Quietly, the Lakers have built a little bit of a prospect pool. They now have THT (20), Sekou (20), Reaves (23) and Monk (23) under contract. They still have an open 2-way spot to work with too.

In 2022 we have no picks. In 2023 we have a 1st (lesser of ours/NOH) and two 2nds (own/Chicago’s). In 2024 we will likely have no 1st (convey to NOH at their option) and one 2nd (lesser of MEM/WAS). Beyond that we have all of our 1sts and are net even on 2nds (down one in 2026, up one in 2028).

Given what we gave up for Davis, and how Pelinka has used the last few 1sts to grease the skids in deals, that is not bad at all. The other three primary contenders, Milwaukee (Jrue), Brooklyn (Harden) and the Clippers (George) have emptied the clip on draft picks for the majority of this decade to build their teams.

Nunn (26) & Davis (28) are young Vets...

I don’t understand this signing, we’re in win now mode this is clearly a development guy. He is awkward & more of a big forward defender. There is no way he could guard SF spot cause his feet aren’t quick enough to guard. A Cacook type player 2 years away if that.

I don’t know why they just don’t sign Ennis to 15th spot he’s an NBA player who can do everything. When buyouts come cut a guy & I don’t know why Jeanie is sweating paying a little more tax on this team who has already been hit with multiple injuries. I’m not sure why she’s being cheap on this tax thing but willing to pay 3 guys over 100 million, I believe Warriors,Nets perhaps another team who pay the extra tax. Her father never hesitated to do so!!!

You're getting worked up over nothing.

This is a two-way contract. Meaning this player splits time between the G-League team and the NBA team. Each team is allowed to have two players on a two-way contract. There's a limit to how much time the player(s) can spend with the NBA team, but they can be "called up" and play on a given night if injuries/illness/rest preclude the NBA team from having 12 players dressed for a game.

The important distinction of a two-way contract player is that these two spots DO NOT count toward the 15 man roster. The purpose for these contracts is for this exact reason, to help develop young/promising players who may otherwise have been out of the league and playing in Europe.

By the way, Alex Caruso was someone that got developed in the G-League - and signed with the Lakers on a two-way contract. How'd that one work out?

It didn't work out LOL. Where is Alex now? You burned yourself 🤣

Sekou Doumbouya (illness) questionable for Lakers Friday
Los Angeles Lakers forward Sekou Doumbouya is considered questionable to play Friday in the team's game against the Phoenix Suns.

WHAT IT MEANS:
Doumbouya is dealing with a non-COVID illness, and his status is in doubt for Friday's tilt against the defending Western Conference champs. Keep an eye on his status over the next 24 hours.

In 56 games with the Pistons last season, Doumbouya averaged 5.1 points and 2.6 rebounds in 15.5 minutes.

With Lebron's injury Sekou may need to step up. Can't rely on Melo for heavy minutes.

Did the coach call him up and he's playing?

Don't know. It is just matter of activating him to the 13 player roster for game day.

I didn't know he was only 20. That's dope. I would give him a shot.

Hopefully what he showed us tonight was real and not a fluke.

Would be awesome if he turns out to be the 3-and-D forward we really need.

Just a FYI before this blows up to the next Ariza/ShannonBrown haha…dude can’t play in the playoffs for us unless his 2way deal gets converted to a standard NBA contract.

And yes, I’m currently on the juice…we are making the playoffs….right?

But he should be able to play in the play-in tourney I presume? Because that's likely the only way we make the playoffs

Great observation, but unfortunately the play-in tourney is classified as AFTER the regular season concludes.

So for Sekou or any other 2-way player, they’re capped at 50 regular season games unless they officially get converted to standard NBA contracts by the final day of the regular season (April 10, 2022).

Quote:
For the 2021-22 season, the Play-In Tournament will take place April 12-15, 2022, between the last day of the regular season on April 10 and the start of the playoffs on April 16.

FYI: the 50 game regular season limit along with the playoff restriction was lifted temporarily last season during the 71 game abridged COVID season. Those rules are back in play for the 2021/22 regular (82 game schedule) season.

He should be an asset for the G League team.

Lakers Sign Sekou Doumbouya To Two-Way Deal, Waive Jay Huff
Quote:
Doumbouya, 21, was the 15th overall pick in the 2019 draft and spent the first two years of his NBA career in Detroit.
However, he struggled to score efficiently during his time with the Pistons, averaging 5.6 PPG and 2.8 RPG on .384/.254/.691 shooting in 94 games (17.3 MPG).

Huh. Interesting. Our two way players have really been a revolving door this season. We never even really played Huff. Does that mean he goes back to SB Lakers or is he just out of luck for now?

Will be interesting to see if the league reverts back to allowing Two-Way players in the playoffs. That was the case for the 2021 but was reverted back to normal this season.
