I know members felt that the Lakers may follow suit, with the nets, warriors, etc.. Good news to me.

Quote:
One of the biggest questions heading into the 2021-22 NBA season was if the league would require players to get vaccinated against COVID-19, and on Tuesday we got our answer. The league will not require vaccinations for players, according to Baxter Holmes and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. The National Basketball Players Association has reportedly refused to budge from its stance against mandatory shots for players.

While players won't be required to get vaccinated, a vast majority already have been. Around 85 percent of the league's players are vaccinated, a league spokesman said recently, via the New York Times. Unvaccinated players will be subject to a much stricter set of health and safety protocols compared to their vaccinated peers.

I read the decision as regardless of how this may have played out, there is no way the union would sign off on a mandate.

I think Bazemore and Dwight are both anti-vax, or were at one point. Hopefully they changed their minds and got vaccinated

The issue for those who do not get vaccinated is the possibility of missing games. If that particular player is a real core piece of a team that they rely upon, things could get really complicated then.

Personally, I think it will always be a matter of personal choice, in this case that personal choice should be yes.

They should just play all the games outdoors for a season.

I wonder if Schroeder's dance with the protocol was a contributing factor of why he fell flat in the playoffs and ended up a Celtic.

And if more and more games need to get postponed or more and more players miss time because of player catching covid. I wonder how long that will stand.

And if that player is around their teammates or an opposing team then what happens?

"Referees and all team and arena personnel who interact with players are required to get vaccinated

The league won't test fully-vaccinated players regularly this season, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Earlier this month, the league told teams that new local COVID-19 requirements in New York and San Francisco regarding vaccine requirements will be enforced for members of the teams in those cities -- Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks -- including players, unless there is an approved medical or religious exemption, per ESPN."

So if you're playing the Nets, Knicks or Warriors, if you aren't vaccinated, you don't play, I assume.

Not quite. This applies to players on the Nets, Knicks, and Warriors. It does not apply to visiting teams. This was clarified a week or two ago.

The vaccine doesn't prevent you from getting covid.

KAT calls out anti-vaxxers after losing his mother to Covid:

“Every day I see a new excuse why people ain’t getting the vaccine. Ya starting to get creative with these “reasons” though and it’s actually funny… It never matters to people until it happens to them. I hope no one has to deal with what I’ve had to and still continue to deal with.”

He knows, like the rest of us know, that they don't have a why.

A "why" you don't agree with.

Regardless like cathy78 says its their decision and that's really all it comes down to.

LG showing its boomer values again in this thread.

People saying it’s “their choice,” understand that they do have a choice even if there’s a mandate. They can sit out the season. Tired of this crap from borderline anti-vaxxers.

The NBA isn't mandating its players into getting it though that's the point of this thread.

If they could have gotten LeBron to go along with this they would've but he's balking at it which IMO is the only reason it hasn't been mandated.
