Try explaining what there is to celebrate to a Native American.
Heck I’m AA. And I still don’t see what we’re celebrating?
I’d be surprised if anybody in the Western Hemisphere south of us has their own similar holiday. And for good reason.
Are we celebrating the deals with Native people we double crossed them on ? The smallpox blankets? The death marches? The pillaging of the land?
People have finally understood Columbus isn’t someone to celebrate. Maybe eventually people will feel similarly about Thanksgiving.
Of course I like the food though. But leaving all the history aside, the company you have with you largely affects if it’s a good or bad experience. |
whats your opinion on the removal of controversial statues? they are part of history and when erected (Lol) they clearly had significance to the area. |
Go to Germany and count how many Hitler statues they have standing . . . you know, reflecting the historical significance of the area. |
this is silly. This would equate to a statue of the grand dragon. cant we find something in everyone's background? Obviously, some are more extreme than others but is every public statue of someone with zero demons. |
Now who's being silly? Hitler wasn't just some random guy running a his local white power group. He was the political leader of the country and head of it's armed forces—same as the generals of the Confederacy that are coming down. That's a nonsensical comparison.
As for the comment that everyone has something in their background, that's just the ridiculous. We aren't talking about people who had some dark moment in their past. We are talking about military leaders who attempted to divide the country through civil war. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

heres a straw man argument, but what the heck.
Malcolm X Blvd. should it stay or should it go. You could argue that the gentrification of harlem could result in it being removed. Would that offend anyone? |

Interesting you feel that way. Rubin made the same point you've been making arguing with DMR. And I don't think very highly of MW. But even she was able to destroy the argument you and Rubin are making. With ease.

MW is fine, Rubin just doesn't deserve anyone's time TBH. Also, these are opinions and I'm sure MW's argument is better than mine. It's just how I feel. This has been a painfully ugly process to get where we are as a nation but ugly is part of the deal.
I think fixing what we are now is far more important than anything. I know our issues stemming from the past are still haunting us today, but until we can grasp and fix them, nothing will matter. the American people today can claim reparations are part of a bigger solution yet those same people still vote against real solutions. |

What if I peed in your face. And when you got up and was ready to respond. Someone stopped you. Made you look at a screen. And you read a post that said "I think fixing what we are now is far more important than anything".
Then throw that hypothetical away. And instead. Pretend I enslaved you. For your whole life. Then pretend my dad enslaved your parents. For their whole life. My parents. My parent's parents. Same thing. Big picture. Millions of people. Year after year.
Then pretend your children lived through Jim Crow, and then their children couldn't buy property due to redlining. And their children lacked generational wealth, because most of it in our society is passed on via property.
How would you think of "I think fixing what we are now is far more important"?
I'm genuinely asking. I want to know if you lack empathy or if you just lack perspective. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

As long as racists continue to takeaway voting rights, or at least fight to, nothing will matter. The most important thing outside of COVID on Biden’s watch is to protect the voting rights of everyone. |

This isn't really controversial, but it irks me that turnips are available year round in grocery stores and never ever run out. Turnips are a horrible, vile, sour little bastard and every grocery store in America is somehow forever up to their (bleep) in them.
Who eats all these turnips? How is there this much demand for turnips in contemporary America? I don't think I've ever seen a turnip dish on a menu of any restaurant I've eaten at in my entire life, and yet somehow there are always a big pile of turnips in every grocery store I have ever visited. What kind of turnip scam is going on in this country?!
I wait all year every year for seasonal kohlrabi. All of the upside of turnips without tasting like sweat wrung from a basketball player's underwear. Why can't I get the superior kohlrabi year round?
The turnip thing feels like a true conspiracy to me. Epstein killed himself, but the turnip agenda killed JFK, Jr. Horrid root. Just terrible. _________________ Under New Management |

I think turnip greens sell like hotcakes. I mix, turnip, mustard, spinach, and collard greens. Boil them with a ham shank and a sliced turnip root. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Greens are a different beast than the root, though. And I rarely see turnips with greens at my local grocery store.
But I am we willing to admit as someone who doesn't eat pork, beef, or chicken, the bitterness of turnips might be softened nicely by a fatty meat. That's the only way I could see the turnip root being edible. _________________ Under New Management |

I have 3 well thought out rebuttals.
1) “ This is ‘Merica”
2) “But gun rights are a part of our culture”
3) “If you don’t like it you can git out! You socialist, communist, hippy, anti-fa member. If you want my gun you have to pry it from me. I need my gun for when Obama comes to try and take my guns!” _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

I have no illusions about meaningful gun reform happening in the next 50 years (at least). Sandy Hook cemented America's bargain with Moloch. _________________ Under New Management |

I know. Many stores separate the greens from the root. You can buy the turnip alone. I slice them and put them into a greens mix for flavor. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
