if only it were that simple...
It is true that the 4 likely semifinalists this year (UTH, PHX,PHI, NJN) are top offensive teams with one of them being all star team. Lakers ended up 24th in OFFRTG so I agree that part needs to be addressed in order to score enough points to keep up with these teams.
However, it is ALSO true that 3 of these 4 are top 10 in defense (PHI #2,UTH #3 and PHX #6). NJ has an all star team so defense really doesn't matter although it is apparent they can play good defense if needed. But, just as point of reference, Lakers did end up #1 in DEFRTG.
Ideally, every team is looking for something like a Nash/DAntoni/Malone offense AND Vogel/Snyder/Thibodeau defense. Remember the 2016-2017 Warriors (#1 OFF and #2 DEF) - simply unbeatable (16-1 on their way to the championship).
So, unless you are proposing some way of assembling an all star offensive team where defense is not that pertinent, it is just as important that whatever "shooters" they get be able to play defense too. For example, KP can shoot but sucks on defense so that plus the 30m/yr salary would be a dumb move. |

Top 6 minute-getters beyond LBJ
KCP : was injured for several games. When healed shot fine.
Schroeder: bad outside shooter - worse than his percentage indicates because he hesitates and loses confidence.
AD: his shot was off the whole year and then got injured.
Kuz: wildly inconsistent (even from the corner) and even then a mediocre shooter. Particularly poor this playoffs.
AC: Never been a good shooter, barely adequate, especially from mid-range.
Drummond: What shot?
The rest (Kieff/Wes/McLemore) don't matter - they won't (and didn't) get enough minutes to make a difference. They're situational players.
Bottom-line, team-shooting won't improve just because the team adds/replaces the likes of McLemore/Wes/Kieff. It will only improve if one or more of the top minute-getters are replaced i.e. Schroeder / Kuz / Drummond |

Outside of AD and LBJ not being 100% which is absolutely necessary for a championship, none of the guys outside of Matthews and maybe KCP, draw the gravity to actually open up driving lanes. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

I think last year's title gave management a bit of overconfidence that their formula was the best... I remember saying to someone that we shot better than average from three during the playoffs... and they countered that it was only a percent higher... but considering that playoff teams are superior... a 1% increase is an outlier number. We shot 38% against Houston... that makes a huge difference.
I don't see how you are going to beat Brooklyn... or GSW adding Klay and Wiseman back into their arsenal... Denver adding Murray back when your big guns are all averaging 34% or less from three and their big guns are all shooting 3 or 4% higher. I don't care how good your defense is, eventually the law of averages will catch up. I was watching a game the other night and both teams had taken about 30 three point shots and one team had made 8 threes and the other had made 16... and there was 24 points right there.
Obviously I'm not talking about completely forfeiting any effort to field a good defensive team... but look how bad we looked when AD was injured. It became clear to me that it was mostly AD that was the defense and he made mediocre defenders like Schroder look competent. I think Gobert adds similar value to Utah... so maybe you can hide a Lou Williams type player just to generate offense. Think of how Clarkson is flourishing in Utah... but Utah can afford to play him because of Gobert.
You have a player like AD so you can put one or two bad defenders on the team. In my opinion it would be easier to teach a good athlete but lousy defender how to play some defense than teach a bad shooter how to shoot.
Shooting is the way to go imo |

Like I said, they did this last season, and technically the year prior, and both times, the team struggled to shoot just average at an NBA level at different spots of the floor.
The solution isn't shooting unless the player can do something else, other than shoot. _________________ Resident Car Nut.
