This is why I tend to believe Monk is going to get along with LBJ and Rondo quite well. This is a great time in his career to have mentors like this. I look forward to Monk's game, and watching how he evolves within this team as the season progresses.

Still can’t figure out why this guy signed here. Maybe he’s just betting on himself, but I feel he could have gone to a garbage team where he played major minutes.

Makes the Monk signing even more satisfying because he’s gonna ball out for us.

LeBron got his JR Smith reborn in the form of Monk, from slashing and sniping kid can do it all, hope he doesn't get deer in the headlights when it's clutch time since he's not played for a contender before.

Hopefully he's getting 20mpg and backup mins ahead of THT. Not because he's got higher upside necessarily, although his ceiling is still high, but because this fit off the bench is almost perfect.

Gasol (14), Dwight (16), AD (18)
AD (16), Melo (16), LeBron (16)
LeBron (14), Bazemore (18), THT (16)
Ellington (16), Monk (24), Nunn (8)
Westbrook (34), Nunn (14)

Something like that. THT might be ready for big mins and to be that 6th man but Malik's off ball ability + elite shooting makes him a better option whereas we can bring THT along a little slower and at the 3rd string SF.

Vogel has a lot of flexibility to shuffle the minutes, for example you have THT playing 16MPG at the 3 but he has the skill to play some 1 so the minutes can be handed out just fine.

Malik Monk came off the bench and in 20 MPG scored
11.7 PPG
2.4 REB
2.1 AST
0.5 STL
on 43.4% Field Goal
40.0% Three Pointer (on 5 attempts)
and 81.9% Free Throw
And is 22 years old

Now imagine if Caruso had done that what people would be screaming.

But Monk does that and people go "Well how's he gonna find minutes here!?"

I don't get it.

I thought the people asking how he's gonna find minutes is more out of concern that he won't get a fair shake because of the crowded back court? I know you can never have too much talent, especially on the perimeter, but did we really need to sign Baze? It's going to be annoying when he steals minutes from the young trio of THT, Nunn, and Monk, which is what's fueling the minutes discussion.

I don't trust Vogel to be able to handle giving out consistent roles either.

Will be interesting to see how THT does now, being the highest paid backup guard, with Dunn and Monk right there breathing down his neck.

Would love to see those guys in $100 side bet: pay each other $100 for a every shot missed perimeter jumper. Or more civil; guy who misses the most jumpers/free throws buys dinner that night.

It's going to be a long season so lots of minutes to go around...but IMO THT, Monk, Nunn need to play a lot....the guy I seen not playing much is Ellington. Old, one diminsional....to me he's like the Troy Daniels, Quinn
Cook signing....he's there if we need him...with Russ running the ball like Vogel said "Explosive, dynamic" he needs guys running with him...THT, Nunn, Monk even Baze fit the roll....Ellington not so much.

I'd be real surprised if Monk doesn't get minutes. My guess is we'll see 3 guards on the court quite a bit this season pushing the transition game; we'll see.

Monk will absolutely get minutes. His role won't be bigger than it was in Charlotte, but he'll give us something like 16-20mpg, which, for what he brings, is perfect

Monk's issue is his defense and IQ. You probably can not put Monk out there with THT, as you're gonna be too inexperienced. Ideally, we figure out lineups that when the big 3 play, we have 1 out of the more athletic younger legs out there with them - such a Monk or THT.

You want to believe that Monk (and THT) will be able to hide some of their weaknesses and develop more easily around the big 3. Defenses will lock into the big 3 and leave them open. Monk is a player that can go off.

This is why, despite his IQ and defensive shortcomings so far in his career, I hope Vogel gives him a shot to get minutes with the big 3. He is easily the best 4th option we would have around the big 3. For one, I can not see anyone else on the roster replace what the best version of KCP did (The best, not the MIA version of KCP). Monk, can. The other candidate is Nunn, but I like Monk's shot a lot more.

I hope training camp is all about teaching Monk how to play the right way in the Laker system, in terms of his D. Live with the bonehead plays and give him time to develop. Think about it this way. Dwight, AD, Bron, Westbrook. Do you like your chances of Monk's weaknesses being limited with that group, or do you prefer it being exposed on a 2nd unit where there aren't as many superstars or defensive potential. Dunno why, but I feel we out to give Monk a chance to get minutes around the big 3. The upside of having him there and developing over the season > Bazemore. Bazemore, to me. Could be another Wesley Matthews. Solid, but not a guy you can say has talent to start in the league anymore. Monk, actually has the talent.

I'm excited to see Monk in action, but he's really got to work on showing some serviceable chops on D. Hoping we see him respond to the vets around him and the coaching staff. I agree, Wolf, getting him slotted in with some of the vets will help as they will be in his ear on every miscue.

He's a money three shooter -- 53% and 58% from the corners. (Ellington actually kind of sucked from the corners last year but was excellent from the wings.) Got to see if you can make it work... I'm a bit pessimistic that it will, but excited to see how it plays out. He's young still, has the physical tools, just needs to put in a lot of work on that end. If he can get to average on D that would be big (just like if THT can get to average on three shooting).
