Here is what I hope pans out, but I’m pretty sure we’ll still go with Gasol at the 5 to start. What are your thoughts? I feel like we have a lot of possibilities going in.

AD (24) - Dwight (14) - Gasol (10)
LeBron (24) - Melo (16) - AD (8)
Bazemore (24) - Ellington (18) - LeBron (6)
THT (24) - Monk (18) - Nunn (6)
Westbrook (32) - Nunn (16)

Don't matter. THT is the 4th highest paid player on the team now. Can't bench that anymore.

Since Nunn is the 5th highest paid he should also start!

Gasol (12), Dwight, (18), AD (18)
AD (14), Melo (16), LeBron (18)
LeBron (12), Baze (18), THT (18)
Ellington (20), THT (10), Monk (18)
Westbrook (32), Nunn (16)

Something like that. Don't see how Ariza cracks the rotation. I mean that's already 11 guys but I see all of them getting mins and I think THT gets big mins in that 6th man role... at least for the regular season

Dunn . Westbrook
Ellington . Monk . Bazemore
Ariza . LeBron
Melo . AD
Dwight . Gasol

Will need to slot in Larry as well.
This is gonna be an interesting call for Coach Frank.

No 3 point shooters.

A few reporters, who I'm sure have already heard some whispers from their team sources, have already posted the following projected depth chart:

Westbrook/Nunn
Ellington/THT/Monk
Lebron/Bazemore
AD/Ariza/Melo
Marc/Dwight

AD and Bron will move up a position as we hopefully downsize more often and I'm sure Ariza/Melo can play the 3 at times, so we'll probably be able to get those two + Nunn/THT/Monk each decent minutes even off the bench. Marc and Ellington end up as more of token starters for spacing?

How Vogel staggers Bron and Russ is going to be fascinating, but it's going to be refreshing to have so many bench lineup options open up with a playmaker on the floor at all times. We could sit Bron earlier in the first quarter, then bring him out with a Dwight/Bron/Ariza/THT/Nunn lineup in the second, just as an example. Or sit Russ and AD earlier, then go with Russ/Monk/Baze/Melo/AD. So much better than what we were forced to run in non-Lebron minutes last year...

That would be a shame since Ariza is probably a better option than Baze even at this age. I think he doesn't get as much run in the RS, but cracks the playoff rotation. Would love to see Dunn get more than 16 minutes and he was basically playing starter minutes for the Heat the past two years, but like you said, it's going to be a tough balancing act for Vogel. A good problem to have since we need to limit the star trio's minutes anyway during the RS grind, and injuries will inevitably hit. Lebron's minutes may (or at least shot) start hitting late career Tim Duncan territory anyway.

I’d give Monk a shot - if he figures it out our ceiling is absurd

Russ
Monk
LBJ
AD
Gasol

Prob close with LBJ at 4, AD at 5 and flex up THT at the 3

I think Ellington will be the odd man out when everyone's healthy unless Monk or Nunn underperform. Ariza skillset is a bit more unique and he isn't a liability on offense as much as Ellington will be on defense.

I look at it more from a minutes perspective since there's quite a bit of versatility in the lineup and it's not a given where AD will start:

AD, Bron, WB ~32 minutes
Dwight, Gasol, Melo, Ariza ~16 minutes

That leaves 80 minutes to split between THT, Nunn, Baze, Monk, and Ellington. I believe it will come out to 15-25 for 4 of them with one of them being the odd man out.

Thanks OP for making this thread, these type of threads are always my favorite even if they never go more than a few pages.

Nunn THT
West Monk Baze
Ellington Ariza
James Melo
AD Gasol DH

Going small ball every time West is on the floor. We will still win the glass while adding another perimeter defender and shooter. That and his elite playmaking are his biggest strengths as a player

I like these topics

Backcourt by committee, just surround WB at all times with shooters

WB 32 ------ Nunn 16
Baze 20 ---- Monk 16

LBJ 24 ------ Ariza 16 --- Baze 12

AD 24 ------- Melo 16 ---- LBJ 8
Gasol 16 -----DH 20 ----- AD 12

Something like the bold or whoever is hot closes (O or D) along with WB at PG , LBJ at PF and AD at Center

Starters (unless we sign Millsap or trade Schro for another legit starter)
Gasol
AD
LBJ
Baze
Russ

LBJ out:
Dwight
Melo
Ariza
Russ
Nunn/Monk (hotter hand)

Russ out:
AD
LBJ
THT
Ellington
Nunn/Monk

Close:
AD
LBJ
Ariza/Melo (defense versus offense)
Baze/Monk (defense versus offense though I think Monk's defense can be coached up)
Russ

It’s going to be nice to have more offensive weapons, I just hope Frank doesn’t go all in on defense. It’s important to find the right combinations.

I don't see Monk getting consistent minutes unless he can become an above average defender.

Gasol/Dwight probably play a combined 24 minutes a game. The other 24 at center will go to AD.
