Yuck... This game was over early as the Lakers fell back 36-14 in the first quarter. There was a stretch where the Blazers outscored them 21-2 as the Lakers went scoreless for more than 5 minutes.

There’s really not a lot to analyze here. They’re missing too many players as AD couldn’t compete a full game, and the Lakers just have too little continuity to survive both he and LeBron out at this time of the year.

The Lakers trimmed the lead to 15 by halftime, then trimmed it further to 11 early in the third before giving up a 9-0 run and the Blazers extended that with a 42-point third quarter. The Laker playmakers (Rondo and Russ) were awful during the quarter.

The Lakers fell 106-90, but were actually a +17 during the garbage time. That made the score look closer than it was.

Davis -- -- He went without a taped up hand to start this game, then disappeared into the locker room. Out for the rest of the game with a stomach illness. So that was that. Lakers barely stood a chance with him. Without him? Forget it. The Stats: He scored 2 points on 1-5 shooting to go with 3 offensive boards and 1 foul in 7 minutes. He was a -11.

Westbrook -- -- Ugly. The 6 turnovers to go with his 6 assists certainly stick out. We needed better playmaking without LeBron for the offense to flow. That didn’t happen. Shooting in this game was awful. Just 8 points on 1-13 attempts. HIs only make was a catch and shoot wing three. He airballed a pull-up elbow jumper. I think that’s the second or third one of those we’ve seen this season. That left wing bank shot he loves wasn’t there as he clanked a couple there. Finishing around the rim? Nope. Some fouls drawn on finishes. But he also had some of his turnovers on wild drives, just chucking passes out of bounds or getting caught in the air and chucking it up. You hope that they get reps even in a game like this where you build chemistry on one or two plays. Looking at my notes, I don’t see a lot of that. He had a lob for Dwight off one set play, but beyond that just not a lot. The Stats: He scored 8 points on 1-13 shooting (1-3 from three, 5-8 from the line) to go with 9 boards, 6 assists, 2 steals, 6 turnovers and 3 fouls in 29 minutes. He was a -20.

Bazemore -- -- This was the kind of game where you need someone to step up and have one of those 20-point outings from your role players. (Hard to imagine this season from him, but he can drop those.) Maybe if he was being defended by us. In any event, our playmaking and offense was so poor, he’s not going to get enough shots up. There are certain players who can be a barometer for how well the team is executing and he may be one of those. He only had one attempt from three. Just three attempts total in this one, his only making coming on a drive attacking Nurkic. Ideally, we’re getting a lot of drive and kicks to our open shooters. The Stats: He scored 4 points on 1-3 shooting (0-1 from three, 2-2 from the line) to go with 3 boards, 1 assist, 1 turnover and 3 fouls in 19 minutes. He was a -14.

Bradley -- -- He had a great first minute or so. Threaded a bounce pass to DJ for a dunk (he’d later hit him with a lob, as well). He curled into the lane, balled faked and hit a floater. He pushed out a loose ball and hit a 19-footer. Then he went silent for the rest of the night. Odd little aggressive burst there. Good effort defensively, but with Portland you need all five guys to be on the same page. The Stats: He scored 4 points on 2-5 shooting (0-1 from three) to go with 3 boards, 3 assists and no fouls in 23 minutes. He was a -29.

Jordan -- -- Not an ideal team to play him against with good pull-up shooting guards. It sounded like the plan was to trap the guards, but that didn’t happen. “We pulled back on our double teams because we weren’t executing well enough,” Vogel said. Some dunks for DJ off a couple passes from Bradley. He also had an offensive board finish. The Stats: He scored 6 points on 3-5 shooting to go with 9 boards, 1 steal, 1 block, 1 turnover and 1 foul. He was a -24.

Anthony -- -- Without LeBron (and AD), the looks just weren’t there like we’ve seen for him. He missed all four of his three and is, what, 1-16 from three on the road if I recall. A lot of post work and midrange attempts. He had Powell in the post and was aggressive there for a couple of scores. But we really need the offense collapsing and Melo floor spacing at the wings for open threes. That’s when we’re at our best, but the team had no real flow in this one. The Stats: He scored 12 points on 4-14 shooting (0-4 from three, 4-4 from the line) to go with 2 boards, 1 assist, 2 blocks and 2 fouls in 27 minutes. He was a -20.

Howard -- -- We had to run both of our bigs some extended minutes tonight with AD unable to continue. The team didn’t do so bad with Howard out there, just -5 compared to DJ’s -24. He got stripped a bit under the hoop in this one and tallied 3 turnovers. Credit the Blazers for some good help and hands otherwise he was going to have several easy buckets. They were just on top of him when we were passing. Good job from the FT line by Dwight. The Stats: He scored 11 points on 3-6 shooting to go with 7 boards, 1 steal, 1 block, 3 turnovers and 2 fouls in 15 minutes. He was a -5.

