Not sure if you guys have noticed but his shooting form during work outs is different it looks like he changed it, Nash didn’t become a good shooter until his 30’s maybe the Lakers training staff can work there magic with Russ.
Thats not true, nash was always about 40% from 3 every season, go look at his stats.
Thanks, I just looked it up but still it’s encouraging that Westbrook is starting to change his form to become a more effective shooter, even if he shoots 35% from 3 that is still very solid.

If Rondo could improve his 3 point shooting later in his career maybe Russ can too.
Yup
Maybe but I think its more likely that the shooters and bigs around him have career bests. If you're going into this season thinking Russ shoots league average... idk about that

IMO it’s not his form . It’s selection
I think it's both.
His shot selection has always been bad.
His shooting form is also unique, and has some bad mechanics that contribute to his inconsistency.
It would be great if he has an unexpected improvement as a shooter, but I'm not counting on that.

His shot selection wouldn't matter much if he was a great shooter. But he's not. It's more his form, or more specifically, he has a slight hitch when releasing the ball at the top of his release. He doesn't release his jumper as much as he tries to measure it.
It's not a pure shooter's release. I've seldom seen the shots he makes swish through the net. But I'm with the if Rondo can improve his shot so can Westbrook camp.

It was fun reading your post. I posted mine almost the same time. I initially started to state that it was both, then went with his form and mechanics.

Assuming he’s willing to curtail the “I’m the man” pull up threes, I expect Russ to have a career best year shooting threes, though that still probably tops out a little worse than league average.
If you look at the data, he shoots best on catch-and-shoot, wide open threes between 7 to 15 seconds on the shot clock. You get those when someone else breaks down the defense and sets you up. He’s played with great players, but amone them only Harden could be described as an elite setup guy. The year Russ played in Houston, D’Antoni ran Harden high PnR, dishing to the roll man or the corners almost exclusively. So I’m not even sure Russ has a good setup in that situation either given where he operates best. _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night.

Play better defense.
Improve his shooting. Take his time shooting for accuracy.

Westbrook has yet to show he is a championship type player.
In your opinion what is that?
If you mean why is that, I'd like to know also. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Russ's tribute video from OKC. I remember being really moved by this when that happened, and now he's a Laker.. Huge class act and I love that we have another high character star.
And then the tribute was followed by the most unenthusiastic announcement of Harden LOL
We need him to be more choosey on shot selection from three. Just getting rid of the early shotclock threes from him would raise his percentage. He shot 21.7% from three with 18+ seconds left on the shotclock. There's enough volume there that it bumps him up a couple points just getting rid of that. Vogel/LeBron/AD need to get him to be more selective. We've got a wealth of options offensively, be more selective. I'd repeat it more if it would help.

His buddy in OKC, Durant, didn't either until he teamed up with other championship players at GS. Perhaps the union of Westbrook with two championship studs like LeBron & AD ,and a few who have won the who enchilada, might do the trick.
Wizards are gonna end up regretting the trade in a very big way, they got very solid role players, but Westbrook is a straight killer, looks like he finally realizes that he needs to change the way his shot selection looks.

In Houston he didn’t shoot many 3s and drove to the basket. That consistent with AD playing the 5. _________________ Coach Vogel, Kidd, Hollins

You won't find a bigger Westbrook fan than me. He and Jimmy Butler have been my favorite 2 non-Lakers for a long time now.
With that said. This doesn't mean much.
He never shoots like that during the game. When he pulls up from 3. It isn't a set shot. Even alot of times on catch and shoot opportunities. He's just sooo amped up. It's in his DNA. So instead of set shots like this video. He'll be shooting jump shots.
And instead of the full follow through you are seeing in these set shot clips. He won't follow through and use a quick wrist fling at the peak of his jump. To compensate for the extra energy accompanying his high elevation jumper. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”

I doubt they regret it. It didn’t work out over there and next year they have to pay Beal. _________________ Coach Vogel, Kidd, Hollins
