And I'm not personally stoked on it but anyway

Per Shams

Staples Center – the iconic home of the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers among others since 1999 – will have a new name beginning Dec. 25: Crypto.com Arena. It’s believed to be the largest U.S. venue naming rights deal to date.

I didnt ever care for Staples Center as a name. I care even less for crypto.com arena as a name. Doesn't quite roll off the tongue. $700M sounds big time though.

Crypto.com is a terrible name, but for the right price, I guess anything sound nice.

Staples Center will always be Staples Center to me. Just like the Forum was always Fabulous and never Great Western. I'm gonna still say Eskimos f your Inuites. Dwarfs will always be midgets to me.

So glad that the Dodgers never succumbed to this cooperate bs.

Dodgers Stadium, Fenway, Wrigley......stay you.

This is great news for me. I’m still a die hard Lakers fan, but I’ve been spending a lot of time with Crypto and NFTs the past year or so. Bullish, as we say in the Crypto world!

Funny thing is Staples Center went corporate at the beginning so there was no backlash because nobody knew of its non corporate branding.

Well..I cited Wrigley and I'm pretty sure Wrigley Field is named after the gum. Talk about going cooperate long before it became a thing.

"Cooperate" FU Micosoft Edge and your auto-dumb-spell check making me look stupid.

The Crypt it is then. Staples probably can't afford the naming rights anymore since they're on the brink of bankruptcy.

I wonder if the sponsorship is going to pay in dollars or crypto.

I was looking at the Staples sponsorship agreement and they were paying $116 million over 20 years. The Crypto.com naming rights is paying $700 million over 20 years....I know inflation is a thing but that is a massive increase in revenue which they will be able to use to pay for the upcoming renovations.

That could be your money Jeanie!!! The lakers probably got nothing meaningful in this deal despite being the main attraction.
Don’t feel bad for the clippers , they gave their new arena and naming rights money

Thats the problem with them not being billionaires....they can't really realize their gains unless they sell the Lakers or take on another partner which reduces their share of the team.

Lakers and LA Kings are partners in this deal.

They could take a loan like the warriors owner. Lakers debt ratio is under 1%

Read the fine print “ This agreement also makes Crypto.com an official cryptocurrency platform partner of the Los Angeles Lakers and the LA Kings.”
