He deserves to have his jersey retired. Three straight finals appearances, two titles, a huge fourth quarter in game 7 against Boston when Kobe was having an off night. I think it's a no brainer. |

Fitting to have it right next to Kobeâs jerseys |

One of the all time greats.
Thank you Pau. We were blessed to have you rep the Lakers. |

Very much admire Pau Gasol both on and off the court. Pure class. |

Eat it haters!
I mean, congrats Pau! |
Many Lakers fans would have been extremely disappointed if this didn't happen, especially with how close he was to Kobe.
He was more than deserving, it had to happen. |
Inevitable. But I thought the Lakers protocol was to wait until the player was inducted into the Naismith HOF? |
They have already hanged some guy's two numbers on December 2017, long before he was inducted to the HoF. If something is locked, why do the waiting? I'm happy they changed that. |
For most of the locked players, I'm pretty sure their jerseys were retired prior to their HOF induction. That's how I remember it for Magic, Kareem, Worthy, Shaq, Kobe. For Goodrich and Wilkes, theirs were post-induction since they weren't locks. I think West, Baylor, and Wilt had theirs retired on the same night in the 80s, but not 100% sure. The Minneapolis players were honored in 2002. _________________ Smrek 2, Nevitt 1, Barkley 0 |

Pau deserves the honor, unquestionably. He's clear lock for HOF, so team won't wait to get that done.
The policy on coaches is more interesting. From what I can recall, other franchises have honored their greats with banners or something similar. Honorees: Holzman, Ramsay, Sloan, Auerbach, Jackson. Lakers have Kundla on the Minny banner. _________________ Smrek 2, Nevitt 1, Barkley 0 |

Pau's press conference.
Muchas gracias a Pau! That's about it for my Spanish. Does anyone, probably someone who appreciates the man as much as I do, care to translate?
I do not know exactly why I love Pau as much as I do, but I know it was not just for his play. He seemed like such a thoughtful, fully realized human, always seemed to be trying to learn and develop himself, and I think mostly because he wanted to develop his humanity. So grounded too. Wish we coulda had one more stint here. I guess we will when his jersey goes up. |

How the heck was this thread only 8 pages? DWIGHT HOWARD Officially Back Part III Thread is 7 already, and Westbrook trade is 46. Wonder how many LGers were there back then vs. now. |

Wow. I am going to have to take special note of Dr. Laker/Dancing Madsen posts.

Remember when they got Pau Gasol? Remember how the team looked in that first game against New Jersey?
I hadnât watched Memphis at all. I didnât know the kind of player that he was. That first game against the Nets, I couldnât believe the Lakers got him for what they got. He was legitimately a top 5 big man in the entire league.
Anyways, love Pau. An all time great and a great ambassador off the floor.
Lakers weâre extremely lucky to have such a class act make such a significant contribution to the organization. Jersey retirement is an absolute no brainer. |

I love Pau. He was a great player, great teammate and great human being....
I didn't like how the Lakers FO treated him towards the end...I hope the jersey retirement heals any of those wounds....he was constantly danged in trades and stuff as I recall....but, that was then....
Congrats Pau....he will be in the Hall of Fame for sure, especially when people like Vlade and Sabonis are in there. He was better than both of those dudes, in my opinion.
20,000+ points, 10,000+ = Hall of Fame numbers |
