I don't want Doc at all but if it has to be sometime then let it be now for the short term 2 years max while we likely aren't winning any rings or getting close with this version of the Lakers relative to the West contenders. The failure should clarify some things to the front office and owner. Get it out of your startstruck system. By the time Lebron is gone and the rebuild is finally on, Doc should be gone too. Clean slate for a player developing young coach.
“Our game plan for the Jazz isn’t going to work against the Suns. This isn’t Gobert or Whiteside. These guys can put the ball in the basket.”
And we want to trade for this guy
The sad thing is this is exactly how teams viewed us with DeAndre/Dwight starting AND Westbrook. We had TWO guys who were non-threats unless wide open inside. And then there were defensive issues. Yet Rambis and Pelinka were on the coaches .... Just ridiculous.
At least Gobert is an elite defender. We had elite nothing with our starting 5 and starting 1 and we were being told by Rambis/Pelinka that this is a championship level team.
It was a long shot anyways…we had to give up a pick to get him & we probably were going to pay him far less than what Toronto ownership was giving him…plus we would expect him to take on dual roles being that we’re cheap & our med staff needs all the help it can get and his last name being what it is. I mean that’s what we’re expecting from all our klutch klients…take LeGM, for example #DealUp&Dribble
As for other candidates…
Quote:
The Charlotte Hornets are beginning to interview candidates for the franchise's head-coaching opening, including the possibility of a reunion for general manager Mitch Kupchak with ex-Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni, sources told ESPN.
D'Antoni has been identified as a serious candidate early in the process, especially because of the possibility of pairing him with young point guard LaMelo Ball, sources said.
D'Antoni will meet with the Hornets along with several current assistant coaches whom Charlotte requested permission to speak to, including Golden State's Kenny Atkinson, Milwaukee's Darvin Ham and Dallas' Sean Sweeney, sources said. All three of those assistants are currently coaching in the playoffs.
Atkinson, 54, inherited a downtrodden Nets team and led it to the Eastern Conference playoffs in his third season in 2018-2019. He built a strong reputation in player development as both an assistant and head coach.
Ham has been a part of Mike Budenholzer's staffs with Milwaukee and Atlanta and been in serious consideration for several head-coaching jobs in recent years, including his current involvement with the Lakers' opening.
Sweeney is considered the architect of the Mavericks' surprising defense this season, and he worked with head coach Jason Kidd with both the Nets and Bucks. This is his first interview for a head-coaching job.

Atkinson or D'Antoni would be solid choices for us.
However if not D'Antoni, I'd prefer Nick Nurse, Kenny Atkinson, Ettoire Messina, Quin Snyder, Darwin Ham in that order.
But anyway, D'Antoni with Lamelo and Bridges? In THIS era of basketball? Yeah that's essentially a perfect fit. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

If we're competing with teams like the Hornets for these coaches, man, I'd be hard-pressed to come up with a reason on their end for taking the Lakers' job over a promising young core.
I'd love Atkinson, though - completely underrated job with the Nets to guide them back to relevancy after an incredibly tough spot with the picks they traded to Boston, only to be (unfairly) stabbed in the back by KD/Kyrie after that first season where KD didn't even play. And I know he's lauded for his player development...just take a look at some of the young players for the Nets in those pre-KD/Kyrie years, the Clippers last year when he was with them, and now the Warriors. He might even be my personal favorite for the job, but who are we kidding? It's not a sexy enough name for the FO/Klutch, and he probably doesn't survive Lebron/AD. But if you like Nick Nurse, I feel like Atkinson would be a candidate along those same lines who's actually available.

You want to search primarily the assistant before the head coach?
He's a stubborn system-coach trying to impose his system, no matter if there's a roster for it
Much worse, he's running players to the ground. With our aged and fragile stars, that would be a total desaster.
Antoni=worst case
Fizdale, Rambis, Jackson= worst case in terms of winning.
At least Dantoni has a successful system that's served as the basis for modern basketball.
Jackson brings nothing to the table except religious sermons and pitting the team against one another.
The last thing we need is Jackson inviting AD to church and pouring holy water on his injuries.
There's no modern system winning over talent
we won our last title with "dinosaurs" and without great shooters. Talent and defense were our set cards
Antoni can get the best out oft young teams that aren't very talented. A great coach doesn't press the roster in a system, he'll adjust the system for the available players.
If Antoni will coach us again, the holy water will be the last hope for ADs legs, be sure _________________ White guy to white guy alley oop

I agree with everything you said. However, I would like to point out that Jackson is indisputably a great coach but he never ever changed the system (triangle) for the available players. So i think there's a nuance to what you said above:
The main players on this team are unlikely to change, so it's not much use bringing in a coach that drives a trademark system (e.g. D'Antoni, Jackson) and expect the players to adjust. The Lakers will get better results with a coach that will fit a system to the existing players. (Perhaps you meant to say the same, in which case thumbs up!).

Our defense when we won the championship was also the result of a “system” in addition to talent. There’s a reason Vogel was considered a “defensive” coach.
A great coach adjusts to players. There are no great coaches available to for the lakers to sign because they’re either already on other teams or retired from basketball.
The worst coaches wont provide anything other than stand there and speak nonsense. Dantoni at least has an offensive system to rely on if he has trouble.
If you get someone like Jackson, AD’s legs won’t be the only thing holy water is used on for hope.
This is not news. Phil is very close with Rambis and is friendly with Jeanie too. You think he’s just now getting involved? _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel
^^^ exactly. Phil has been involved for a while and I'd imagine that once Magic stepped down, Phil really emerged as Jeanie's basketball mind.
Anyway, Nurse ain't happening which is the dream hire. Snyder seems like he might be out of Utah but with him getting surgery, perhaps that might delay any sort of decision in Utah and what they do. Other than Ham, nobody else excites me. But there is something about Ham that reminds me of Monty Williams.. perhaps it's the energy and communication style but he seems very well loved and respected by his teams.
I like his intellect, confidence, team minded, levity, and experience. That press cofenernce in 2nd link is a good watch. If they interview him and love him, I hope they move quick and not wait for Snyder and lose Ham to Hornets (potentially).

I thought Phil and Jeanie called off their engagement? Why is he still in the picture? _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
