Vogel's firing has been the subject of media speculation since January. This wanting to paint everything negative that happens with a Klutch brush is just childish.
It’s easier to blame the Klutch boogeyman than to recognize that the people who are running your favorite team have flaws.
It was such a poor miscalculation in timing that it could only be one dude…
It had to be the guy that read the books wrong and thought we was still on the 2020/21 salary cap. I mean why else pay Nunn 5m of the tpMLE so that 890k remained (ie about the 2020/21 rookie min amount). Thing is, it’s the 2021/22 season and the rookie min went up to 925k…oops!
Sorry for the book-keeping error, but no 3yr deal for you, Austin.
As a parting gift, Jeanie should get him a Rollie. You know what time it is…the eScapeGoat gotta go. _________________ Not familiar with the salary cap/CBA rules & how it impacts our Lakers?

Did Klutch have a lot of influence on Lebron's previous 4 championships as well? I want to take the good with the bad. Everyone and their moms knew Vogel was gone sooner or later so the timing of the official announcement shouldn't surprise anyone. Leak or no leak is inconsequential.

agree. There were rumors he may be gone at all star break.
as much as I despise this FO I still think Woj was just passing along very easy to guess speculation as BREAKING NEWS. Everyone knew Vogel was getting fired and that typically happens the day after the last game of the season. Plus Woj definitely has something against the Lakers so this is a win-win for him... keep up his cred as the leading BREAKING NEWS reporter of the NBA plus make the Lakers look bad at the same time. _________________ (bleep) Kawhi
Stop being conspiracy theory nutjobs. Vogel had been a dead man walking for the better part of the last few months. Missing the playoffs made it a foregone conclusion. _________________

This is what I think occurred too as well. Pelinka's reaction to that report was so strong that it makes me think it was a hit job. If Woj had already gotten wind of it through the grapevine, it was just a matter of time until he detonated it. Plus by dropping it after the game, he could get back at the Lakers for leaking through Shams & Chris Haynes.

I had just assumed that it was leaked by Rich Paul. The bigger question is why he knew about it in advance.
My assumption as well. Though I wouldn't be totally surprised if Rambis was using the info to try to build an inroad with Woj.

it just shows how dysfunctional the FO is.
My conclusion as well.
I mean, it was reported earlier in the year that our management was bandying around their discussions on displacing Vogel so openly, that everyone knew. That this is how it ended is just our front office staying consistent. _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night.
Too many people knew. Magic, Phil, Kurt, Linda, Jeanie, Klutch.... all of them are chatty Patty's. The only person that I suspect didn't say some thing is Rob. That's another reason I liked Jim and Mitch collaboration or when Jerry was running things. Those things were really in house, and they were tight lipped. You don't know what is going on. Lakers now is like a reality show. Lakers have always been in the media, but it was usually made up reports for clicks. Now, The Lakers are the gossip up mill; which is indicative of their leader: Jeanie.

