We have him for two years? Nobody can steal him this offseason?

I think that is correct. Hoopshype has him at $1.56m next season and no player option.

Thank you.
Monk thread is depressing looking at our chances to keep him here next year..

I’m guessing when Vogel sees this on tape, he will increase Reaves minutes. That’s like 2 defenders worth of coverage with high IQ reads.

Vogel has to be careful with Reaves minutes, he isn’t built for contact.

Here is a piece I just found to share about Malik and Austin - many probably already know but this is my first time reading this
https://i.redd.it/s3gkjsqx4pa81.jpg

Malik, as a 9th grader, had to go against Austin and his older brother Spencer in the Boys Class 2A State Championship game
https://www.ocregister.com/2021/10/30/lakers-malik-monk-austin-reaves-bond-over-small-town-arkansas-roots/
Quote:
There’s a sense of pride involved here, so Malik Monk wants it spelled out clearly: It wasn’t Austin Reaves who beat him in the 2013 Arkansas 2A state championship final.

It was Spencer Reaves, his older brother, doing the bulk of the work. 35-7

“We were both ninth graders then,” Monk said of Austin, who was sitting in earshot after a Lakers practice as he offered his side of the past to a reporter. “But he didn’t contribute for sure. I want that spelled out.”

It’s a petty distinction, but even Reaves has to agree: While it was a good day for Cedar Ridge High, ending East Poinsett County’s run of three straight championships, he had very little to do with it.

“I think he scored 25 points in that game; I scored, like, three.” Reaves laughed. “But it’s always good to win the game. That’s the main goal, anyway.”

Reaves got that Mamba mentality. I wonder how he would be, given the green light? How much more would that help our team?

This was a really good drive

The Lakers likely have a good idea of where his thoughts are in terms of that. I'd imagine it's going to be hard to get him to return if he continues playing like this. He'd need to sign for less money and that is less likely if the Lakers continue to struggle.

They may feel as a result of that, that his best use might be as trade filler to sweeten the pot.

I think Reaves should be given the opportunity to attack with the ball in his hands like what THT is getting. I think he is a better finisher than THT.

Ja Morant isn't as strong as THT.

We compare reaves to ja now? Yes, reaves will be able to attack if he has the speed /hops like ja, or is as strong as THT

Does this means we can go over our cap to match the offer.. I am guessing they allow that.

He has underrated strength, if you look all of his attacks, he finishes off contacts, he loves shooting through contacts. You can also see it in his college highlights.

You’re correct again!

We have a team option on Reaves next season and once that expires, he’ll be an early bird RFA player for us in the summer of 2023 (no different than THT was for us that’s past summer). If projections remain as is (without COVID cap correction) then as an early bird player we can offer him up to 12-13m in yr1 of a new deal that summer and we’ll be able use the Arenas provision to match any other team’s offer (even if there is an outside chance Reaves becomes a poison pill deal).

Long story short, it will be up to us (and I guess the tax) if we choose to let him go or not. We’ll be in complete control of whether he remains here or goes elsewhere.

We need to trade Reaves to like the Spurs. He doesn't deserve to be undervalued like this. He needs to go to another organization where he can actually flourish. This organization, with this coach and players, it's holding him back. A player like Reaves doesn't deserve that.
