Saw Mary J in concert at Universal Amphitheater in the early 2000's. I'm very much looking forward to this, and, I suspect, many dudes my age are.

It'll be good to introduce these young whippersnappers to what rap was when it was first introduced. Told stories about the hood without all the obscenities and vulgarities. Regulate (1994) Warren G - Regulate (Official Music Video) ft. Nate Dogg

Totally did. That was spectacular. Still not Prince captivating the crowd in the rain, but amazing all the same.

Please do t call me
A hater but I love all music….but I like when entertainers actually perform live.
U2 performed live
Paul McCartney performed live

From what I saw, much of the half time was lip sync’d
Especially Eminem - it was obvious. Mary J’s first song was the record, not her singing.

Is it that hard to perform live?

Seemed like Dre and Snoop may have been live.

I agree. Hate syncing.

Unfortunately tape miming has plagued these shows for a while now.

Yep, Prince is still #1.

But this was fantastic. Even my dad, who has no idea who any of the people were and doesn't know anything about hip hop and R&B, was doing a cute dance sitting on the couch.

I love that! It's a perfect example of how genres can transcend when in the right hands.

My favorite part was when Dre paid homage to Tupac on the piano and Eminem was doing the Kap kneel.

But that was a legendary performance...to me the best halftime show.

Don’t feed the troll. It distracts him from his efforts to chase mythical creatures and ETs . . . Oh wait, that’s redundant.

I get it though. So many potential pitfalls to what is essentially a one off hit and run production of epic scale. I can see why they’d go with prerecords. It’s half time show. It’s not like the audience paid to go see the artists do a real show.

And that’s why Prince’s performance stands out.

You're right of course, just because I don't like Rap, doesn't give me the right to denigrate those that do!

(Oh and for you Rap music fans...'denigrate" means "to put down"...)

50 pounds hanging on the ceiling lol, I do love the nostalgia but expected sooooo much more out of this crew. The cameraman cutting away from Snoop everytime he start crypt dancing lol, sharp Rams Xmas sweater tho. The bad lip sync, gotta keep the mouth moving fellas, I mean Em!
They each should’ve performed couple of their hits and not just one, like JLo and Shakira, make it a ‘performance’
Grade: C for my 90s HS days (still love Mary J)

I love the music and performers.....but I thought the show was a massive letdown. How can you build up hype for the show so much, then go out there and lip sync.....and make it so obvious?

Eminem has a history of walking on stage and stealing the whole show.....but wow his performance was pathetic. Finally, IMO California Love just does not work without Tupac. Dre, Snoop and Mary J. are all in their 50's now....and it is a tough genre to pull off at that age.