Pelinka's reaction was no doubt informed by how the media reacted to what they all likely guessed was the FO's handling of the firing, so Pelinka had to act like it was unsubstantiated. Pretty much every ESPN talking-head--i.e. Woj's coworkers--guessed it came from the Laker FO. Probably fair to say they knew the office building of the source.
Yeah, Woj could have just guessed Vogel was gone...why did he wait until the second the last game ended to say it then? If he's obsessed with beating people to a scoop, why not post that 2 or 3 games beforehand when the Lakers are eliminated from play-in possibility? Did something happen in that overtime victory to cement it in Woj's mind?
I invite everyone again to read the last line in that Woj tweet. It is written like a press released issued by a front office. Is it that crazy to think our front office, as tone deaf and dumb as they are, thought that that tweet would be met with a widespread "It was time/it was overdue/Vogel lost the team/etc" media angles, never anticipating the backlash to the way it came out?
When it came out that Kurt Rambis "liked" a porn tweet, he insisted his account was "hacked" (to apparently like a single tweet of an ass) and yet he didn't unfollow the account for several more days. The dude is an idiot, pure and simple, and this whole thing reeks of his lack of self-awareness.
Magic, for example came on First Take a few days earlier and said "We all know Frank is getting fired but it's not all his fault". Who does Magic always talk to? Jeanie, his "sister".
Pelinka obviously knew.
Rambis knew, Rambii.
Jeanie.
Klutch would know, and Klutch was for sure consulted. There's no way I believe they would make a decision like changing coaches without consulting LBJ. To me, you're already seeing Nurse/Marc Jackson's name being thrown out there.
As for the leak, I don't know. My money would be on Magic, but it could be Klutch. Think about this. When a source puts out info, they want to be a) presented well with the info and b) make connect with the reporter.
Rambis, Jeanie, Pelinka all get shredded by ESPN. So I don't think they are the ones that connect with them. This is just speculation, but my guess is Magic or Klutch expose stuff on the Lakers, as they tend to get the best narrative by ESPN or least amount of criticism.

This is 100% how I felt as well. Even with Mitch and Jim I'm pretty sure leaks were primarily from Jeannie's camp.

ESPN is not a collective whole with leaks. They all compete with each other for that info. Woj got the leak and gave it a positive spin, how everyone else responds is up to them. ESPN would not tell everyone to be nice to the Lakers for the leak they got.
I've said this ad nauseum on the thread, but you can often decode the source in the way it's written. It's sourced by players/agents, it'll talk about "frustration in the locker room." This one doesn't voice Vogel's shortcomings because the source knew the real problem: the roster construction. So it focuses on "the future," like an FO would.
Again, the timing is everything. Magic already said on ESPN Vogel was gone, so this is hardly a well-timed leak. He didn't need to "leak" it, he already said it. Klutch could have leaked it after Lebron was shut down. It was timed like a press release. I gaurantee you the person who leaked it worked in the front office and thought it would make the Lakers look no-nonsense and like they're wasting zero time.

Jeanie got shredded by ESPN? Where? I don't watch much but I had the sense that all media has over the years been relatively quiet on how she runs the org, and when they do mention her, it's been either positive or kid gloves because she's such a quality person.

Cut it out…leave it to half-life to leave half the story out. Just joshin ya bro.
It couldn’t be Magic cause then a local beat writer or Stephen A woulda broke the story. Why would Magic spill the tea to the dude that leaked the story of how he was lazy & an absentee exec?
Now anyone wanna take a stab at who leaked that Earv was out the office so damn much to Woj? Anyways, get back to me when y’all figure it out.
Anyways, you wanna know how Magic “guessed” correctly that Vogs was going to get fired? Cause that MFer leaked during the season, remember?
Bill Oram: Frank Vogel, asked by @Dave McMenamin about feedback on his job performance: “I meet with the front office and talk about the previous night’s performance every game this year. Been doing that for three years.”
Then came the public backlash of how the FO was taking it out on Vogel for the absolute clusterF of a constructed roster, to which the FO pivoted and suddenly said they greenlit a Vogs doing whatever he wanted to do with rotations including benching Russ.
Quote:
Jan 20:
Long before Russell Westbrook was benched down the stretch of Wednesday’s 111-104 loss to the Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Lakers coach Frank Vogel was given assurances that the organization would support him in taking a hard line while coaching the star, sources told ESPN.
Over the past week and a half, Lakers management has told the coaching staff to coach Westbrook as the coaches see fit, even if that means pulling him from a game, as Vogel did for the final 3 minutes, 52 seconds of the fourth quarter against Indiana, sources told ESPN.
One source close to the situation described the message from management to the staff as, “You got to do what you got to do.”
Anyways I know why the eScape fans want to make sure Magic gets pinned for this, but nope it was another ass you need to pin this tale to. Sorry! _________________ Not familiar with the salary cap/CBA rules & how it impacts our Lakers?
