there is no proof that omicron was created inside the body of an advanced HIV patient.

this medical paper talks about how researchers followed an advanced HIV patient with severely compromised immune system. because the severely weakened immune system was unable to rid itself completely of covid19 over a number of months, scientists watched over time how mutations and variants were evolving in this person. mutations were showing up over time that scientist predicted could help covid19 virus fight vaccine-induced antibodies and infection-induced antibodies.

to fight covid, it does appear that it is really important to get advanced hiv drugs to 3rd world

Wait… You’re telling me COVID can potentially mutate in HIV patients? So the world would need to eliminate HIV to stop mutations?… This sounds like something out of a Resident Evil game.

i know omicron sounds scary, but there should be some good news that don't get lost in this
-Beta variant which was caused a huge spike in South Africa didn't spread around the world( probably due to the location of South Africa being far and only Air Travel which has strict restrictions), so blocking travel from SA might work better compare to other areas of the world.
-South Africa only has vaccination rate of 24% and 90% of the people being hospitalized are unvaccinated as of December 1st.

-R number not as scary as first thought.

-Spanish Flu's second year was the worst, and it ended after 3 years.

this is going to be a tough winter, so get vaccinated and wear a mask, the worst should be behind us soon.

https://twitter.com/rid1tweets/status/1466828284445040645
remember in southern hemisphere, summer / winter are flipped with us
here is what is frightening about omicron.
the black omicron curve is shooting almost vertically - the 7 day rolling average number of cases in south africa
much more steep than the delta curve shown in comparison, or the other variants
if it is as deadly as delta, i think we are in trouble

Yeah, SA is rough, but in a sense, it’s better to have a variant in SA compare to India. We will see how this things play out. Just got my booster last week

delta got all over the world from india
quarantine helps delay things.
but they think patient zero happened some time between august and october.
and where is south africa now.
yes their vaccination rate is low, but the line is near vertical now.
and we are not quarantining people returning from south africa.
us residents can return despite travel ban with zero quarantine requirement.
same in europe.

yes, this is like some nightmare
but the paper documents an actual advanced hiv patient.
not only one mutant, but continue to mutate over many months
weak immune system provides an ideal 'training' environment for covid to evolve against antibodies
it is like some witches' brew

i think that is why some scientists think omicron evolved in an immunosuppressed indidvidual.
there are so many mutations that one wonders how it happened.

we definitely want to consider sending some pfizer/merck pills to south africa and africa in general for advanced hiv cases.
not just over there, but anywhere in the world
no one is safe unless everyone is safe
it does risk brewing a variant that can evade pfizer/merck pills though.
feels a lot like antibiotic resistant bacteria

some potentially good news out of south africa despite exponential growth in cases - https://www.samrc.ac.za/news/tshwane-district-omicron-variant-patient-profile-early-features

my non-expert interpretation of this article:
1. expontential growth - likely more contagious than delta
2. it is putting people in hospitals in scary numbers but cases tend to be less serious.
3. the question is whether moderate cases (70%) stay that way or worsen or get better. will need to wait to see what happens in a week or 2. chances are moderate cases will recover if it does not worsen as immune system responds.

"Tshwane has been the global epicentre of the Omicron Outbreak and the Gauteng Province Fourth Wave with the weekly number of cases rising exponentially over several weeks, reaching just over 8569 cases in Epi Week 47 (21 November -November 27 and 41 921 by 3 December before the end of Epi Week 48 (28 November to 4 December). The exponential rise in cases has continued with 9929 new cases reported in Tshwane in the last 5 days from 29 November to 3 December 2021"

"Though the NICD has confirmed that almost all cases of SARS-C0V-2 in Tshwane are due to the new variant, we have not been able to establish that in every instance the variant is Omicron as the PCR machine in use at the SBAH laboratory does not screen for the S-gene. A reasonable assumption is being made that the cases described here represent infection with the new variant."

"A snapshot of 42 patients in the ward on 2 December 2021 reveals that 29 (70%) are not oxygen dependent. These patients are saturating well on room air and do not present with any respiratory symptoms. These are the patients that we would call ‘incidental COVID admissions’, having had another medical or surgical reason for admission. Thirteen (13) patients are dependent on supplemental oxygen of which nine (21%) have a diagnosis of COVID-19 pneumonia based on a combination of symptoms, clinical signs, CXR and inflammatory markers. All are being prescribed steroids as the mainstay of therapy. The remaining 4 patients are on oxygen for other medical reasons (2 previously on home oxygen, 1 in heart failure and 1 with a confirmed diagnosis of Pneumocystis Pneumonia)."

"This is a picture that has not been seen in previous waves. In the beginning of all three previous waves and throughout the course of these waves, there has always only been a sprinkling of patients on room air in the COVID ward and these patients have usually been in the recovery phase waiting for the resolution of a co-morbidity prior to discharge. The COVID ward was recognizable by the majority of patients being on some form of oxygen supplementation with the incessant sound of high flow nasal oxygen machines, or beeping ventilator alarms."

if you are afraid of mrna vaccines, this could be the one for you.
protein vaccine technology that has been used for flu and other diseases

not yet approved for usa
but approved by WHO, eu, and a few asian countries
they will be the guinea pigs for this new vaccine
my personal guess is this will be approved and available by april
a month or so late for my booster
personally i may wait because omicron wave may well be over by then

basically no testing unless symptomatic
