Could the Lakers have a re-dux with the Ball family?

The Lakers as currently constructed will likely have a $20-30M in cap space for summer 2024 ... if LBJ and AD both bounce we could have $70-100M to spend.

Lonzo just so happens to be an FA that summer if he opts out of his final year. The Lakers could be in a good spot to bring him back with the grand plan of adding his brother the following summer.

The Lakers could plan their roster to have $30M+ in cap space to sign LaMelo when his rookie deal is done. Assuming he doesn't sign a max extension before that.

Normally you would think any young star player would sign that max extension before their rookie deal is up BUT I think Melo w/the guidance of Lavar and the Lakers having Lonzo would maybe decline that. We should also hope he doesn't make an All NBA Team, win MVP etc between now and then so he doesn't get fall into the DRose Rule.

Age wise Melo would be barely 24 and Lonzo will be 28

Imagine a backcourt of the Ball Bros ... Lavar can really predict the future

Hard pass on Lonzo, he's not that consistent and always injured.

No way LaMelo leaves. He will get a big fat extension.

No one has ever turned down a max extension coming off their rookie deal. I wouldn't expect Lamelo to be the first.

Simple no. Melo will sign max. Lonzo won’t be back because of salary demands mixed with injury concerns

If only Zo could stay healthy. I would have penciled him in as an all-star one day, but he's had chronic knee problems since he's been in the league, and it doesn't appear to be slowing down. Same thing with DLo. If you go back 10-15 years ago, these injuries weren't common in 19-20 year olds.

I have always loved Lonzo but it's hard to deny at this point that he is injury prone. I wouldn't give him a big contract on that basis.

Even if Zo stayed healthy he would likely never be an All-Star. In five years in the NBA he has never averaged more than 14.6 points a game or shot more than 42.3 percent from the field. He has never even come close to putting up All-Star numbers.

Let's face it: Zo was massively overhyped when he came into the league. He's definitely a nice player to have, but he's more of a complementary piece than a legit star.

Lmao. How about we just draft our own talent instead of trading them away for the wrong assets?

They can always sign LiAngelo to a max contract after Brick's contract is done.

Zo was easily the worst selection out of all our no 2 picks, especially when compared to who was drafted after him.

Tatum, Fox, Donovan Mitchell, Bam Adebayo, Jarrett Allen. What a joke of a #2 pick. Is he officially a bust?

Then you when you take into account zo's injury history, I'd have a hard time putting over players like Anunoby, Collins, Markkanen, Kennard or even Brooks.

Heck, I might put Kuz over him now given his season at WSH.

So semi-bust or outright bust?

Semi-bust.

Even with his injury concerns, he's still a productive player.

He just shouldn't have been a top 5 pick.

With that said, he would have been an outright bust if he stayed with the lakers.

No way does he fix his shot without fred vinson's help.

He isn’t a bust, he is a good NBA player when he can stay healthy.

He is more than just “good”. Elite 3pt shooting %s and elite D and playmaking. In fact he does a lot of things most nba players don’t anymore. He is severely valuable..the only issue are the injury concerns but Chicago got him at a discount of 20million for a reason. He is a max player in todays NBA.

DeAron Fox is the complete opposite. Pads his stats and is a total cancer. And Jarret Allen has had 1 good season of which he was hurt for quite a big portion of it. Some of you make ridiculous comparisons.

Lonzo is a piece so the Lakers can get Melo.

Melo is the future of the league, playing with Lonzo would be why he doesn't sign the max extension.

Hell I would give a 2 way deal to Gelo this summer to get the ball rolling.
