Stanley Johnson is a good signing, as far as defense is concerned... but he is a total liability on offense.

I can't believe how he can spend years in the NBA and not develop offensive skills... wasted opportunities

Put him with 4 scorers, Monk-Nunn-Bron-AD, Westbrook would still get minutes

Am I the only one who feels that, ideally, Johnson would be better off playing the 3 more often than the 4/5?

He's not tall enough to bother 4s and 5s, and we need a real 3 out there, not 2s like Monk or THT who masquerade as 3s.

Of course we should play Johnson sometimes at the 4, but should he also get a good chunk of minutes at the 3?

Yeah you're not the only one, Hopefully he can slide to the 3 once AD comes back, I cringed everytime he was guarding JJJ last game, it was barbecue chicken.

But...
Okay so that's the last 10 day they can sign him to before having to commit for the rest of the season.

Interesting. Seems like they might want to keep him for the long haul. Guessing he'll even see g-league time until his offense is more refined. Sad thing is he'll be mentioned in trade talks once he gets under contract. Young players just cannot win as long as Lakers are "contending".

No one on the Lakers is tall enough. Stanley is the 4th tallest Laker and that says more about why the team is bad than anything.

I complained about his small size in this thread on the day we signed him, and have yet to see a reason to change my mind.

why is Stanley seeing less playing time when his defense was so good while starting. i like Ariza providing some timely 3s off the bench, but he is too small to play defense.

Can we re-sign him if WB opts out? Would be nice to have some under 30 players for once. That's why I want young players because they have the energy and stamina to play defense. Old farts can't keep up defensive intensity for long while having to contribute on offense.

We don’t win the game tonight without Stanley’s effort. What a great performance by him.

Front office, lock this man up. He deserves a contract already.

He is on vet min, it has nothing to do with any contracts.

Can we please just re-sign this guy for the rest of the season? Enough of these 10 days, he's earned more from us.

They probably do this for tax savings, the later he signs, the less tax we pay.just shows you how our ownership do things nowadays

Can we please change this thread to a stand alone Stanley thread?

His impact on the team deserves more respect lol

You're definitely right about that. Which is why we need to acquire a young, 2-way player who can comfortably play the 4. Someone who is ideally 6-9 or 6-10.

I think his size is fine for the 3. I mean, he does weigh 240 and he plays much bigger than a SG.

You can tell he works hard. It just seems like he needed the right circumstances. He's a rotation player if not a starter if his offense continues to improve. Probably the only player that reminds me of Ron Artest. He's just built like that.

My understanding of the Stanley Johnson signing is..

He is on his 3rd and last 10 day contract.

After that the Lakers will have to release him or sign him.

He can be signed to the 15th and final spot the Lakers have and if the Lakers do that, that will not be able to get anyone else later that gets a buyout.

I say the Lakers sign him and don't worry about a future buyout.

Not ideal, but after watching him more I'm hoping it could work out. He is solidly built and puts out a very good effort, both of which can go a long way.

I really hope we give him one of this 1+1 deals where the second year is a club option with a really small guarantee.

If he can parlay his play here into a decent contract I don’t see any way he would do that.
