Upon formal completion of a buyout with the Detroit Pistons, center DeAndre Jordan intends to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, sources tell ESPN. Jordan would have to first clear waivers to become a free agent.
Again, Pistons plan is to negotiate a contract buyout with the DeAndre Jordan and allow him to become a free agent, sources tell ESPN. In that scenario, the Lakers will be a serious contender, sources tell ESPN.

Lots of discussion in the FA thread but there are more pressing needs than adding to the old slow big position. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

You would think they would want a stretch big option (other than the limited time Davis is going to play at center). You would think Gasol would be the natural fit, he can shoot from the perimeter, pass, and he is already here.
Howard is back, basically plays the position we used McGee and Drummond for, so I would say that is a equal trade-back.
Something must be going on, and the Lakers have some discontent with Gasol. Probably some at the player - team level, some of it in the front office. Either they don't like Gasol, or Gasol doesn't like being regulated as a short stint player.
Gasol wants this last little payday, doesn't want to retire, and maybe he sees the letters ME in TEAM, and wants a prominent role and a Kareem like sendoff from the Lakers.
Jordan is Jordan, sort of a less skilled Howard at this point. Do we want the three headed monster - another six fouls to go with some rebounds, defense and dunks? I don't know who else is out there, unless the idea is to trade Gasol for another wing out there making the same money... Wish we had kept Morris. _________________ LAKERS 2019-2020: NBA World Champions!

Does he still play defense? If he don’t, I’d rather get Aldridge, he don’t play D either but he can at least make jumpers and spread the floor. _________________
To put it into perspective, the Nets who were desperate for centers could not play him because he was so bad. On a team with 3 superstars, where all he has to do is catch lobs and play a little defense, he could not get playing time.
Hard pass. Theres no reason to think he would do any better with us in a similar role.

You know how it is. He's a "name" based on his performance of 4 or 5 years ago, and some fans get hot and bothered by any name and think he'll still perform as he did in his prime.

Pass.. signing DJ would be Drummond 2.0
Except worse
Significantly worse imo.. I hope the Lakers pass on him personally.. I know a few people that are "currently" Nets fan and they absolutely hated him and are celebrating him being gone. Someone mentioned how it frequently looks like his feet are in cinderblocks and he is a good entire 1/2 second late to even start his jumps much of the time. I started paying attention and it was def. the case on some plays. Gasol is even an upgrade for our team over him and i'm completely fine with him leaving but let's not take a huge step backwards to add a guy who's a much worse version then Dwight who we already have.
I'd rather see a younger energetic guy in there if they don't/can't get any worthy floor spacing big currently since whoever they get wont be playing many minutes the majority of games anyways. Then there's a possibility of a small trade or the more likely buyouts late in the year.

The Nets wanted him gone a long time ago but KD stopped them. Now they got KD under contract they’re looking to end the relationship with DJ _________________ Coach Vogel, Kidd, Hollins

A few pro-Jordan comments, 1 of them said they hope Jordan stays away from the Lakers because he can help a contending team you should fast forward that link to Car54.

DeAndre Jordan is tempting, but it looks like he isn't that mobile anymore, and with our style of play we need a center who will run the floor on offense and be able to rotate over to block shots.
I really wish we could replace Gasol with a center in his 20s who can hit 3s and play some D. That alone would make our team seem not nearly as old.

Brook Lopez isn’t in his 20s but what you said perfectly describes what he brings at the C position, still pissed off we got rid of him so fast as we did.
So basically only the thread starter wants to keep him while the rest thinks he’s useless. _________________ Coach Vogel, Kidd, Hollins

Brook is a lot like our guy Gasol good post defender. Lumbering center who shoots 3s. They also beat that rim running center in Phx _________________ Coach Vogel, Kidd, Hollins

The first comment in my post was a brain fart lol nonetheless a mod praising DeAndre Jordan should add some value, btw it’s been fun talking hoops with you today... have a good night
I am not going to get too worked up about the 14th or 15th man on the roster. I don't think he should be getting any minutes here though. He would be by far our worst center.
If the Lakers feel the need to sign him I would at least make his contract unguaranteed. In case someone else becomes available later. Or maybe G leaguer impresses. Damian Jones became available during last season. We just unfortunately didn't keep him while the Kings got him to sign a 2 year minimum deal.
