I didn't see a thread about the Draft yet, so figured it might be adding a few of the early details on what's happening with the Lakers.
Key Dates
June 21-27: NBA draft combine
June 22: NBA draft lottery
July 7: Deadline for an early entry player to withdraw from the draft and maintain their collegiate eligibility
July 19: Deadline for an early entry player to withdraw from the NBA draft (5 p.m. EST)
July 29: 2021 NBA draft
Aug. 2: Teams can begin negotiating with free agents (6 p.m. EST)
Aug. 6: Teams can begin signing free agents (12:01 p.m. EST)
Aug 8-17: NBA Summer League 2021 (Las Vegas)
Current Draft Positions - #22 pick, no second round pick.
not gonna get invested. Well probably trade it and miss out on a young cheap talent that will help us (Bane last year would have been Ideal 3+D for now and future)
Thanks Mike. I liked the little I saw of Vrenz. There will come a day LBJ is
gone and he looks like someone that could run the point for us... _________________ Lakers need to build a freaking team !

If we do trade the pick, I wouldn't be surprised if LA dealt the pick but found a way to pick up a 2nd. If that goes down, hopefully they could land another Clarkson, Bryant or Tucker later in the draft. _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night.

Just curious. If we kept green and didnโt trade for D.S. Where would that put us now cap wise.
In terms of the Draft, my sleeper pick would be Nah'Shon "Bones" Hyland whom has step in the gym range
Or from the point guard position Miles McBride whom gets Gary Payton comparisons. Whom scored 16/5/4 on 44% shooting and 41% from three and 81% free throw line at West Virginia. Has some solid athleticism, a good three point shot and seems to really like playing defense. Or at least playing the passing lanes.
At shooting guard Chris Duarte, lockdown defender that averaged 17/5/3 on 53% from the field and 43% from three on 5 a game. The reason he's fallen low in the draft is because people consider his upside small given his age at the time he comes out of college.
If you want a point guard project, then the 6'8 Josh Giddey would be one. However he'll likely get drafted sooner.
Honorable Mention: Tre Mann out of Florida
Forward Prospects
You have, athletic freak Yves Pons. Whom stands at 6'7 215 pounds, defender whom is considered to have a 43-44 inch vertical. So we know his athleticism is off the charts. What about the rest of him?
He is known for his defense and his shot blocking and his scary athleticism, his jumper from three could use work, but his jumper from mid is solid. Whichever that means to you. But when he gets to the basket he's a solid and powerful finisher and he also shoots 78% from the free throw line, however he's raised his free throw shooting as well as his shot form each year he was in college. So that's good prospects. He is slated to go in the 2nd round and is a potential steal there, especially if his three point shot continues to come along. Could wind up being something of a more athletic Paul Milsap.
Some additional info about him:
Center Prospects
Since the Lakers seem to want to invest in centers in order to prevent AD from playing that position, here's two to keep your eyes on.
Neemias Queta out of Utah State
Whom stands 7 Foot(6โ11.25 without shoes) Weighing in at 245 Pounds with a 7 Foot 4 Wingspan(longest at this years combine) and a standing reach of 9โ4.5โ(also the longest at the wingspan). Known for his defense, athleticism and accuracy in the paint.
He averaged 15 PPG 10 RRB 2.7 AST 1.1 STL and 3.3 BLK in his season at Utah State.
Some additional information about Neemias
Quote:
@BryanKalbrosky
Since '08, only four D-I players had a DRB% > 20, ORB% > 10, BLK% > 10 and AST% > 10 over the course of their NCAA careers.
Joel Embiid
Karl-Anthony Towns
Robert Williams
Neemias Queta (2021 NBA draft prospect)
Queta has a rare blend of rebounding, rim protection and passing.
Overall Highlights
Here's some of his passing skills
Definitely a steal in the draft, and he slotted to go Late 2nd Round. But his skills say he shouldn't be drafted that low. A very worthwhile steal if the Lakers want to have him.
Now, as far as athleticism at the center position goes, the standout at the Combine was 6'10 250 lbs Jericho Sims.
Jericho is prospected to be a late 2nd round pick as well. But he may have increased his draft stock at the combine, posting a 44.5 inch Vertical to go along with his 7'4 wingspan.
Overall Highlights
From a potential standpoint he is a very solid get. But you'd need to understand that he's a project. An extremely athletic 6'10 big that has a solid work ethic. So understand what you're getting and all's good. His athleticism for his size is nothing to sneeze at. nor his willingness to improve. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

