Players paid the Vet Min:
- Carmelo Anthony
- Dwight Howard
- Kent Bazemore
- Trevor Ariza
- Malink Monk
- Wayne Ellington

Players paid the MMLE:
- Kendrick Nunn

THT's new contract: $10.5 Mill per year for 3 years. Behind only Lebron, AD and Westbrook for highest paid player on the team.

People last year and years before, always made cases for Players starting here because of purely financial reasons. Basically, because of how much they were being paid. So now, THT is the 4th highest paid player on the team. With that logic in mind, that means he should start next to Westbrook in the backcourt.

Does that happen now? Yes or no? Why or why not?

No. But he will eat a ton on offense.

Teams will be hesitant to help on his penetration since they'll be worried about shooters and our big 3.

And 1 on 1, he'll get his.

I personally don't think he should. He'd be a nice ball-handler off the bench. Plus, it's probably more beneficial for his growth to be able to run things with the second unit as opposed to being regulated to a spot-up shooter. And a shooter he is not.

Bazemore/Ellington is a much better fit with the starters. Edge to Bazemore for his defensive versatility.

Talen Manu Horton–Tucker
Talen Barkley Horton–Tucker
Talen Oakley Horton–Tucker

I agree with Zulu.. reading their reply I could sense LeBron molding him and encouraging him to lead the 2nd unit or be our TNT off the bench when necessary.

They basically chose THT over AC. If he's not projected to start, they made the wrong choice.

He needs to improve his 3 point shooting.

If he starts do we seek to go Harlem Globetrotters 9000 and clown the league

Bron
AD
Westbrook
THT
Dwight?

You are getting dunked on or your ankles broken every play against that gang 4 certain

Does THT's wingspan mean he has Jordan sized hands or larger?

No, he is not ready to be a starter on a team trying to make a championship run.

There are more experienced players on this roster who either shoot better or defends better than he does.

It's different in this case considering THT is still very young and green with an extremely bright future potentially. We are in absolute full on win now mode so THT getting big minutes and playing through mistakes is not going to happen consistently. Like last season, i'm sure he'll get plenty of opportunities and hopefully we see a more consistent version with less mental mistakes.

Biggest reason though is that unless he GREATLY improves his 3 and consistency there is no chance he starts imo. That doesn't mean he wont have a huge impact though because I believe he absolutely will, just not as a starter. Plus like Zulu said, as a bench player he'd be able to at least partially run things .

That fastbreak offense would be deadly.

just a few months ago people were screaming for Vogel to yank THT out of games for stinking it up with his bad play. Now he starts??
He shoots like 28% from 3... he's the last player who should be paired up with Westbrook and Lebron.
In fact I dont see where playing time comes from if we are really trying to contend over developing a raw 20 year old. For non-Lebron lineups we already have more polished players to take control of the offense in Westbrook, Nunn, Monk.

Besides Lebron and Ariza, we dont have anyone to guard big wing forwards. I think THT's role going forward will be to defend that space. He can also do some ballhandling duties when RW and LBJ are resting. Both are off the bench roles, so no, i dont see him starting.

Spacing doesn’t make sense. He will be great off the bench.

They don’t need to skip steps in his development. Unless he’s become a much improved shooter he is best used as an attacker off the bench.

Starting depends on his development, not on his contract.

He starts not because of his Salary, but because it makes sense. THT has 'All-Around' potential on both ends and in order for that to develop he needs playing time He's a match-up nightmare for any opposing 2-Guards especially in the paint and open floor, his length and strength are significant.

He would balance out an aged roster, and help to keep teams honest. What some might overlook is the advantage the Lakers would have against most teams where they can't afford to double them anywhere on the floor.

If you start Gasol over Howard, then the team has the potential to spread the floor more because Gasol can shoot the three. This unclogs the lane and allows Brodie and THT to slash and drive to the basket.

The spacing will be bad on the Lakers anyway you slice it, but to me THT is the obvious choice at the starting 2-guard unless we are able to acquire Buddy Hield in a S&T for Schroder in some miracle scenario.

Doubtful, maybe as the season progresses. He was a bad defender and his 3 pt shooting was dreadful. If he can correct one of these this offseason then I could see it.

Definitely not. Not unless he turns into a sharpshooter this summer. This contract should keep him content while he continues to gain experience off the bench.

No. We actually have a TON of competition at the guard spot.

WB/Nunn = 48 "PG" minutes.
Baze/Monk/THT/Wes = 48 "SG" minutes.

I think THT will actually have to steal some minutes at "SF," and we go with a fast 3 guard lineup.

Agree that they will be playing a lot of three guard lineups. With both Bazemore and THT having SF duties.

At the moment, I’m not sure there is a “best choice “ to start at SG. They will need to work it out in camp to find that best fit in the starting lineup. Seems to me they need a defender, cutter and 3pt shooter in the lineup. They have two primary ball handlers in WB and James already.

That being said, I do not see THT in that role. He seems more second unit ball handler then off ball shooter. He needs to keep woking hard on his shooting and defense. But IMO having him in the starting lineup is a waste.

The other thing to consider is the Schroder issue. If they choose to trade him for another player, that unknown player may be the final piece more then anyone currently on the roster. All depends on if , or who they can add.

To start the season Bazemore will start. He’s KCP replacement and has same type attributes and frame as KCP. We will need a defender but also a guy who can hit a 3 regularly, and our only guard like that is Bazemore. Through the year if THT shot is falling then yeah he will be the starter because I do think he’s our best perimeter defender and has All NBA potential as a defender

i dont think so. They probably overpaid a bit to keep and appease him.

our 2nd unit will be really good.

I personally start baze at 2. Apparently we did say he would have a big role for us.

is actually a pretty good defensive squad and baze should get some open 3's

imho

If he takes another major step in development this offseason and has a 3 ball, we might have an all star

If not THT, I think Wayne Ellington or Malik Monk as a better chance of starting than Bazemore.
