@mad: my previous projections were based on the 116m sann on art cap projection (I gotta stop doing that haha). See below for what I believe are the correct projections based on a projected 119m salary cap and yr1 base salary amounts.

If we sign Stanley with a 2 yr vet min rest of season deal:
Year 1: 970k
Year 2: 2.4m

If signed with remaining mMLE on a 3yr deal:
Year 1: 517k
Year 2: 1.6m
Year 3: 1.9m

So we ended up bypassing our remaining mMLE 3yr route and ending up going with the 2yr vet min route (ie the 1st option above).

Speaking of option, it will be a team option on the 2nd year like Reaves’s deal. Deal will officially kick in on Friday the 28th with his current & final 10-day deal expiring on Thurs the 27th.

Woj: The Lakers intend to sign F Stanley Johnson to a two-year deal, including a team option for 2022-2023, sources tell ESPN. Deal expected to be signed on Thursday.

Lakers had been discussing some two-for-one trades along the roster margins, but ultimately landed on keeping Johnson in 15th spot, especially because of his willingness to agree on a team option for year, per sources. That keeps some deal-making flexibility for LA this summer.

HALLELUJAH!

Congrats to the young man!

Now can we please sign ANOTHER defensive forward to help the team out so we aren't one injury or 4 fouls away from playing Ariza and THT at heavy minutes at PF??? PLEASE???

An undrafted Rookie and a G league guy are 2 of our main rotation pieces, what a season!

Should be enough with 3 max, time to see what the healthy trio can do

His defensive toughness and versatility, as well as his ability to play in small ball lineups, actually gives me Markieff vibes. A more athletic version, though

Great news that he's with us for the long haul

I mean, that's largely due to DJ/Baze/Ariza/Ellington etc, that's not on Stanley/Reaves

When you find a lil gold nugget in the sh1t pile you don't throw it away.

Glad we signed him instead of letting him walk like Damian Jones.

Shams Charania
@ShamsCharania
Forward Stanley Johnson has agreed to a new two-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Johnson’s final 10-day contract expires Wednesday, but his contagious defense, energy and play earn him a guaranteed rest of the year.

Unfortunately that is true, Johnson and Reaves should be bench players that give our starters a rest. When you have to give major minutes to them you are winning a lot of games. At least they respond when called on.

I really really like that it's a 2 year deal. Finally Rob may be seeing the need to re-build the role player core around AD/Bron. It's not just about this year. Next year, too. Worse case with this contract he's a non-guaranteed throw in a trade in offseason (and there will be a TON of Westbrook trade chatter in the summer, even if nothing comes out of it).

Best case? You've got yourself a 15-20 min athletic bull who can body up bigger wings and do some perimeter assignments on smalls.

Next up needs to be Monk. Need to find a way to keep him on a 2 year deal (1+1) even if it's the MMLE. They know the system, and they'll be back next year ahead of the curve.

Outstanding move by the Lakers. They badly needed a young, defensive-minded 3/small ball 4, and they got him now.

Not only is he a good defender, but could it be that he's starting to become a passable or decent 3-point shooter? His 3 point shooting % is now up to 34.4 on the season.

In fact in his last seven games he's shooting 50 percent from downtown according to basketball reference (https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/johnsst04/gamelog/2022#379-385-sum:pgl_basic)

Hopefully he can hit some open shots.

Love his defense and hustle.

He’s just a bit useless offensively if we are not playing with pace.

Small sample size, but still he can make it, so teams will not let him just take the 3. His shots looks good compare to THT. He's even shooting better than Ariza and Reaves.