Andrew Bynum vibes, the hands and the drop-step post move. He can get better by working with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Sort of prospect they could develop during the title window.

A THT or Marc Gasol might be good, as well.
Hadnโt mentioned Zubac or Bonga too, both of whom have been regular starters in the league at a young age. Hopefully they see a player out there and can score a 2nd to pull them.
MJST - how does Queta compare to Damian Jones? Do you see a similar role if he joined the Lakers? _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night.

I'd say Jones had more natural athleticism, but was more one dimensional.
Queta has a better all around game, defensive IQ and developing mid/long range game. He also has some good athleticism, though not as naturally explosive as Jones. He has better passing ability as well which would be a plus in our offense and next to James.
Jones felt like he was destined to be a pick and roll big that played defense at his ceiling. Queta looks like he could be a good finisher, with an additional pick and pop game from both mid and three, and be a solid passer from the 5 position. So ultimately Queta has the potential to be a much more well rounded player, and he already is one if we compare the two when they came out of college.
Here's some combine highlights from Queta although they aren't much, cause it's not an actual game and more a scrimmage and 2 on 2 but nonetheless
In the scrimmage he scored 15 points and 8 rebounds on 6-9 from the field
That pick and pop to the three point line is what separates him from Jones, add that to his passing, rebounding and defense. Also the way he runs off the three point line to get to the basket. There's no reason he should be drafted in the 2nd round as projected. But he is definitely a steal and if I was the Lakers I'd be taking a LONG look at him.
The kind of center Thomas Bryant has developed into, is the kind of player I can see Queta becoming. I'd say Thomas Bryant is a good place to put his potential. Some people might go crazy and say that Jokic is his ceiling but it's best not to expect that from him. Others might say Bam as another ceiling. But I'd say Thomas Bryant is a good base idea and if he goes further, that's icing.
Here's an interview with him from the combine: (additional highlights at 1:28)
some more highlights
Defensive Highlights (block machine)
He'd definitely be a great fit on the team, especially next to LeBron and AD.
he is also definitely on the Lakers radar

Lakers have interviewed Neemias Queta! H/T
@BensHoops
The Lakers also interviewed three point sniper Corey Kispert from Gonzaga. But he's now slated to go in the Top 10 so unless the Lakers are trading up in the draft he's likely out of their reach. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

The kid has a 10 minute highlight package of taking 28 foot jumpers . No shake or speed, but stops on a dime with a quick release. I donโt see much to develop there. Is he better than Quinn Cook, who canโt even get minutes on our team?
Trey Murphy is taylor made for Lebron ball. Run to the corner and wait for the kick out pass.

Eh, that YT video doesn't sum up his game that well, but if that's all you see, those are also the same critcisims of Stephen Curry out of Davidson.
I'd easily take Hyland over Murphy. That's a no brainer thing. One guy can actually create shots, and even with his frame, it isn't a problem on offense.
One guy cannot create shots, even with a slightly bigger frame, but it's a problem on offense. _________________ Resident Car Nut.
There's no way Murphy is available at our pick right?
Teams may not see the offensive upside to take him earlier than the 20s. He is currently very limited off the dribble (heโs essentially a C&S guy or off-ball cutter) so he projects as a role player.
Heโs a guy who will excel playing on a contender with other creators but may struggle if asked to carry a load himself.