Reaves -- -- Hey, rook. Go out and guard Dame. Also, we aren’t going to send any help. Kind of fun watching him go at it against Dame. He actually beat Lillard to the spot and drew a charge in the first half. Great anticipation, footwork and commitment to the charge there. Not something you see from a rookie. Austen struggled a bit with his shot tonight. He hit a three early on when Russ found him. (One of his threes what a 60-footer that hit rim.) He’d later knock and other down in garbage time. He also had a nice attack off the dribble, stopped on a dime, lost his man with a series of pivots and scored a layup. He ran the point for our extended garbage time. We played pretty even with the Blazers when he was on the court. In fact, if you look at the garbage time, Doumbouya was a +17 and Reaves was, too, for the game. So the 17 other minutes Reaves was on the court, we were a +0. The Stats: He scored 12 points on 3-9 shooting (2-5 from three, 2-2 from the line) to go with 6 boards, 3 assists, 1 turnover and 1 foul in 25 minutes. He was a +17.

Monk -- -- The garbage time minutes were probably good for him to get a little looser. He had a little more space and his shot started fall some. Still, some wild moments on drives or passes that were sloppy (4 turnovers). He did block a perimeter shot which was nice to see. We really needed one role players to go off in this game and didn’t get it. This is where maybe THT gives you a lift. The Stats: He scored 13 points on 5-11 shooting (3-7 from three) to go with 4 boards, 3 assist, 1 steal, 1 block and 4 turnovers in 22 minutes. He was a +22.

Ellington -- -- A lot of misses early from three. We got him a layup off a UCLA cut type of play and then he seemed to find his shot a little more after that. Good to just get him some run even in a blowout. Coach needs to see him playing so he can compare him to the other options. We need that shot to loosen up and start connecting at a high rate. The Stats: He scored 8 points on 3-8 shooting (2-7 from three) to go with 4 boards, 1 turnover and 2 fouls in 25 minutes. He was a -6,

Rondo -- -- Some wild drives that weren’t even close. He’s a break in case of emergency guard for this team and unfortunately we’ve had to see a lot of him. Just the state of the team right now. I would kind of hope that THT becomes our emergency guard for playmaking. You’ve also go Nunn. But not having those guys right now just really, really hurts this team. The Stats: He scored 2 points on 1-6 shooting (0-2 from three) to go with 3 boards, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 turnover and 1 foul in 13 minutes. He was a -19.

Huff -- -- Some run for Huff in garbage time. He missed a forced three. He also had a good reach on D to force a turnover. Not much else. The Stats: He didn’t score on 0-1 shooting from three to go with 2 boards, 1 assist and no fouls in 8 minutes. He was a +17.

Doumbouya -- -- He made the most of his garbage time run tonight. One of the reasons this game didn’t look like a 25- or 30-point blowout. He was making things happen. He had an offensive board in a crowd and scored a layup. He swished a wing three on a kickout. He attacked off a loose ball for another layup. Monk set him up for a layup off a drive and dish. Defensively, a good challenge on the three line forced an airball. He had a nice rotation where he blocked/stripped a man to get a stop and was fouled for FTs. The Stats: He scored 10 points on 4-4 shooting (1-1 from three, 1-2 from the line) to go with 4 boards, 2 steals, 1 block, 1 turnover and 1 foul in 8 minutes. He was a +17.

Vogel -- -- Key Moment: That 21-2 first quarter run the Blazers went on set things up. The Lakers would cut the lead to 11 in the third, but that was as close as they’d dig out of that hole.

Key Substitution: Reaves. Anytime he came in, the game at least had some interest.

Key Stats: The three ball in this one -- 87 attempts between the two teams.. Blazers shot just 6-25 from three in the first half. Laker percentage wise were worse at 2-10 and shot just 27% from the floor overall. The Lakers made 7-22 in the second half. The Blazers, though, that ball was going up. They shot 15-55 from three. We’d finish shoot 28%, they’d shoot 27%. Sheesh.

Better 5-5 at this point in the season, than 5-5 going into the playoffs playing like trash.

As said already many times, we need to find the right players around the big 4 of AD/Melo/Bron/Westbrook.

Always saw this as a loss. Not playing well going into the game, then had no Bron, and AD was not properly available either.

Really need THT & Nunn to come in and play a big role for this team.

Wouldn't have even been mad if DB took the night off. The Lakers did after all.

Getting pretty sad. I'm kinda wondering if I'll ever see the intended team and coach play together before some blow up occurs.

So I was watching some college football last night when I realized the Lakers game was on. I looked on ESPN and the score was Portland 40 LA Lakers 20. I checked the box score and AD was 1 for 5, Russ was 0 for 5 and Melo was 0 for 4. I am sorry to say I went back to watching college football.

Good to see Vogel call out the FO and players. His job is on the line and he seems to want to go out fighting.
