For those asking for Gentry, Hammon, Vinson, Adelman, etc keep in mind they are currently under contract to their NBA teams. Sometimes they'll have an out in the contract if they are being promoted. But for a lateral move, there's no reason their current team would just let them leave like that.
As for number of coaches. Lakers minus Kidd plus Fizdale would be at 6. Some teams have as many as 10 assistants. Some have as few as 4. Only 3 assistant coaches can be on the bench during a game.

I remember this guy getting a technical foul as an Assistant Coach on the HEAT. It is the only time I have ever seen an Assistant Coach get a technical foul before. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

Pretty sure there has been instances of assistant coaches getting out of there deal to join another team that is pursuing them, so if we want a assistant coach from another team we can find a way.

Fiz is good. Maybe not head coach material, but def elite asst. coach. A winner and a coach that players like.
Oh, and his wife.
you know why it didnt work out for him in Memphis and NYK?
Not head coach material. Rave reviews about him as Spo’s right hand guy though.
But who is? I think we can say that about 70% of people holding head coaching jobs in the NBA right now. They are hired to be fired. It takes a little timing and luck to have security.
David Fizdale accepted Lakers assistant coach opening over more lucrative Indiana offer, @TheUndefeated learned. Former Grizzlies & Knicks coach preferred being reunited with LeBron, being home in LA and Lakers title chances. LeBron & Fiz communicated after latter agreed to deal.
So he's a token LeBron guy replacing a token LeBron guy, that's good to know. In all seriousness LeBron signing off on the move is a big deal as clubhouse cohesion is not something to overlook.
Pretty clear that this was a LBJ position which went from Kidd to Fiz. By all accounts, the Fiz offensive schemes were oversimplified in NY, so i don’t see him as helping the offense, which is still a need of the coaching staff.
The offense was fine when we won the championship. Maybe it's the players?
I thought we finished like 11th on offense that season, but i might be wrong.
The offense has never been fine with this team. LeBron and Davis got it done but as far as an offensive system where players got easy looks we never had one.
LeBron carried us but we can't expect that of him at his age, and Davis coming off a huge injury.

I hope we can all agree there is room for improvement. _________________ Darvin

Interesting quote from the Post article just before the 2019 season. The last incarnation of a Fiz offense. The article talks about a lot of things he wanted to implement but maybe it’s window to an offensive philosophy:
“Putting pressure on the rim is the No. 1 priority,’’ Fizdale said. “I think that’s what creates everything else. We got more 3-point shooting, so I expect for us to maybe shoot a few more 3s and make a few more. But if guys have good pull-up jump shots, I want them shooting that shot with confidence if they’re open.”
Maybe more action close to the basket with penetration from Lebron, Post work from AD, and the return of a vertical big in the dunkers spot.

There is AWALYS a need to get better.
Without effective outside shooters to provide space, any offensive schemes will have great difficulty. With KCP, Kuz and others not respected (hence not guarded, or the doubles coming from their defender) - only such much AD/LBG can do with five pair of eyes always on them
